King Ard Reed
1932-2023
ELKTON, Ohio — King Ard Reed, 90, passed away peacefully at home Sept. 28, 2023, with his family lovingly by his side.
Born in Brady Lake, Ohio, Nov. 5, 1932, to Harry Willus Reed and Leona Fay Donaldson, King was the third youngest of 11 siblings, all of whom have passed. King and his family survived the Great Depression which taught him the values of hard work and appreciation. These lessons guided him throughout his life, teaching everyone he knew about strength and love. King worked as a railroad engineer and a deckhand, but more importantly, he worked daily to create and maintain a home for his wife and family.
King Ard Reed and Nancy Lee Kell were married Sept. 13, 1952, and experienced a happy 67 years together. The majority of their lives was spent on their tree farm, which is a place of home, adventure and solace for the family he left his legacy to. King planted over 50,000 trees, which he cared for with impassioned devotion.
King and Nancy had five adoring children, Fred Allan Reed, Sherri Ann Reed, Linda Kay Reed, Paula Renae Reed and Anna Margaret Reed. They were blessed with 13 grandchildren, Wendy Lee Reed, Melissa Rae Reynolds, Trisha Jean Reed, Chad Allan Paynter, Angela Rae Paynter, Jess Allan Reed, Isaac Jamie Reynolds, Joshua Allen Weese, Reed Allen Worth, Brandi Nicole Weese, Kyle David Worth, Sidni Lee Worth and Roc Adam Worth. King and Nancy were also graced to have 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. King will also be remembered by his many nieces and nephews.
King’s memorial service was held on the family farm. It was an intimate occasion as he was laid to rest next to his eternal love, Nancy. He will be remembered by many as the example of a true man. A man who gave all that he had to those he loved.
The Dawson Funeral Home has assisted the family. View King’s memorial webpage and express condolences online at www.dawsonfuneralhome.com.
