Judd Evans Griffith, having lived an active and full life, passed away at his home in Sunrise, Fla. July 10, 2022, after a brief illness. Judd was born on Dec. 10, 1951, in Salem, Ohio to the late Byron and Elane (Hiscox) Griffith. He spent his youth in Lisbon, Ohio for 18 years and excelled at Little League baseball. A favorite family story was the time when he pitched the winning game against the team his father coached.
Judd was an unsung hero as noted in a local sports article for his role on the outstanding David Anderson High School (Lisbon) Blue Devils basketball team that won division titles in 1970. He earned varsity letters in both basketball and golf. After high school, Judd pursued his academic studies at Ashland College graduating in 1974 and completed a postgraduate degree in psychology in 1975 at Kent State University. He used his skills as an industrial sales engineer for his career in the southeastern United States working for Deming Pumps, Flowserve and Pumping Systems, to name a few companies.
Judd is survived by his son, Joshua Griffith, Suwanee, Georgia, and his daughter Jennifer (Griffith) Pintaluba, and son-in-law Federico Pintaluba, Coral Gables, Florida. A wonderful joy in Judd's (Pee-Paw's) life were two adorable grandchildren who looked forward to his Saturday visits. Judd also leaves his sister Stephanie Griffith, Pennsylvania.
Judd remained athletic in later years in the Atlanta Lawn and Tennis Association (ALTA) league and in 2013 won a T2 Tennis All City Championship with his son, Josh. In 1984, he successfully ran the July 4 Peachtree Road Race 10k. He also enjoyed biking on greenway trails in the Alpharetta, Ga. area, he loved to play his guitar, and he had a passion for energy healing and was experienced in Reiki.
One of Judd's favorite holidays was Memorial Day. He enjoyed watching his father, Byron, who fought as a Marine in WWII in the Battle of Bougainville and Guadalcanal march in the American Legion ceremony. To respect Judd's wishes, his immediate family will hold a private ceremony, but family and friends may honor Judd in a tribute through the Van Orsdel Funeral Home page in Coral Gables, Fla. Judd managed type 1 diabetes for 47 years, therefore in lieu of flowers, contributions to his memory are welcomed for the American Diabetes Association.
