Perry Township
-- Burglary was reported in the 1100 block of West Perry Street at 10:55 p.m. Thursday. The caller advised that when they returned home, their couch was damaged with what appeared to be ink and that $2,000 in cash and approximately $1,000 worth of knives were gone. There was no sign of forced entry, and they were advised that a report would be on file.
-- A person to be removed was reported at the Saxon Club at 8:39 p.m. Thursday. The caller advised that a man had been asked to leave by one of the groundskeepers and then followed the groundskeeper to their home and confronted her, and that they wanted the man trespassed. Officers advised the man of the same and that he was not permitted to return to the property.
-- A woman was reported walking in the middle of the roadway on state Route 344 at 11:24 p.m. Wednesday. The woman in question was transported to the hospital.
-- A woman was reported to have stabbed herself while experiencing a seizure in the 300 block of Springdale Street at 2:14 p.m. Wednesday. Officers assisted the fire department and EMT as needed, and the woman was transported to the Salem Regional Medical Center.
-- Officers assisted the fire department with an unresponsive man in the 1700 block of Depot Road at 1:06 p.m. July 7. The man was life-flighted from the scene.
Salem
-- A domestic in progress was reported in the 2200 block of Southeast Boulevard at 11:50 p.m. Sunday. Officers could hear screaming inside the residence when they arrived, and a juvenile locked the door to prevent them from entering after they announced themselves. Officers ordered them to open the door several times as the screaming continued, and officers ultimately kicked in the door. As officers entered the residence, Steven Cappitte, 41, Salem, approached officers aggressively and was taken into custody. The juvenile, whose name was not listed, then pushed an officer before fleeing from the officers and throwing a vacuum at them and was taken into custody charged with delinquency after a physical altercation and transported to the Louis Tobin Attention Center. Officers were advised by the caller and the victim that Cappitte had threatened and thrown items at the victim, and Cappitte was transported to the Columbiana County Jail charged with domestic violence.
-- A domestic in progress was reported in the 300 block of Penn Avenue at 11:07 p.m. Sunday. The involved parties provided conflicting statements, and one was transported to the hospital for a mental health evaluation. Officers will follow up at a later date.
-- A dispute was reported in the 600 block of Woodland Avenue at 11:59 a.m. Sunday. Officers observed a woman to be experiencing a possible mental health crisis and the fire department and EMT responded to assess them. The woman was transported to an appropriate medical facility for further evaluation.
-- Caleb Postlethwait, Salem, was cited for failure to yield after his vehicle struck another vehicle driven eastbound in the 1800 block of East State Street by Roger Cain, Rogers, while exiting a private lot at 9:59 a.m. Sunday.
-- Two juveniles were reported walking across a bridge on Jennings Avenue unattended at 3:12 a.m. Sunday. Officers spoke with the juveniles, who advised they were going to the store to get a drink. It was determined that their parents did not know they had left the house and they were taken back home to their parents.
-- Officers spoke with a person by phone at 11:35 a.m. Saturday regarding threats. The caller advised that a man had come to their residence and threatened them, and while they did not want to pursue charges, they requested a report on file.
-- Theft was reported in the 800 block of Aetna Street at 11:54 a.m. Thursday. The caller was advised of the options for dealing with the situation.
-- An assault was reported in the area of Waterworth Memorial Park at 7:16 a.m. Thursday. Officers found that two people had been staying in a tent in the area and got into a verbal argument which turned physical and that they had attacked each other with a pair of scissors. Both parties, Kyle Gloss, 25, homeless, and Mason Patchin, 23, homeless, were transported to the Salem Regional Medical Center for medical attention and after being cleared were transported to the Columbiana County Jail charged with felonious assault.
-- Officers spoke with a woman at the police department at 9:11 p.m. Thursday who advised that she believed someone had been following her as she was receiving text messages when in public. The woman was advised to call back if she felt she was being followed while in the city, and to contact the police department where she resides.
-- Officers on patrol in the 1100 block of East State Street at 7:56 p.m. Thursday observed a person with an outstanding warrant. Officers took the man, Matthew Crowl, 47, Salem, into custody and transported him the Columbiana County Jail.
-- Officers checked on a resident in the 1300 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 3:37 p.m. Thursday who did not answer the door for therapy. Officers could hear the person inside their apartment, who advised that they needed help. The apartment manager was able to unlock the door, and officers located the resident inside, who had fallen. The fire department and EMT responded, and the resident was transported to the Salem Regional Medical Center.
