Together again

EAST LIVERPOOL — Charles Byron Dray, of East Liverpool, passed away Friday morning, October 29, 2021, at Crossroads Assisted Living. He was 96.

Born in East Liverpool, August 7, 1925, he was a son of the late Harold A. and Kathryn Clements Dray. A resident of this area all his life, he worked at the former Crucible Steel Company until retiring in 1982. He later worked as a janitor for St. Clair Township. A member of Longs Run Trinity Presbyterian Church, he was active with the food pantry and assisted with the church construction project. He held life membership in the Columbiana County Bowhunters and was associated with the Carbarn Heathens.

A World War II veteran, he served with the U.S. Navy aboard the PC 614 as a 3rdClass Motor Machinist Mate.

His wife, Jacqueline L. “Jackie” Dray, preceded him in death on July 29, 2018. He was also preceded in death by a son Scott Dray, four sisters, Jean Smiley, Mary Wilson, Martha Carpenter and Pauline Childs, as well as three brothers, Homer W. Dray, Elmer L. Dray and Robert C. Dray.

Survivors include a daughter, Leigh Carman, and her husband Tom, of East Liverpool, and a daughter-in-law Marsha Dray, of Ravenna, along with three grandchildren, Jessica, Nathaniel and Winfield, and two great-grandchildren, Brian and Imogen. A sister survives, Barbara Nutt of Canton.

Reverend Brian Nutt will conduct a funeral service Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Dawson Funeral Home. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be at Columbiana County Memorial Park where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will conduct military honors.

Following the service, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
