EAST LIVERPOOL – Roger W. Mays, 71 of East Liverpool, died Tuesday at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh following a brief illness.
He was born Jan. 20, 1945 in East Liverpool, the son of Roderick Mays Sr. and Violet Davis Mays.
Mr. Mays was a U.S. Army veteran, seeing heavy action in Vietnam. He was employed at the former Crucible Steel in Midland until it was idled and then began a career as a truck driver.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Janice Mays.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Allgood Mays; a daughter, Jennifer Mays of East Liverpool; four siblings, Roderick Mays Jr. of Tennessee, Candace Merritt of Florida, and Rexford Mays and Jill Dailey of East Liverpool; and two grandchildren.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester, W.Va., where Pastor Dirk Hall will officiate a celebration of life service 11 a.m. Saturday.
