Thomas W. Betz
Thomas W. Betz, a lifelong resident of Wellsville, Ohio passed at 7:02 a.m. Dec. 4, 2022 at East Liverpool City Hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was born Dec. 23, 1946 to the late Cadiz and Millicent Wolfe Betz.
Tom was preceded in death by his sister, Marjorie Fraser, and his brother, Earl Ray Betz.
Tom was a graduate of Wellsville High School and was active in High School Basketball and Area Baseball. He became very involved in youth baseball leagues and spent countless hours working with local kids, helping develop discipline and skills on the baseball diamond. He loved the youth of Wellsville with his whole heart and spent hours following Wellsville High School basketball, baseball and football as long as he was able.
Tom was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Tom worked most of his life in the consumer finance industry before retiring and starting Betz Job Services in an effort to help the people of Columbiana County find quality employment. Tom spent his entire life serving others.
Tom was a lifelong member of The Wellsville Elks Lodge #1040 as well as a few other social clubs and loved to be surrounded by his friends. He was a gregarious personality who loved to tell stories, play golf and play cards. He had a wildly competitive spirit and loved a good debate. He was sharp as a tack with the wits to match the best of us and yet he remained grounded and committed to the people he loved.
He is survived by his wife Dorothea K. Betz of 51 years who he thought the sun rose and set with, as well as his sons Thomas E. Betz and his wife Kimberly and Jonathan T. Betz and his wife Ginette. Tom had 11 grandchildren that included Tyler, Cameron, Madison, Ella, Alexia, Ginette, Jack and Maria on Jonathan’s side, and Ainsley, Addison and Tessie on Tom’s side.
Tom is in the care of Arner Funeral Chapel and he requested there be no service. A memorial of his life will be scheduled Saturday, Dec. 18 from 4 to 6 p.m. at 711 1/2 Main St., Wellsville, Ohio. All are encouraged to come with their favorite T.W. Betz story.
