James Harold Pinnick

1934-2023

James Harold Pinnick, known to his friends as “Nick,” passed away on Nov. 30, 2023 from complications following a stroke.

Born on Dec. 2, 1934, he was the only child of Robert and Alice Pinnick (nee McGee). He graduated from David Anderson High in Lisbon, Ohio in 1952 and was an alumni of Bowling Green State University class of 1956.

On Oct. 26, 1957, now Ensign Pinnick, married Norma Jean Magill. The couple moved to Arlington, Virginia where the first of their three children was born. Nick eventually transferred to the Marine Corps. He served in Vietnam where he received a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in combat. His injuries lead to his retirement from the Marine Corps with the rank of Major.

After military service, Nick pursued multiple careers including Stockbroker at Merrill Lynch and management at Amtrak. The family lived in many parts of the country during Nick’s careers, mainly D.C., Boston and parts of California.

Nick and Norma ended their working lives in the San Francisco Bay area which was their home for 36 years. In 2013, the couple made their final retirement home in La Jolla, California and left behind many fond memories and friends at Casa de Manana.

Nick is survived by his wife of 66 years, Norma Jean; his children: Kathy (Lucky) Morrison, Tony Pinnick, Cindy (Powell) Sanders; and his grandson, Joey Sanders.

His final wish was that anyone who knew him, and found themselves in San Francisco, go to the Top of the Mark and drink a toast to his memory.
