Theodore Nett Taylor
Theodore Nett Taylor, 94, passed away on June 14, 2023, in Zephyrhills, Florida. Born and raised in East Liverpool, Ohio, he was the son of the late Charles L. Taylor and Irene Wolf Taylor.
He served in the United States Navy during WWII as a signalman on LSM147 in the Central and Southwest Pacific Theaters, attaining the rank of Petty Officer 3rd class.
Following his service, he attended Findlay College in Findlay, Ohio, graduating in 1949. He lettered on the football team. He met his wife, Barbara Jean Adams, while attending college in Findlay. They married at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in 1949.
Ted worked a few years as an insurance agent in Findlay, Columbus, and Toledo, Ohio, before choosing a career in education with the Beaver Local School system in Columbiana County, Ohio. He moved the family to Lisbon, Ohio, in 1958, and began his new career as a science teacher at Beaver Local Junior High. He enrolled and completed a master’s degree in School Administration at Kent State University, became a school administrator, and several years later became the Principal of Beaver Local High School. He remained in this position until retirement.
He was an avid golfer throughout life, served as a golf coach at Beaver Local, and was honored with admission to the Beaver Local Athletic Hall of Fame. He was active in the Knights of Columbus, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the National LSM Association. He enjoyed painting landscape pictures as another of his hobbies.
Ted’s family resided in Lisbon, Ohio from 1958 until 1984 when he retired. Ted and Jean moved to Bradenton, Florida a year later where they enjoyed the fruits of their labors for the next 30 years. They took up residence in Dade City, Florida, in 2015, with their daughter Susan, a retired nurse, and son-in-law Bob, who selflessly dedicated themselves to Ted and Jean’s care as they aged.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, brothers Bob and Skip Taylor; daughters Leeann Taylor and Diane Taylor Exten; son-in-law Doug Sheaffer. His remains will be interred in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Findlay with Jean and their eldest daughter Leeann.
He is survived by his brother Howard Taylor; seven children: Susan (Bob) McCoy, Jim (Lisa) Taylor, Terri (Steve) Crane, Dr. Nancy Taylor (Dr. Perry Crowl), Judy Sheaffer, Jon (Kammy) Taylor, Kristen (Tim) Morris; son-in-law Art Exten, sister-in-law Peggy (Jerry) Bills, 14 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Findlay University or Gulfside Hospice in Zephyrhills, Florida.
