Salem

–Officers responded to the 1900 block of East State Street at 10:51 p.m. Sunday for a report of a person allegedly attempting to break into vehicles in the hospital parking lot. Officers spoke with the person in question who denied the allegation and advised they were eating at a nearby business and started walking down the sidewalk to a family member’s house. Officers advised them to stay off private property.

–Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 9:40 p.m. Sunday about getting a ride to East Liverpool. Officers advised him that he could stay at the station for the evening until he could find a ride.

–Officers responded to the 1900 block of East Pershing Street at 8:49 p.m. Sunday to assist EMT with a combative patient. The patient had allegedly thrown a urinal at a nurse and the doctor was requiring emergency hospitalization for the patient. Officers stood by until the emergency admission was completed, and the patient was loaded for transport to a hospital.

–Officers responded to the 700 block of West Wilson Street at 7:09 p.m. Sunday for a reported person to be removed. The caller advised that her boyfriend’s wife was trying to take her child from the residence. Officers spoke with both parties and advised them that it was a civil matter.

–Officers responded to the 800 block of North Ellsworth Avenue at 6:45 p.m. Sunday for a reported suspicious person. The caller got a tip stating that a man had knocked on someone’s door and asked for a ride to East Liverpool. Officers were unable to locate the person. However, later in the shift the person walked into the police department and requested a ride to East Liverpool.

–Officers responded to the 100 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 1:12 p.m. Sunday to check on a man who appeared to be upset and talking to himself. Officers observed the man to be calm, and no abnormal behavior was observed. The man was picked up by a friend and sent on his way.

–Officers responded to the 300 block of Ohio Avenue at 12:24 p.m. Sunday for a reported domestic in progress. The caller advised that two juvenile children started yelling at each other. The caller advised this was an ongoing issue, and officers advised them that if they can’t be civil to stay away from each other.

–Officers responded to the 2500 block of Lexington Avenue at 11:06 a.m. Sunday for a reported person to be removed. The caller advised that a woman who had been staying with her for a few days was being verbally aggressive and refusing to leave. The woman in question left prior to officers’ arrival and no physical violence was reported. The caller was advised to call back if the woman returned.

–Officers responded to the 100 block of West Fourth Street at 5:28 a.m. Sunday for a reported 911 hang up call. When officers arrived, the vehicle in question was on the way to the hospital.

–Officers responded to the 1200 block of Southeast Boulevard at 3:30 a.m. Sunday for a wellness check. The caller advised that their neighbor was pounding on their door asking for an ambulance. Officers spoke with the neighbor who advised that he was highly intoxicated, and he was transported to the hospital by EMT.

–Officers assisted the Ohio Highway State Patrol with an OVI arrest at the police department at 2:45 a.m. Sunday by conducting a breath test.

–Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 10:35 p.m. Saturday for a reported dispute. The caller advised that a woman was hitting a man and that the man had pushed her off. Officers spoke with them at a nearby business and the male half advised that he was waiting for his sister and had not been hit but the woman grabbed him when he went to get out of the vehicle. There were no visible injuries on the man, and both went on their way.

–Officers responded with the fire department and EMT to the 100 block of Buckeye Avenue at 8:48 p.m. Saturday for a wellness check. The caller advised that the person in question was hallucinating and saying things that did not make sense. Officers spoke with the person who advised he was not hallucinating but stated that he didn’t feel well. He was tended to by medical personnel, but a refusal for transport was obtained by EMT.

–Officers responded to the 2300 block of East State Street at 7:21 p.m. Saturday for a public assist. The caller advised that an elderly woman came up to her and told her that she was lost. Officers spoke with the person in question and were able to determine where she lived. Officers gave her a courtesy transport home.

–Officers on patrol in the 200 block of East Fourth Street at 6:28 p.m. Saturday observed a man with an active warrant out of the Columbiana Couty Sheriff’s Office. Officers confirmed the warrant and Jason Sorrell, 51, Salem, was taken into custody and transported to the Columbina County Jail.

–Officers responded to the 2200 block of Lexington Avenue at 2:39 p.m. Saturday for a reported ambulance needed. Officers assisted until the fire department and EMT arrived.

–Officers spoke to a person by phone at 10:14 a.m. Saturday about an incident which occurred at Circle K. The caller advised they went to pump gas and had fallen on ice and hit their head. The caller went inside the store to let the worker know about the ice and was advised they were bleeding from the head, and they left the scene to go to work but were later sent to the emergency room from work. The caller wanted the incident to be documented.

–Officers responded to the 200 block of West Fifth Street at 10:04 a.m. Saturday for a reported 911 hang up call. Officers determined there was no emergency and that children had been playing with a phone.

–Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 9:21 a.m. Saturday for a report of a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. Officers located the driver in the parking lot of a business who advised they had passed the caller legally on the roadway, and the caller continued to follow him through the city limits but eventually separated. The driver showed no signs of impairment and was sent on his way.

–Officers responded to the 500 block of South Broadway Avenue at 2:30 a.m. Saturday for a reported assault. The caller advised that a man had grabbed her aggressively and punched her boyfriend. The caller advised they had accidentally bumped into the person, who grabbed her arm very hard, and her boyfriend stepped in to separate them. Once they were inside and sitting on the couch the man came inside and punched the boyfriend in the face. Officers gathered video footage and advised the caller to come to the police department the next day to give a written statement. Officers were unable to contact the man, but the matter is under investigation.

–Officers on patrol in the 800 block of East School Street at 2:21 a.m. Saturday observed a vehicle in the parking lot after park hours. Officers spoke with the occupants and advised them of the park’s hours.

–Officers responded to the 2400 block of Edgewood Drive at 11:44 p.m. Friday for a reported suspicious vehicle. The caller advised a vehicle was parked in front of their house for five hours. Officers observed the vehicle to be parked legally on the roadway with nobody inside.

–Officers responded to the 600 block of Ohio Avenue at 11:06 p.m. Friday for a reported animal complaint. The caller advised their neighbor has many stray cats and continues to bring in more. Officers advised the caller to contact the department during the week to advise animal control.

–Officers responded to the 200 block of West Eighth Street at 10:10 p.m. Friday for a reported 911 hang up call. Officers were unable to locate anyone.

–Officers responded to the area of South Lincoln Avenue and Aetna Street at 7:24 p.m. Friday to assist the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office with a traffic stop. K-9 Fero was deployed and alerted to the presence of narcotics coming from the vehicle. Contraband was recovered from the vehicle.

–Officers responded to the 100 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 4:44 p.m. Friday to speak with a woman about explicit pictures being posted online. The woman advised that photos she had taken of herself and posted online had be reposted to another website without her consent and that photos of other women known to her had been posted on the same website. The officer advised them of the potential consequences of sharing photos of that type and to make an effort to delete the content from the unauthorized website.

–Officers responded to the 500 block of East Perry Street at 4:16 p.m. Friday for a reported person to be removed. The caller advised that the person in question had left prior to officers’ arrival and that they did not want to speak with the man, who wouldn’t leave until she said that she was calling the police.

–Officers responded to the 100 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 2:06 p.m. Friday for a report of a known person making threats in a social media group chat the night prior. The threats were not directed toward the caller, and the person making the threat had been kicked out of the chat. Officers advised the caller that the incident would be documented for future reference just in case further issues arise.

–Officers responded to the 1300 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 1:37 p.m. Friday for a report of harassment. The caller advised their ex-boyfriend drives by her residence multiple times a day and blows the horn. Officers contacted the man, who admitted to doing so, and advised him to stop. The man advised that it wouldn’t happen again.

–Officers responded to the 300 block of West Second Street at 12:06 p.m. Friday for a wellness check. While emergency personnel were on scene, a family member arrived and everything was confirmed to be okay.

–Officers responded to the 400 block of East State Street at 10:54 a.m. Friday for a report of criminal mischief. The caller advised that a former employee has been observed on video throwing glass bottles at the door of the business, and that this has been an ongoing issue for the last few months with two reports already filed about the issue. Officers spoke with the person at their residence, and they admitted to being at the business the night prior and throwing the bottle at the front door. Officers advised him there was video of him doing so on two other nights as well, and he admitted to doing so on those nights as well. Officers advised him the owner did not want to file charges at that time but wanted him trespassed from the property. The man said that he wouldn’t go back.

–Officers responded to the 1500 block of Southeast Boulevard at 9:45 a.m. Friday to assist the fire department and EMT with a medical emergency. Officers stood by until they were no longer needed.

Perry Township

–Officers on patrol in the 1900 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 3:29 a.m. Sunday located a suspicious vehicle at a closed business. Officers found the car to be secured and unoccupied.

–Officers on patrol in the area of state Route 45 and West State Street located a suspicious man walking along the roadway at 12:58 a.m. Sunday. Officers spoke with the man, who advised that he was walking home from work.

–While leaving the scene of a prior call in the 1600 block of State Boulevard at 11:48 p.m. Saturday located a vehicle which was pulled off the roadway. The driver was found to be a juvenile, and officers confiscated a pack of cigarettes and a vape advising the driver of the age requirements and issuing a verbal warning for the violations.

–Officers responded to the 1600 block of State Boulevard at 11:35 p.m. Saturday for a report of a party with possible juveniles. The homeowner advised that juveniles had attempted to come but were told to leave.

–Officers responded to the 1300 block of East Eleventh Street at 10:27 p.m. Saturday for a reported breaking and entering in progress. When officers arrived, they found that the people in question were locked out and the fire department responded and was able to gain entry to the residence.

–Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 2:10 p.m. Wednesday about a telephone scam. Officers collected the necessary information and an investigation is pending.

–Officers responded to the area of East State Street and North Ellsworth Avenue at 8:40 p.m. Feb. 9 to assist Salem Officers with a traffic stop. Officers stood by during a vehicle search, and the driver was taken into custody.

Fire Reports

–Firefighters responded to the 2200 block of East State Street at 8 p.m. Feb. 9 for a report of a person trapped inside their car inside the automatic car wash building. Engine two was able to free the driver by tripping the door sensor so it would open.
