Evelyn L. Smith
1924-2022
In memory of Evelyn Louise Smith who passed December 11, 2022 in Wesley Long Hospital, NC. Evelyn was born on December 23, 1924, daughter of James and Pauline Hirst. Married Albert K. Smith on January 23, 1944 at the Salineville Methodist Church. Albert K. passed in 2001 and her youngest son Alan passed in 1996.
She is survived by her son Albert J. Smith; grandson Michael Smith; granddaughter Michelle Smith; sisters: Janice Allmon and Helen Bondurant; nieces and nephews: Thomas A. Allmon, Lori A. Hogue, Dawn Stackpole, Patti Mickelson, Martha Jane Angello and Susan Johanson.
Evelyn was a member of the Eastern Star while living in Ohio, she worked for Warren Bettis as a legal secretary. Moving to Miami in 1959 where she worked for Coral Gables Federal Bank then later a legal secretary at Pagett, Teasley and Niles Law firm till her retirement in 1974. After that, her typing speed of 70 words per minute came in handy in helping Albert K. with his doctoral dissertation. Then moving from Miami to Eustis, Florida, Palm Bay, Florida and Reidsville, NC after Albert K. passed. The last five years in High Point, NC near her son Albert J.
Evelyn was known for her tenacity, for her last 20 years she suffered from ovarian cancer, breast cancer and macular degeneration in both eyes. As her sight became worse so did her will to go on. Her wish was returning to Ohio to be close to her husband.
Evelyn will be missed by all but her resilient spirit is forever remembered and inspiring.
Memorial services for Evelyn will be held Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 1 p.m. in the Woodland Cemetery Chapel, Salineville, Ohio.
