Rev. Dr. Barry Walker
1939-2023
EAST PALESTINE — Rev. Dr. Barry Walker, a longtime resident of East Palestine, passed away at his home unexpectedly Sept. 5, 2023.
He was born Aug. 22, 1939, in Philadelphia, Pa., son of the late Joseph Walker Jr. and Myra Wilson Walker.
Barry was a proud veteran of the US Army having served in Korea from 1967-1969, after which time he entered into the Army Reserves until he was activated into active duty during the Gulf War, serving as chaplain and rose to the ranks of lieutenant colonel before retiring in 1996 after serving for 31 years. He attended the College of the Ozarks then after graduation, continued his studies at the Dubuque Theological Seminary. Barry worked as a pastor for the First United Presbyterian Church in East Palestine as well as an interim pastor for several local churches throughout the years. He currently served as chaplain for American Legion post #31 in East Palestine and as commander of the VFW Post #4579 in East Palestine.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 27 years, Jane Walker, March 29, 2023.
Barry is survived by a daughter, Beth Stewart of East Palestine; son, Barry (Loraine) Walker of Bridgewater, N.J.; brother-in-law, Glen (Helen) Biddlestone of Westerville, Ohio; four grandchildren, Chelsea (Jordan) Rhodes, Cody (Ciara) Stewart, Michael Stewart and Sarah Walker; five stepgrandchildren, Benji, Avery Jane, Lucy, Asher and Journey; two great-grandchildren, Calvin and Caroline; niece, Michele (Keith) Reyes of Silver Springs, Fla., and a nephew, Jason (Christen) Biddlestone of Galena, Ohio.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Memorial contributions can be made in Rev. Walker’s name to the East Palestine VFW or American Legion, 140 N. Walnut St., East Palestine, OH 44413.
