Geneva K. ‘Jean’ Wonner

EAST PALESTINE — Geneva K. “Jean” Wonner, 74, passed away June 18, 2022 in Niles, following a lengthy illness.

Jean was born July 31, 1947 in Webster Springs, W.Va., daughter of the late William D. Shields and Ruby Tracy Shields.

She graduated from Niles-McKinley High School, enjoyed playing online video games and was known for baking Christmas cookies. Her greatest love was her family, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Jean is survived by two sons, Gary (Tina) Wonner of Austintown, David Michael Wonner of Atlanta, Ga.; five grandchildren, James A. (Margaret Scarabino) Wonner, Nicholas (Sarah Toth) Teeter, Zach Altman, Griffin Daniel Wonner, Rachel (Jr) Boley; three great-grandchildren, Dusty, Desirae and Colton; three sisters, Rose Thorpe, Deloris Latour, Evelyn Kimmel and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 26 years, Daniel A. Wonner in 1996, her companion of 20 years, Thomas DeCost in 2020; three brothers, William, Larry and Ricky Shields and three sisters, Virginia Pugh, Fern Reese and Sherill Petrie.

The family wishes to thank her sisters Rose and Deloris as well as the Hospice of the Valley for all the care they showed to Jean.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Linsley-Royal Funeral Home in East Palestine. A funeral will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. Gary Rozier officiating. Interment will follow at Crest Haven Memorial Gardens in New Waterford.
