Dominic Leo Papania
1921-2023
NEW WATERFORD — Dominic Leo Papania, 101, a lifelong resident of New Waterford, passed away at his home August 13, 2023, with family by his side.
Dominic was born October 29, 1921, in New Waterford, son of the late Ralph and Angeline Ferraiouolo Papania.
He was a graduate of New Waterford High School and the Choffin Career Center where he received a certificate for refrigeration. He was a proud veteran of the US Army having served in WWII. Dominic was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was the owner/operator of Papania Farms and Market along with his brothers Frank and Joe. He was a member of the Columbiana County Farm Bureau, Columbiana County Horticultural Society, Ohio Fruit Growers Society, and the International Apple Growers Institute. He previously served as manager of the Salem Fruit Growers Co-Op in Greenford and also was a proud eagle scout and served as scout master. With all his accomplishments throughout his life, Dominic was most happy when working on the farm and in the garden and helping his daughter Susan cook and can.
Dominic is survived by his daughter, Susan (Gary) Stacy of New Waterford; four sons, Ralph Papania of New Waterford, Patrick (Betty) Papania of Tallmadge, Dominic Leo (Roma) Papania of Plain City, Ohio, James (Amy) Papania of Columbiana; eight grandchildren, Mike (Mindy) Papania, Steve (Brandi) Papania, Katie (Ricky) Roberts, Nicole (Jean) Papania, Dayna (Dave) Pitzer, Paige (Mike) Genova, Beau (Layla) Papania, Dave (Kelli) Papania; 11 great-grandchildren, Mason and Madox Papania, James, Angelina and Aida Papania, Theo Papania, Dominic Papania, Raylen and Adrianna Roberts, Vinny and Lena Genova and his caregiver, Sharon Huff who he loved tremendously.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life of 44 years, Sarah Jean Barrett Papania, in 1995, siblings, Frances (Tom) Colella, Ralph (Helen) Papania, Mary (Joe) Mullen, Frank (Lois) Papania, Rosie Papania and Joe (Dorothy) Papania as well as a daughter in law, Linda Papania.
The family will receive friends Thursday, August 17, 2023, from 4:00-7:00 p.m., with the Rosary being said at 3:30 p.m. at the Linsley-Royal Funeral Home in East Palestine. The Rosary will also be said at 10:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home prior to the service. A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Father Christopher Cicero serving as Celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in East Palestine.
