EAST PALESTINE -- Ernest J. Ross, 78, a lifelong resident of East Palestine, passed away Feb. 20, 2024 at St. Mary's Alzheimer's Center in Columbiana.
Ernie was born Sept. 9, 1945, in East Palestine, son of the late Ernest and Mary Suigo Ross.
He was a 1963 graduate of East Palestine High School, and then went on to earn a master's degree in education from Youngstown State University. He was a lifelong parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in East Palestine. Ernie retired from Southern Local Schools after many years, where he taught social studies and also coached middle school basketball. He enjoyed physical fitness and loved to exercise and write poetry. Ernie also participated and served as commissioner for a fantasy football league for many years, but of all his accomplishments, he was most proud of his family, most especially his nieces and nephews.
Ernie is survived by two sisters, Theresa (Bill) Thompson of East Palestine and Norma Price of East Palestine, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as two sisters, Carol Rauch and Marsha Baker, and special uncle and aunt, Albert and Rose Ross.
Following Ernie's wishes, no public services will be observed. A private burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery in East Palestine.
Ernie's family wishes to thank the staff at St. Mary's Alzheimer's Center for the care they showed to him.
