Columbiana

— Michael Paterchek, no address listed, was cited at 6:10 p.m. Jan. 3 for driving under suspension near state routes 7 and 14.

— Kendall Lewis, of Columbiana, was arrested at 10:31 p.m. Dec. 29 on a warrant out of Stark County.

— City police are investigating a minor hit-skip crash shortly before 12:17 p.m. Dec. 29 at the intersection of state Routes 14 and 46.

Sheriff’s Office

— A man on Unity Line Road, Unity Township, reported at 4:26 p.m. Wednesday that per his bank, he put a check in the mailbox at the New Waterford Post Office, West Main Street, New Waterford, for $3,708 made out to Capital One and someone cashed the check at an unknown different bank.

— A woman on Unity Line Road, Unity Township, reported at 3:10 p.m. Wednesday that on Jan. 3, someone entered her unlocked shed and stole a chainsaw and multiple tools.

— A representative of Mahoning County Habitat for Humanity, Youngstown, requested a welfare check at 1:55 p.m. Wednesday on a man on Apples Way Drive, Fairfield Township. A staff member had gone to the residence and the man was not answering the door. A deputy spoke with the man, who was fine and said he would make contact with the staff member from Habitat for Humanity.

— A Metz Road, Fairfield Township resident reported at 6:43 p.m. Tuesday that her garage door keeps opening and closing on its own and she wanted the property checked. A deputy checked the property and had no contact with anyone. The garage motor was unplugged by the resident.

— A woman on East Fourth Street, East Liverpool reported at 3:32 p.m. Tuesday that she has a no contact order filed on her out of Columbiana County Municipal Court to have no contact with her ex-boyfriend in Wayne Township. She said her vehicle is parked on his property. She was advised to contact an attorney.

— A Knox Township resident on Case Road called at 2:17 p.m. Tuesday to report hearing a fully automatic rifle being fired in the area multiple times. A deputy checked the area, but didn’t find anything.

Salem

— Steve E. Johnson, 40, Salem, was charged with burglary, menacing and criminal damaging after officers responded to the 900 block of West Wilson Street at 1:13 a.m. Jan. 3 in which he allegedly broke the windshield of his ex-girlfriend’s vehicle and threatened to beat him up.

— Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 9:52 p.m. Jan. 2 where a complainant reported she left her purse in a shopping cart and found that it was gone when she returned to retrieve it. The complainant said she found her purse on a different road with everything inside except $600 cash.

— A North Madison Avenue resident reported at 6:50 p.m. Jan. 2 that she started her vehicle in her driveway and went back inside her home, then a short time late saw someone backing the vehicle out of the drive and travel north onto Roosevelt Avenue. Officers checked the area, but were unable to find the vehicle, which was ultimately entered into LEADS as stolen.

— Bianca Jane Miller, 61, Hampton Place, Salem, was cited for improper backing following a two-vehicle crash at East State Street and South Lincoln Avenue at 3:06 p.m. Jan. 2 in which she northbound and then turned out of the straight lane attempting a U-turn, striking a vehicle driven by Brenda L. Mitchell, 63, South Lincoln Avenue, Salem. No injuries were reported.

— A South Lincoln Avenue resident reported at 2:54 p.m. Jan. 2 that he had been scammed out of $400 that he had given to someone who had contacted him about a free laptop and he sent the money for the fees.

— Susan E. Hurd, 76, McClure Road, East Palestine, was cited for a stop sign violation following a two-vehicle crash at South Cunningham and Butcher roads at 2:20 p.m. Jan. 2 in which she had failed to stop for the stop sign, striking a vehicle driven by Doris C. Bailey, 90, South Lincoln Avenue, Salem. No injuries were reported.

— An officer responded to the 2400 block of East State Street at 2:18 p.m. Jan. 2 in reference to a two-vehicle crash on private property in which the caller reported being in the drive thru line of a business and being sideswiped by another vehicle. Both drivers claimed the other was at fault. The officer collected video footage from the business to determine who was at fault.

— An officer responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 11:47 a.m. Jan. 2 where a driver reported she was sitting in her vehicle when someone in another vehicle had backed up and struck her vehicle, then drove away. The complainant said there was no damage to her vehicle, but wanted a report on file.

— Isak A. Moalin, 42, Minneapolis, Minn., was cited for failure to yield from private property, following a two-vehicle crash at Benton Road and West State Street at 11:33 a.m. Jan. 2 in which he was attempting to pull out of a private drive and struck a legally stopped vehicle on the roadway.
