WELLSVILLE – Penny Eileen (Mattern) Hiller, of Boardman, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, was called to be with the Lord on Saturday morning, March 18, 2023. She was 74.
She entered this world on July 28, 1948, in East Liverpool, a daughter of the late Robert Orton “Buddy” Mattern and Barbara Jane (Bolton) Mattern.
She was a member of the Millcreek Community United Methodist Church. She made a lifetime career of providing excellent service while working for Denny’s and ending her career with the Springfield Bar and Grill. In her spare time, she enjoyed volunteering at church, actively participating in the Relay for Life as she was a breast cancer survivor. She loved her pets, reading, gardening, crafting and so much more. She was always keeping busy.
Penny is survived by three daughters, Tammy J. Jackson (Thomas Barry) of Crown City, Ohio, Ginger L. Fryman (Frederick) of Salem, and Penny Sue Mayfield (Andrew Martin) of Wellsville, as well as two stepchildren, Clifford Hiller II (Maryanne) of Medina and Norena Hiller of Salem. Also left to cherish her memory are nine grandchildren, Michael, Nichole, Kayla, Brooke, Joshua, Shannon, Cami, Cody and Tristan; and 14 great-grandchildren, Haley, MacKenzie, Xander, Jacob, Kaylee, Eli, Kiana, Hailey, Aarilyn, Amelia, Kaylina, Lillie, Connor and Isabella. Her siblings survive, Barbara R. (Daniel) Shenton of Hartville, Linda J. Merriman of East Liverpool, Robert O. Mattern Jr. of Wilson, North Carolina, and Diana L. Pastorius of Glen Dale, West Virginia. Her dear friend Tina Serra also survives along with many nieces, nephews and her beloved cat, Sophia.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Clifford E. Hiller, on Aug. 28, 2022. She was also preceded by a sister-in-law Ruth Mattern, brother-in-law Norman Pastorius, and nephew Daniel Shenton.
The family will be holding a Celebration of Life at her childhood home on July 1, 2023. Please contact a family member for further details.
