Lois J. Papania

Together Again

EAST PALESTINE — Lois J. Papania, 88, a lifelong resident of the area, passed away March 6, 2022 at Covington Skilled Nursing Center in East Palestine.

Lois was born November 2, 1933, in East Palestine, daughter of the late James and Cecilia Gillis Rafferty.

She was a graduate of East Palestine High School and a lifelong member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and active on its Ladies Aide Society. She worked alongside her family as co-owner of Papania Farms and Market.

Lois is survived by a daughter, Marina Papania Davis of East Palestine; three grandchildren, Colleen (Patrick) Mahon, Amanda Davis, and Frank Papania; seven great-grandchildren, Mary, Emily, Ben, Ethan and Ian Mahon, Erica Roberts and Reece Gholston as well as several great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Papania, Sr. in 2005; her son, Frank Papania, Jr. in 2019; three sisters and a brother in infancy.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday March 15, 2022, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Father David Misbrener serving as Celebrant. A private burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the Linsley-Royal Funeral Home prior to services.

Lois was proud of her Irish heritage, so the family asks that you wear something green in her honor if you wish. Memorial contributions can be made in lieu of flowers to Our Lady of Lourdes Ladies Aide Society, C/O St. Jude Catholic Church, 180 7th St. Columbiana, OH 44408.
