Sheriff’s Office

— Deputies were dispatched at 1:15 a.m. Aug. 9 for a person walking in the middle of the roadway on state Route 45 near U.S. Route 30. A man was located who said he was participating in the Buckeye 200 foot race and there were several others doing the same in the area. He said he was not the one deputies were looking for, however, the person they were seeking was transported by race officials due to medical reasons. The man was told he was free to continue.

Salem

— Officers responded to the 1100 block of Prospect Street at 12:42 a.m. Tuesday to assist Perry Township officers with a call. Officers assisted with clearing an apartment as there was believed to be another person hiding inside, with nobody located. Officers remained on scene until Sinsley’s Towing arrived, and two vehicles were removed from property and the complex manager’s request.

— Officers responded to the 1900 block of North Ellsworth Avenue at 11:52 p.m. Monday for a reported suspicious vehicle in the parking lot after hours. Officers spoke with them and verified everything was okay and advised them to head home for the night.

— Officers responded to the 600 block of Franklin Avenue at 10:49 p.m. Monday for a reported domestic in progress. Officers spoke with both parties and found that there was just an argument between the two and there had been no violence nor injury to either party and both parties advised that there was nothing wrong.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of West Fourth Street at 10:11 p.m. Monday for a wellness check. The caller advised that adults were using drugs around a small child and wanted a wellness check. Contact was made with the child’s mother who cooperated and showed officers that her son was fast asleep. There were no signs of drug use or abuse.

— Officers conducted a traffic stop in the 300 block of West State Street at7:57 p.m. Monday on a driver with an active warrant out of the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office. Contact was made with the driver, Amanda Hancock, 37, Salem, who was permitted to contact a family member to retrieve her small child and vehicle, and she was then taken into custody without incident.

— Officers responded to the 2500 block of Bentley Drive at 7:04 a.m. Monday for a reported incident between two residents. Officers collected information and documented the matter.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 4:16 p.m. Monday regarding a situation at her place of employment. Officers provided her with options for dealing with the situation.

— Officers responded to the 1000 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 1:09 p.m. Monday for a possible dispute. Officers were advised of a man and woman arguing by the side of the roadway. Officers checked the area and found that they had left prior to their arrival.

— Kenneth Morris, 83, Salem, was cited for failure to yield after his vehicle crossed in front of a vehicle driven by Lonnie Atkins Jr., 49, Salem, when pulling from a private lot causing it to be struck by Atkins’ vehicle in the 400 block of West State Street at 12:45 p.m. Monday. A passenger from Morris’ vehicle, Sondra Delmont, 84, Salem, was transported to the emergency room by EMT for possible injuries.

— Officers responded to the 1200 block of South Lundy Avenue at 11:12 a.m. Monday for a reported suspicious object. The caller advised that someone had left a cookie in her mailbox which she had already disposed of but wanted a report made.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of East Seventh Street at 11:04 a.m. Monday for a wellness check. The caller advised that her father did not go to work that day and she was concerned. Officers spoke with the man in question who advised that he misplaced his phone.

— Officers responded to the area of South Lincoln Avenue and Franklin Avenue at 10:43 a.m. Monday for a reported reckless driver. Officers checked the area but did not locate the vehicle.

— Officers responded to the 700 block of Superior Avenue at 9:20 a.m. Monday for a report of several 911 hang-up calls. Officers spoke with the resident and learned that a child had been playing with the phone and advised them of the complaint.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of West Fourth Street at 5:06 a.m. Monday for a reported assault. The caller advised that someone had accused him of stealing something and struck him with a flashlight. The man had a laceration on the back of his head that he was bleeding from and the fire department and EMT responded to assess him, ultimately transporting him to the Salem Regional Medical Center. He was advised to return after he was cleared from the hospital to give a written statement.

— Officers responded to the 900 block of East Third Street at 12:54 a.m. Monday for a reported dispute. The caller advised that his roommate was being loud when he is trying to sleep and will not be quiet. Officers spoke with both parties and advised them to keep everything civil and stay away from each other for the night.

— Officers responded to the 1800 block of Maple Street at 12:05 a.m. Monday for a reported domestic in progress. Officers spoke with the parties involved and determined that the dispute was verbal only and nothing physical had taken place. Officers advised them to try and stay separate for the night.

— Nathaniel Brendlinger, 20, Salem, turned himself in for an active warrant out of the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office at the police department at 10:06 p.m. Sunday. Bendinger was transported to the Columbiana County Jail.
