Sheriff's Office
-- Deputies were dispatched at 7:53 p.m. Thursday to Gamble Road at Sell Road, Center Township, for a person sitting in the middle of the roadway. A deputy made contact with the woman who was walking westbound on Sell Road and gave her a courtesy transport to her residence on Sell Road, Center Township.
-- A woman on Howell Road, Unity Township reported at 5:28 p.m. Thursday that she mailed a check for $80 through the mail on May 7, 2025 and on Sept. 17, 2026, the check was cashed for $370.
-- Jackson Township Police Department in Mahoning County called at 4:51 p.m. Thursday to request a Columbiana County deputy make contact with a man from Hawkins Road, Unity Township and have him call Jackson Township police due to his trailer parked in the middle of a roadway in their jurisdiction. A deputy made contact with the man and he said he sold that trailer but did not take the license plate off of it. He said he would contact Jackson Township police.
-- A woman on North Pleasant Drive, Unity Township reported at 4:20 p.m. Thursday that she's in the process of moving out and her landlord is trying to move in other people. She was told to contact an attorney.
-- A woman on Raley Road, Elkrun Township reported at 9:45 p.m. Wednesday that her son's father, New Castle, Pa., has temporary custody of their son and he will not tell her where they are. She was advised to contact an attorney.
-- A domestic dispute was reported at 8:31 p.m. Wednesday at a property on state Route 14, Unity Township. Deputies arrived and spoke to all parties involved. Deputies were advised everything was verbal and nothing physical happened. All parties said they would be separating for the night.
-- An animal-related call was reported at 5:31 p.m. Wednesday at a residence on state Route 9, Butler Township. The animal was located at a residence on Hartley Road, Knox Township, where the owner came and retrieved the animal.
--A Madison Township woman called at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday regarding a misbehaving juvenile and wanted to know what options she had. A deputy who contacted her advised her of the avenues she could possibly pursue.
Highway Patrol
-- James H. Stryffeler, 43, Homeworth, and his passenger escaped injury after his northbound vehicle on Bandy Road struck a cow crossing the roadway at 12:07 a.m. Sept. 22 in Knox Township.
Leetonia
- An officer responded to the 400 block of Somer Street at 10:33 p.m. Wednesday in reference to a resident who found a possible sash hanging from her passenger rear door after returning home from a pool league in Struthers. The material was collected as evidence, to be turned over to the Struthers Police Department or handled by the Leetonia Police Department.
- An officer responded to the 300 block of Columbia Street at 5:03 p.m. Wednesday in reference to a domestic dispute. The officer found it was verbal altercation regarding a cat.
- An officer responded to the group home on High Street at 9:23 a.m. Wednesday in reference to a resident threatening suicide. The officer stood by until the resident was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
Salem
-- A hit and skip was reported in the 800 block of North Ellsworth Avenue at 1:02 a.m. Friday. The caller advised they'd heard a loud crash and a vehicle engine rev in the area. Officers located a traffic sign down and several vehicle tracks off the roadway where an unknown vehicle struck the sign and ran into a yard. Photos of the damage were taken, and officers will follow up to check for possible footage of the incident from a nearby security camera. The investigation is ongoing.
-- Officers checked on a man sleeping in a vehicle with loud music playing that employees were unable to wake up at 12:30 a.m. Friday. Officers spoke with the man and gave him a ride back to his residence.
-- A civil issue was reported in the 500 block of Continental Drive at 9:36 p.m. Thursday. The caller advised that she believed her brother had taken photos of their mother's credit cards and planned on transferring money to his cash app. The son had fled the area prior to officers' arrival, and the mother was advised to watch for any unusual charges to her cards and to begin the eviction process on her son.
-- Two people to be removed were reported at a business in the 2300 block of East State Street at 7:40 p.m. Thursday. Officers served the people with trespass notices at the business's request. Due to the people living in their vehicle and the vehicle being broken down, they were advised to have it moved as quickly as possible.
-- Possible shots fired were reported in the 1700 block of East State Street at 6:45 p.m. Thursday. The caller advised that one of her sons had been shot at by the other. They were requested to return to the scene but declined, and the alleged victim did not want to cooperate with officers, advising he would handle the issue himself. A witness advised that two vehicles were at the intersection of East State Street and North Madison Avenue with one man standing outside of the vehicles, and that a "pop" was heard and both vehicles sped off north. The scene was documented and evidence was collected. Further investigation is pending.
-- A burglary was reported in the 1200 block of Southeast Boulevard at 1:25 p.m. Thursday. The caller advised that sometime last week an unknown person had entered his residence without permission and taken $100. They requested a report on file to document the damage
-- Criminal damaging was reported in the 400 block of Aetna Street at 10:51 a.m. Thursday. The caller advised that the back fence had been cut, and a window had been broken out at a property he owns. They were unsure who may have caused the damage but requested the incident be documented.
-- A suspicious person taking photos of juveniles at a bus stop was reported in the 700 block of Summit Street at 9:49 a.m. Thursday. The caller was advised that there would be an extra watch placed at that stop.
-- A ladder protruding into the roadway was reported in the 1200 block of East Third Street at 8:45 a.m. Thursday. Officers observed a worker on the ladder connecting fiber optic lines with a vehicle with its hazard lights on to provide a safety barrier for the base of the ladder.
