Sheriff Reports
— Deputies were dispatched at 8:05 p.m. Jan. 1 to a residence on Wells Hollow Road, Yellow Creek Township, regarding an alleged assault. Deputies spoke with both people involved and after a brief investigation, one of the people was taken into custody. Dale Kenneth Lefebvre, 55, Wells Hollow Road, Wellsville, was charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony, for allegedly grabbing a woman and throwing her at a coffee table after an argument, causing a deep cut to her forehead when her head hit the corner of the table. Lefebvre already appeared in Columbiana County Municipal Court, with a preliminary hearing set today.
Patrol
–Hunter Farnsworth, of Danbury Avenue in Wellsville, was not cited at 10:16 a.m. Dec. 14 as the result of a crash in Yellow Creek Township. He was southbound on state Route 45, when he went off the right side of the road and struck a tree.
–Timothy Fryfogle, of Canfield, was cited at 6:30 a.m. Dec. 15 in Middleton Township for failure to control, after his eastbound vehicle traveled off the right side of Pancake Clarkson Road and struck a mailbox.
–Marcus Kelly, of state Route 45 in Wellsville, was cited at 2:16 p.m. Dec. 15 in Madison Township, after his eastbound vehicle went off the right side of Cameron Road and struck a tree.
–Robert Morin, of state Route 39 in Wellsville, was not cited at 4:39 p.m. Dec. 15 in Madison Township, after his southbound vehicle went off the right side of Cameron Road and struck a ditch.
–David Yeaples, of state Route 17 in East Palestine, was not cited at 10:16 a.m. Dec. 15 in Unity Township, after his southbound vehicle hit a piece of concrete lying on state Route 170 while he was driving.
–Robert Brooks, of Monticello Place in East Liverpool, was cited at 12:32 p.m. Dec. 17 in Middleton Township, after he struck a vehicle driven by Kathleen Phillips, of Summit Drive in East Liverpool after crossing left of center on Sprucevale Road and struck a rock and mailbox before overturning.
–William Williams, of Newton Falls, was cited at 4:37 p.m. Dec. 16 for a left of center violation in Butler Township, after traveling over the center line and striking Marilyn Erio, of Depot Road in Lisbon, while traveling southbound on Depot Road.
–Daryl Hersh, of North Market Street, was cited at 3:16 p.m. Dec. 18 for failure to maintain an assured clear distance at 6:16 p.m. Dec. 18 in Unity Township, after rear-ending a vehicle driven by Dennis Massey, state Route14 in New Waterford when Massey stopped to make a left turn on state Route 14.
–Juanita Barber, of Sprucevale Road in East Liverpool, was cited for a left of center violation at 7:27 a.m. Dec. 24 in Middleton Township, after her vehicle traveled over the center line on Sprucevale Road and struck Erin Moeller, of North Yuma Trail in Negley.
— Dennis Sidwell, of Woodsdale Drive in Salem, was cited at 1:33 p.m. Dec. 23 for assured clear distance in Butler Township after rearending a vehicle by Ayden Bradley, of Camp Boulevard in Hanoverton, while southbound on Woodsdale.
–Jordan Palmer, of Christian Place in East Liverpool, was cited at 8:41 a.m. Dec. 22 in Middleton Township for failure to control, after he was northbound on Sprucevale Road, failed to negotiate a curve and went off the left side of the road before striking a concrete steps and mailbox.
–Matthew Kern, of state Route 344 in Leetonia, was cited at 7:22 p.m. Dec. 21 in Salem Township for failure to control, after his southbound vehicle went left of center and traveled off the left side of the Grafton Road before striking a mailbox and tree.
Leetonia
–An alarm drop was reported at 7:32 a.m. Jan. 4 . The building was secure.
–Police investigated an audible alarm drop at 9:09 a.m. Jan. 3 at Leetonia post office. A keyholder responded.
–An officer responded to Horizon Homes to speak with a patient, who was alleging that the facility had bed bugs. The woman had been diagnosed with several mental health illnesses and wanted to go somewhere else. She was informed that if she wanted to relocate that she needed to talk to her mother, who had guardianship over her.
–Officers referred an animal welfare complaint to the county’s humane agent, after investigating a complaint at an undisclosed address at 1:38 p.m. Jan. 4.
–Another alarm drop was reported at 2:39 a.m. Jan. 1 at the Shell gas station in the 300 block of Columbia. Everything appeared secure.
–Police responded to the OSI for an alarm drop at 10:52 a.m. Dec. 31. It appeared to have been triggered by a bird flying around inside, so an officer opened the window and the bird flew out.
Perry Township
— Kelly Robinson, 46, Newark, was cited for failure to yield after her westbound vehicle on Georgetown Road failed to stop at a stop sign and struck a vehicle driven by David Wasko, 72, Lisbon, causing it to strike a vehicle driven by Deborah Soltesz, 67, Minerva at 3:14 p.m. Saturday. The passenger of Wasko’s vehicle was transported to St. Elizabeth Main by Stat Medevac, and Biddle’s, Sinsley, and Kaiser Towing responded to remove the vehicles due to disabling damage.
— Officers responded to the Salem Security Storage at 9 p.m. Friday to assist a person who advised that they were inside the gated area and it wouldn’t let her out. When officers arrived, the caller was already outside the gate, which was still malfunctioning. The business was contacted and made aware.
— Officers on patrol in the area of Depot Road near Snyder Road located a man walking along the roadway at 12:15 a.m. Thursday. Officers provided them with a ride back to their residence.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of Georgetown Road at 12:05 a.m. Dec. 31 for a reported suspicious vehicle. Officers spoke with the man, who advised that he was seeing his girlfriend before heading to work.
— Officers responded to the area of East Pidgeon Road at 12:11 a.m. Dec. 30 for a reported suspicious person. Officers checked the area and surroundings but were unable to locate them.
— Officers responded to the 1000 block of Prospect Street at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 29 for questions regarding discharging a firearm in the township. Officers advised them of the proper safety precautions.
— Officers spoke to a woman by phone at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 29 for a reported civil issue. The caller advised officers that she and her husband were going through a divorce and that there is a court order stating that no property is to be taken from the residence. The caller advised that their husband hasn’t taken any property yet but has threatened to do so. Officers advised them that there would be a report on file.
— Officers responded to the area of East Pine Lake Road near North Lincoln Avenue at 7:23 a.m. Dec. 29 for a reported tree in the roadway. Officers stood by with traffic control until the fire department could remove the tree.
— Officers located a large tree down on Egypt Road near Painter Road at 6:30 a.m. Dec. 29. Officers were able to remove the tree.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of West Pidgeon Road at 5:39 a.m. Dec. 29 for a report of a transformer sparking. Officers were unable to locate it and advised the fire department.
— Officers on patrol in the area of Cunningham Road at 4:12 a.m. Dec. 29 located a tree blocking the southbound lane. Officers were able to remove the tree.
St. Clair Township
— A report was filed for damage to a vehicle in Giant Eagle parking lot on Dec. 29, after the vehicle was hit by the door to another vehicle when the door was caught by the wind.
— Officers checked a Glenn Street residence on Dec. 29 after a female called and said she was at the hospital and just given birth when a male known to her stole her key and left. The female said the male has never lived at that residence, but when officers ran his information, it came back to that address. The female also said the male told her he was at the residence and was going to burn it down. Officers checked the residence.
— An officer checked state Route 267 on Dec. 31 for an alarm drop and found the building secure.
— A driver was given a verbal warning following a Dec. 31 traffic stop on state Route 11 for no visible plate. During the traffic stop, the officer discovered a temporary tag in the rear window which was not visible due to the window being dirty.
Salem
— Officers responded to the 1300 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 4:02 a.m. Tuesday for a report of loud music coming from a motor vehicle. Officers spoke with both parties involved and found that one, Ashton Mitchell, Salem, had an active warrant out of Mahoning County. Mitchell was placed under arrest and transported to the police department where custody was transferred to the Goshen Police District.
— Officers on patrol in the area of Quaker Court and Salem Parkway at 2:25 a.m. Tuesday observed a suspicious vehicle parked near a closed industrial business. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and the driver, Clinton Scott III, advised they were out scrapping, and officers found his license to be suspended. Scott was issued a warning for trespassing and cited for driving under suspension.
— Officers assisted the Ohio State Highway Patrol with an OVI investigation at the police department at 11:41 p.m. Monday. Officers stood by while troopers provided the person in question with an opportunity to submit a breath test, which they did.
— Officers responded to the 1600 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 11:17 p.m. Monday for a report of domestic violence. Officers found that no violence had occurred and that there was only property damage. Both parties involved were intoxicated, and the fire department and EMT checked a cut on one person which was inflicted accidentally. One party left for the evening to avoid further issues.
— Officers responded to the 1100 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 7:06 p.m. Monday for a reported domestic dispute. Officers spoke with both parties involved, and the matter was resolved for the night.
— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 4:20 p.m. Monday regarding an issue with their communication devices. Officers provided them with contact information for another agency to remedy the issue.
— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 3:32 p.m. Monday for a reported civil matter. The caller advised that their wife, whom he is separated from but still legally married to, had his vehicle towed and will not tell him where it is. Officers advised them to contact an attorney as the matter was civil in nature.
— The school resource officer was advised of a custody issue which might cause problems at the end of the school day at 2:37 p.m. Monday. Officers determined that the parents were still married with no formal custody agreement, so both have the right to their children. Officers spoke with one parent who was advised that the issue was civil and not to involve the school in a personal dispute.
— The school resource officer was advised of a fight that occurred during class change which had been broken up by staff at 1:01 p.m. Monday. Both students advised that the fight was over an issue which had occurred during the Christmas break and rolled over into the return to class. The school issued punishment for the incident, and one parent advised that they wanted to file charges. All information was gathered, statement forms were given, and a medical release form was given to be signed.
— Officers responded to the 1000 block of Cleveland Street at 9:59 a.m. Monday for a parking complaint. Officers attempted contact unsuccessfully and will follow up at a later time.
— Officers responded to the 1900 block of East State Street at 12:04 a.m. Monday for a combative patient. Officers assisted EMT and later assisted the Salem Regional Medical Center with the patient.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of East Fourth Street at 7:23 p.m. Sunday for a reported neighbor dispute. The caller advised that a former friend had hit her in the shoulder with a box. No injuries were reported, and no marks could be observed. Officers spoke with the other party, who advised that there was a verbal dispute over a phone and she gave it back to the caller. Due to the stories, conflicting officers took statements from both and will forward the statements to the prosecutor’s office for review.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of South Broadway Avenue at 3:02 p.m. Sunday for a report of stolen services. The caller advised a neighbor has been dumping trash in their dumpster. Officers spoke with the neighbor, who came and retrieved the trash, and advised them of the possible consequences. The caller wanted two people from that address trespassed from the business, and officers will attempt to contact them.
— Officers responded with the fire department to the 1300 block of Fairview Avenue at 10:16 a.m. Sunday for a reported medical emergency. Officers stood by until they were no longer needed.
— Officers responded to the 700 block of East Fifth Street at 4:09 a.m. Sunday for a reported domestic. The caller advised that they had come to the residence to pick up their daughter, who had been assaulted by her boyfriend. Officers spoke with the daughter who advised that she and her boyfriend had gotten into a physical altercation after an argument and had sustained an injury to her mouth causing her lips to swell. The fire department and EMT responded to tend to them, and due to their intoxication, a follow-up investigation will be conducted.
— William I. Shasteen, 46, Walnut Street, Leetonia, was arrested on an active warrant out of Columbiana County for child neglect after officers responded to the 500 block of Walnut Street at 1:19 a.m. Jan. 4
— Officers responded to the 400 block of East Pershing Street at 9 p.m. Jan. 3 in reference to a fight and found several juveniles who were already separated. A group of juveniles said another juvenile had approached them trying to start a fight, at which time they walked outside to de-escalate the situation. All people were sent their separate way.
— Officers responded with medical personnel to the 800 block of East Third Street at 4:22 p.m. Jan. 3 in reference to man who needed to talk to someone due to things going on in his life. The man was voluntarily transported to the hospital for additional assistance.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of West Fifth Street at 12:36 p.m. Jan. 3 in reference to a dispute and found an intoxicated female presenting erratic behavior. Due to the behaviors present, the woman was transported to an appropriate medical facility for further evaluation.
— An officer responded to the 900 block of East Fifth Street at 10:43 a.m. Jan. 3 where a complainant reported his wife left a couple days prior with their child due to an argument and has not returned since. The complainant said he was concerned about the safety of his child. The officer attempted contact with via telephone with the wife, but did not get an answer. A bolo was sent to check on the well-being of the child.
