EAST PALESTINE -- Paula J. Patterson, 79, passed away Feb. 23, 2024, at her home following a lengthy illness with family by her side.
Paula was born June 13, 1944, in Sewickley, Pa., daughter of the late James Stanyard III and Jeanne Watts Stanyard.
Paula was a 1962 graduate and valedictorian of East Palestine High School, then she went on to earn her bachelor's in education from Geneva College and a masters in reading from Kent State.
She taught school for five years prior to her teaching at Crestview High School, where she taught High School English for 35 years prior to her retirement in 2009. Paula also volunteered at the Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center.
Paula is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jay Patterson; a son, Barry (Kathy) Patterson of Steubenville; a daughter, Mandee (Steve) Russell of Plain City, Ohio; two brothers, Jim (Laurel) Stanyard and Robert Stanyard, both of East Palestine, as well as two grandchildren, Cameron and Kyle.
Following Paula's wishes, no public services will be observed. A private burial will take place at Darlington Reformed Presbyterian Cemetery at a later date.
Linsley-Royal Funeral Home in East Palestine is in charge of arrangements.
