William A. (Bill) Dowd, 92 passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at his residence in Wappingers Falls, NY, after a lengthy illness.
He was born October 23, 1929, to the late Joseph and Gladys Dowd in Lisbon, Ohio.
At the young age of 11, he made his decision to serve God and was baptized as one of Jehova's witnesses on October 20, 1940. He was very involved in the local congregation of Jehova's Witnesses, teaching the Bible in the congregation and in the community. He lived his life by the Bible principles he taught. He became well-loved for his generous and hospitable spirit.
After raising his family, in 1976 he and Donna moved to upstate New York as volunteers at Watchtower Farms in Wallkill, NY and then at the Watchtower Educational Center in Patterson, NY. They spent 43 years of devoted service there, building a legacy of caring and sharing, again becoming well-loved by all who knew them.
Bill graduated from David Anderson High School in Lisbon in 1947. After school, Bill married Donna Jean Faulk on April 2, 1949. Together they had three children: Bill Dowd, of Garrettsville, Ohio (deceased), LaVerna Denny of NC and Timothy Dowd of Lisbon, Ohio. Bill worked hard to support his family, being employed as a mechanic and a truck driver, later even operating his own small trucking company.
Bill is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 73 years, Donna Jean; his daughter LaVerna and his son Timothy; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his oldest child, Bill; his brothers, Joseph Dowd, Frank Dowd and Richard Dowd and his sister, Margaret Foster.
A private graveside service was held in Wallkill, NY on August 19, 2022, with immediate family and a few close friends in attendance.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 2, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. EST, at the Auditorium at the Patterson Educational Center, Patterson, NY. The program will be streamed live to the Lisbon Kingdom Hall, 38195 Hunter Camp Road, Lisbon, Ohio. Friends and relatives are welcome to visit with the family at the Kingdom Hall an hour ahead of the service. For the protection of all in attendance, masks are preferred.
