Jared W. Souder

Captain Jared W. Souder, U.S. Army (Retired), 43, died on Wednesday July 19, 2023 in Good Samaritan Hospice House, Wexford, after a fierce battle with brain cancer. He was born Aug. 21, 1979 in Salem, Ohio the son of Bruce Souder and Sara (Talkington) Pitcock.

Jared grew up in Chester, West Virginia and shortly after graduating from Oak Glen High School, enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve. He went on to attend Youngstown State University as a ROTC cadet and accepted a commission into the active Army following graduation in 2005. In 2006, Jared deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom with the 4th Infantry Division and served as an ordinance officer in Baqubah, Iraq. Following an injury sustained during a roadside bombing, Jared was discharged from the Army and returned to Pittsburgh to attend graduate school. Jared earned his masters degree in Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh in 2010. Continuing his calling to serve, Jared led several local organizations focused on improving the lives of veterans by bringing attention to their struggles and finding them help. More recently, he found success as the marketing director for Questeq. Jared will always be remembered for his unyielding desire to live well and make a difference. He will be terribly missed.

Jared is survived by the love of his life and wife of over 18 years, Sheena Lynn (McDowell) Souder; two daughters, Avery and Hannah Souder; his father Bruce Souder (Sharon) and mother Sara Pitcock; a brother and wife, Cliff and Jasmine Souder; sister and brother-in-law, Tera and Buddy Hartge; and his beloved dog Jack.

Friends will be received on Wednesday July 26 from 3 p.m. until time of service starting at 7 p.m. in The Huntsman Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Moon Twp. (1522 Coraopolis Hts. Rd.).

Private interment with Military Honors will take place at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville.
