Howard Gilbert Harker

SALINEVILLE — Howard Gilbert Harker, 83, of Salineville, died at his home on April 8, 2022.

He was born on January 25, 1939 in East Liverpool, the son of the late Ralph G. and Mary Lottie (Shank) Harker. He was one of the dozen children that they had.

He was a loyal faithful American, and served almost 21 years of his life in the US Army. His term of obligation and reserve time ended on February 10, 1990. During his years of service he received numerous commendations. Nat’l Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 5 bronze stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Vietnam Civil Action Honor Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Combat Infantryman Badge, Purple Heart with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and Good Conduct Medal with 6th Awards. Howard also served as a Military Police officer for over 4 years. Upon his return to the area, he worked as a foreman at Summitville Tile.

Golfing brought him pleasure and many of his friends will remember him teeing up and driving the ball straight down the fairway.

He is preceded in death by his wife Linda (Raffle) and is survived by his children: Mark (Amy) Harker of Mentor and Kimberly (Monty) DeRuyter of Lisbon, (Kim passed three days after her father), and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren with another one due any day.

The burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Salineville. The family is planning to have a service with full military honors.
