Sheriff’s Office — Deputies at 10:36 p.m. Tuesday investigated a report of a 5-year-old child showing up alone at the Duke and Duchess gas mart on U.S. Route 62 in Knox Township without any adult supervision. The child reportedly arrived with no shoes on and no shirt and was unable to clearly identify his parents or provide any contact information. After a thorough investigation, it was determined the child lived substantially west of the location and left home without his parents knowing, walking down a very busy U.S. Route 62 by himself. Salem — Officers responded to the Salem Regional Medical Center emergency room at 2:03 a.m. Friday in reference to an assault. The victim reported at approximately 10:30 p.m. that night he was walking in the east/west alley in the area of East Third Street and Vine Avenue when he was caught by surprise by a man who struck him in the right eye and mouth, causing large lacerations.
