Highway Patrol

-- Douglas J. Thomas, 76, Jones Drive, Salem, was cited for assured clear distance after his westbound vehicle struck the rear of a westbound vehicle driven by Robert R. Grinder, 61, East Grant Street, East Palestine, who was stopped at the light on state Route 14 at 6:28 p.m. Sept. 8 in Salem at the Salem Plaza. No injuries were reported.

-- Richard S. Forbes, 55, Salineville Road, Salineville, was cited for improper passing after his westbound vehicle attempted to pass another westbound vehicle driven by Edward E. Carter, 72, Dover, who was turning left and struck the Forbes vehicle at 1:33 p.m. Sept. 8 on state Route 39 in Wayne Township. No injuries were reported.

-- Robert H. Miller, 20, Lisbon Dungannon Road, Lisbon, was cited for assured clear distance after his northbound vehicle struck the rear of another northbound vehicle driven by Debra K. Stevens, 70, Lisbon Dungannon Road, Lisbon, who was turning right into the Sunoco gas station at 1:32 p.m. Sept. 5 in Center Township. No injuries were reported.

-- Angelika Dean, 62, Merle Road,, Salem, was cited for marked lanes after her vehicle went off of state Route 172 and struck a culvert and utility pole at 6:59 p.m. Sept. 4 in West Township. No injury was reported.

-- Susan B. Frye, 70, state Route 14, East Palestine, was cited for assured clear distance after her southbound vehicle struck another southbound vehicle driven by Floyd E. Sorrell, 71, West Clark Street, East Palestine, who was stopped at a stop sign on state Route 170 at 9:08 a.m. Sept. 4 in Unity Township. No injuries were reported.

-- No injuries were reported and no citations were issued after two separate accidents involved vehicles striking trees in the road. At 10:30 p.m. Sept. 3 in Unity Township, Steven C. Windle, 37, England Drive, East Palestine, struck a tree while westbound on state Route 14. A 17-year-old driver struck a tree in the road while southbound on state Route 9 at 9:38 p.m. Sept. 3, with the vehicle traveling off of the road, striking a ditch, tree and overturning onto its side.

-- Richard S. Grim, 62, Malibu Drive, East Palestine, was cited for assured clear distance after his truck struck an overhead utility line at 9:40 a.m. Sept. 3 on state Route 170 in Middleton Township. No injury was reported.

-- Kenneth A. Elkins, 28, Union Ridge Road, Rogers, was cited for a stop sign violation and driving under suspension after his vehicle stopped at a stop sign on Quay Road and turned left in front of a northbound vehicle driven by Preston R. Nalley,, 221, Union Ridge Road, Rogers, on state Route 170 at 8:34 a.m. Sept. 3 in Middleton Township, causing the Nalley vehicle to strike the rear of the Elkins vehicle. No injuries were reported.

-- A hit/skip was reported at 5:19 p.m. Sept. 2 in Salem Township when an unidentified vehicle traveled left of center and fled the scene while northbound on Lisbon Road. A southbound vehicle driven by a 16-year-old driver swerved to avoid the other vehicle and struck a ditch, a culvert and embankment and overturned. No injury was reported.

-- Robert L. Szymanski, 19, Newton Falls, was cited for assured clear distance after his southbound vehicle on state Route 45 in Salem struck the rear of another southbound vehicle driven by Christopher A. Merrell, 39, Poland, who slowed to turn left at 2:18 p.m. Sept. 1. No injuries were reported.

Columbiana

-- Officers responded to a mental health related call on Manor Drive at 4:04 a.m. Sept. 5.

-- Brittany Ruf, 32, Darlington, Pa., was cited for operating a vehicle in violation of temporary permiet restrictions following a traffic stop on state Route 14 near Creek Road at 1:25 p.m. Sept. 4.

-- Lonna Cope, 44, Columbiana, was charged with OVI following a traffic stop on South Main Street at 9:58 p.m. Sept. 2.

-- Amy Smith, 50, of Columbiana, was charged with driving under the influence following a 911 call in the area of state routes 164 and 14 at 11:49 p.m. Aug. 28.

-- David Straka, 39, Toronto, was charged with driving under suspension and possession of drug paraphernalia following a traffic stop on state Route 14 at 9:12 a.m. Aug. 28. Additional charges were pending BCI lab results.

-- Anthony J. Lopshansky, 42, Columbiana, was charged with domestic violence and strangulation after officers responded to a West Woodland Avenue home at 12:59 p.m. Aug. 25.

Salem

-- Ariel Durham, 36, Salem, was taken into custody for an outstanding warrant in the 500 block of East Fifth Street at 2:03 p.m. Thursday.

-- A person down was reported in the 1000 block of Buckeye Avenue at 1:53 p.m. Thursday. Officers located the person and the fire department ambulance transported them for further evaluation. Officers contacted a relative of the person to look after a dog left in the house and let them know where they were being transported to.

-- Officers spoke to a man at the police department at 12:28 p.m. Thursday who advised he had been assaulted. The man filled out a statement, and the matter will be sent to the prosecutor's office for potential charges.

-- A missing juvenile was reported in the 600 block of East Sixth Street at 11:40 a.m. Thursday. The caller advised their daughter had gotten out of the house and was missing. Officers checked the area and located the juvenile.

-- Theft was reported in the 1000 block of East State Street at 11:24 a.m. Thursday. The caller advised that they had placed their vape on a bench while at work, and someone had ridden up on a bike and stolen it. Officers watched a video of the incident and located the person in question who admitted to taking the vape. Officers retrieved the item and returned it to the caller.
