Ruth A. Dillon
1927-2023
AUSTINTOWN — Ruth A. Dillon, 96, of Austintown, formerly of Columbiana, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2023, at Brookdale Austintown.
She was born Feb. 15, 1927, in Kensington, daughter of the late Lawrence and Belle Risden Oyer.
Ruth had worked as a homemaker and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Columbiana. She was well-known for her green thumb and enjoyed raising flowers; Ruth and her husband were charter members of the Columbiana Rose Club and they were a Queen of Show winner in Cincinnati in 1964 for their roses. Ruth was a member of the former Columbiana Chapter #428 Order of the Eastern Star. She spent 20 winters in Naples, Fla., enjoyed western square dancing, worked 40 years at the election poles, and hit a hole-in-one at Whispering Pines Golf course.
Her husband, Arthur Roland Dillon, whom she married May 24, 1952, preceded her in death Nov. 27, 2014.
Ruth is survived by her son, James R. (Janet Peek) Dillon of Lisbon, and a sister, Wanda Grunder of Minerva.
She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Karen Gayle Dillon; two sisters, Lucille Lohman and Leona Oyer; two brothers, Robert and David Oyer; and three half-brothers, Charles Oyer, Louis Oyer and William Chambers.
The family will receive friends Friday, Oct. 20, 2023, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.
Services will be held Friday, Oct. 20, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana, with Pastor Fritz Nelson officiating.
Burial will follow at Columbiana Cemetery, Columbiana.
