Alfred Walter Lee Wittenauer Jr.
EAST PALESTINE — Alfred Walter Lee Wittenauer Jr., 85, passed away Sept. 15, 2022, at his home following a lengthy illness.
Alfred was born April 21, 1937, in Youngstown, Ohio, son of Alfred Sr. and Jean Bowers Wittenauer.
Alfred was proud of the fact that he carried not only his father’s name, but also his grandfather’s name as his middle name. He was a veteran of the US Army and has resided in East Palestine for over 50 years. He was owner and operator of Wolfe Hardware Store, and also worked as a long-haul truck driver. He was known as a very handy person, and enjoyed working, being outdoors walking his dogs and loved going to car shows looking at classic cars.
He is survived by a son, Robert Melczak; seven daughters, Dr. Venus Wittenauer, Dr. Valerie Rockenberger, Teresa Gillard, Lisa Manes, Terry Seltzer, Tammy Simonds and Pam Melczak; two sisters, Donna and Patricia; numerous grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Bonnie Wittenauer.
Following Alfred’s wishes, a private family memorial service will be planned, no public services will be observed.
