Sheriff Reports

–Deputies responded to a noise complaint reported at 12:09 a.m. Tuesday in the 11000 block of state Route 644, Hanover Township. The area was checked and deputies didn’t hear any of the reported noise.

— Deputies were dispatched at 11:53 p.m. Monday to an address on state Route 154, Elkrun Township due to some social media posts on a person’s pages. Deputies spoke with the person and their spouse at the home and explained the reason for the visit and reviewed the person’s social media with their permission. It was advised the person has a doctor’s appointment and will stay off of social media.

— A deputy at 4:42 p.m. Monday returned a call regarding lost property.

— A man on state Route 165, Unity Township reported at 9 p.m. Saturday that a vehicle pulled into his driveway and multiple people were screaming. While deputies were en route, he called back and said his roommate and another man were arguing with the driver. Deputies arrived and spoke with the driver, who was leaving, and all parties involved and learned the disagreement had been worked out.

— A deputy responded at 5:42 p.m. Oct. 1 to the Travelers Inn, state Route 45, Lisbon regarding suicidal threats. The person advised they were not suicidal and the deputy found the person in good health. Later in the day, the deputy responded again and the person had taken pills. EMS was notified, responded and took the person to the hospital.

— A civil matter was reported at 6:50 p.m. Sept. 30 on Hazel Run Road, Washington Township. Both parties came to an agreement.

Perry Township

–Officers responded with the fire department to the 1000 block of Jones Drive at 4:06 a.m. Monday for a medical call. Officers and the fire department assisted EMT until no longer needed.

–Officers responded to the 900 block of Newgarden Avenue at 9:17 p.m. Sunday for a report of a man threatening to harm himself by walking on the railroad tracks. The man was located inthe Salem Police Department’s Jurisdiction and officers stood by until they were transported.

–Officers responded to the 400 block of East Pidgeon Road at 2:57 p.m. Sunday for a report of a vehicle blocking the roadway. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle.

–Officers responded to the 1200 block of West Perry Street at 8:03 p.m. Saturday to assist the fire department with a medical call. Officers stood by until they were no longer needed.

–Officers responded to the 600 block of West Pigeon Road at 7:55 p.m. Saturday for a reported 911 hang up call. No contact could be made at the residence.

–Officers responded to the 800 block of Cunningham Road at 6:51 p.m. Saturday for a reported horse in the roadway. Officers were able to secure the horse and the owner was notified.

–Officers responded to the 900 block of Prospect Street at 5:12 p.m. Saturday for a wellness check. The man in question was transported to Alliance by EMT.

–Officers responded to the 700 block of West State Street at 3:44 p.m. Saturday to assist the Salem Police Department with a dispute involving a man who brandished a firearm before fleeing. Officers stood by until they were no longer needed.

–Officers responded to the 100 block of Plymouth Place at 8:41 a.m. Saturday for a reported 911 hang-up call. Officers spoke with a man who advised he called 911 because he thought his girlfriend was having a seizure and officers requested first responders be dispatched. The girlfriend refused to be transported to the hospital.

–Officers responded to the 1700 block of Depot Road at 12:58 p.m. Friday for a reported suspicious person. Several residents in the area have previously complained of a man with a known history of mental illness coming to their residence and leaving items including several books with handwritten notes on and in them. The man had placed a Marilyn Monroe photo book near the entrance of a residence, and officers informed him that the residence in question had now been added to a list of properties in the area he is not permitted on. the man advised that he understood and will not go over there again.

–Vanessa Sawman, 21, Salem, was cited for a marked lines violation after her eastbound vehicle on West State Street struck the side of a vehicle driven by Timothy McAllister, 65, Lisbon, while attempting to change lanes at 2:48 p.m. Thursday No injuries were reported.

–Officers responded to the 1700 block of Ansley Way at 10 a.m. Thursday for a reported missing person. The caller advised that their coworker had left their bed and breakfast at about 5 p.m. the day prior and never returned. It was eventually determined that the coworker had been arrested and was currently incarcerated at the Summit County Jail on charges of importuning and unlawful sexual contact with a minor.

–Officers responded to the 1200 block of East Pidgeon Road at 4:31 p.m. Oct. 1 for a reported dispute. When officers arrived, the involved parties were already separated and advised that they had been in a vehicle together when a verbal altercation turned physical. Neither party had injuries requiring medical attention and both advised they just wanted to go their separate ways and not pursue charges.

–Officers responded to the 1200 block of Stewart Road at 9:05 p.m. Sept. 30 for a report of fraud. The caller advised that she and her husband had noticed a large amount of money taken from their bank account and a check made out to an unknown person for $4,982. The caller advised that they needed a report for their bank.

–Officers responded to the 1800 block of state Route 344 at 12:25 p.m. Sept. 30 for a report of a suspicious person seen pacing in the caller’s yard on their security camera. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the person.

–Officers responded to the 400 block of Benton Road at 2:32 p.m. Sept. 29 for a medical call. Officers stood by until no longer needed.

Salem

— Rebecca Louise Chabo, no age or address listed, was cited for left of center following a two-vehicle crash at North Cunningham Avenue and Bentley Drive at 9:15 p.m. Saturday in which she traveled left of center and struck a passing vehicle. No injuries were reported.

— Officers responded to the 800 block of Newgarden Avenue at 7:43 p.m. Saturday where a resident reported someone overnight had cut the wire to his Halloween decoration, which had happened at a prior date and time. The complainant said he would fix the wire himself, but requested an extra patrol of the area.

— Officers responded to a 2800 block East State Street business at 5:27 p.m. Saturday in reference to a man who entered the store on two separate occasions and took merchandise without paying. Officers were provided security video in an attempt to identify the man in question.

— Officers responded to the 700 block of West State Street at 3:42 p.m. Saturday in reference to a report of a man with a gun. Officers determined it to be a verbal dispute and took statements from both people involved.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of Fair Avenue at 9:18 a.m. Saturday to check on the well-being of a resident with whose son had not had contact for over a week. The resident was transported by ambulance to the Salem hospital.

— Officers responded to the 700 block of South Broadway Avenue at 12:31 a.m. Saturday where the complainant said she was hiding behind a dumpster and afraid two other women were going to jump her. Officers found that it was an ongoing feud between the people involved and the complainant wanted the matter documented. Everyone was advised to stay away from each other and the complainant was told how to obtain a protection order.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of Vine Avenue at 10:38 p.m. Friday in reference to a civil standby for an individual who had reported on station threats of assault had been made by against him if he collects his belongings from the home. Officers stood by while the person collected his belongings and advised him how to get a protection order.

— An officer responded to the 2200 block of Southeast Boulevard at 5:32 p.m. Friday in reference to a juvenile who had jumped a fence and run away. The officer checked the area, but was unable to find the juvenile, who was entered into LEADS.

— Allen Scott Vancooney, 30, Franklin Avenue, Salem, was charged with theft after officers responded to the 2400 block of East State Street at 4:31 p.m. Friday where he allegedly stole $351.71 in merchandise and fled in a vehicle. Officers located the Vancooney in the 900 block of East State Street, conducted a traffic stop and took him into custody.

— An officer responded to the 2200 block of Southeast Boulevard at 3:58 p.m. Friday where a woman reported a nephew of whom she has custody three a cup at the wall while be watched by a babysitter and that she has started the process of pursuing unruly juvenile charges.

— An officer responded to the 400 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 3:47 p.m. Friday in reference to a domestic dispute regarding relationship issues and the complainant wanting the other person to leave the home. Both individuals were found to be residents of the home and officers were unable to make either leave willingly. The complaint agreed to leave for the weekend.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of Benton Road at 3:35 p.m. Friday in reference to a dispute regarding a someone having the someone else’s property. Officers stood by while the property was returned.

— Officers responded with the fire department to the 1500 block of Westview Drive at 3:30 p.m. Friday in reference to a natural death. Officers found the tenant to be deceased and stood by until a funeral home arrived on scene.

— An officer responded to the 200 block of East Second Street at 3:01 p.m. Friday in reference to a lawn care business using a leaf blower in the parking lot which was throwing debris onto vehicles. The officer spoke with an employee of the business who said they could complete the job at another time.

— An officer responded to the 1300 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 2:57 p.m. Friday where a resident reported having a stick on the inside of her window holding it shut the previous night, but she found the stick had fallen to the floor when she woke up and she was concerned someone may have tried to enter her home. The resident said all her doors were locked and window alarms working properly. The officer advised an extra watch would be placed in her area.

— A complainant reported on station at 2:13 p.m. Friday a sex offense that had occurred within the city approximately five years ago. The matter was forwarded to a detective.

— Officers responded to the 1200 block of South Ellsworth Avenue at 12:33 p.m. Friday where a complainant reported someone had broken into her storage shed and took several items.

— Officers responded to the 900 block of North Ellsworth Avenue at 4:56 a.m. Friday in reference to open burning with a lot of smoke at a home. Officers found someone burning trash in an unattended fire. The fire department responded to the extinguish the flames.

— An officer responded to the 200 block West State Street business at 5:48 p.m. Thursday in reference to a male customer who took a vehicle on a test drive and had not returned in the agreed upon time. Officers attempted to contact the customer by phone without success. Warren police were advised and responded to the customer’s home. The vehicle was located and towed back to the business. Charges are pending for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

— An officer responded to the 200 block of Continental Drive at 4:09 p.m. Thursday where a resident reported $108 was missing from atop their night stand.
