EAST PALESTINE -- Gene R. Hoffman, age 83, of East Palestine, died on October 5, 2022 at Lakeview Personal Care home, Darlington, Pa. He was born on July 31, 1939 in Franklin, Pa., son of the late Eugene H. and Betty Brown Hoffman. Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Turley Hoffman whom he married on May 2, 1959. Kathleen died on July 13, 2013.
Gene was a retired conductor for Conrail Railroad, and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church. He was active in the East Palestine community. Gene was a longtime member of the Park Board, Knights of Columbus, Moose, and Eagles. He especially loved taking care of the ducks at the park. He brought home many sick and injured ducks for rehabilitation.
He is survived by his sister, Stacey Hoffman-Kaltenbaugh, and his children, Vicki (Douglas Simpson) Hoffman, and Terry Hoffman.
In addition to his parents and wife, Gene was preceded in death by siblings Tina Relic, Sue Ann Hoffman, Michael Hoffman, and Nicolas Hoffman.
A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. The family will greet friends and relatives after at the church.
