Edwin Eugene ‘Ed’ Baird

SALEM — Edwin Eugene “Ed” Baird, 90, of Goshen Twp., Salem, died at 6:20 a.m. Friday at Salem Regional Medical Center.

He was born on November 29, 1932 in Patmos, Ohio, the son of the late William Henry and Dorothy (Bradt) Baird.

Ed was a 1951 graduate of the Goshen High School, served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955, during the Korean War. He was brought up in the Christian faith.

He was employed for over 41 years with various General Motors dealerships in Leetonia, North Lima, Boardman and Salem. Ed wore many hats over the years from a service manager, assistant service manager, service technician and service advisor over the years.

In his younger years he loved to be outdoors hunting and fishing. He later in life found enjoyment gardening, mowing the grass, always tinkering and wrenching on cars, and spending quality time with his family making special memories.

He is survived by his children: Debra L. (Scott) Sanor of East Rochester, Rebecca J. (Jack) Cavanaugh of Leetonia, and Douglas Eugene Baird of Salem, six grandchildren: Shawn Bruderly, Tod Sanor, Brooke Tice, Andy Sanor, Nicholas Baird and Erica Swope, and twelve great grandchildren, siblings: Sheila (Glenn) Spack of Salem and Georgia (Bill) Sanor of Del City, Okla., numerous nieces and nephews and his caring in-laws.

In addition to his parents, and step mother Virginia Baird, he was preceded in death on November 19, 2019, by his lovely sweetheart of 67 years, the former Betty J. Hough, Sister: Gwendolyn Steelsmith and a daughter-in-law: Cathy (Metzgar) Baird.

A private family burial will be in Bunker Hill Cemetery with military honors from the Salem Honor Guard.
