Perry Township
–While responding to a prior call in the 1100 block of West Perry Street at 6:03 p.m. Sunday officers were advised of possible stolen items. Officers followed up with the agency investigating the thefts responded back to recover the items and returned them to the property owners.
–Officers responded to the 1100 block of Prospect Street at 2:15 a.m. Sunday for a reported suspicious vehicle. Officers checked the area but was unable to locate the vehicle in question.
–Officers responded to the 500 block of Maryland Avenue for a reported assault. Officers were advised that Donnie Mergenthaler, 26, Salem, had allegedly struck, pushed, and slammed two victims and ran from the area. Officers were able to locate him and transported him to the Columbiana County Jail Charged with assault and domestic violence.
–Officers responded to the 200 block of East Third Street at 12:24 a.m. Sunday to assist the Salem Police Department with searching a residence that appeared to have had entry forced through the basement door.
–Officers responded to the 800 block of Lundy Avenue at 9 p.m. Sunday to assist with multiple people inside and abandoned structure. Officers stood by until no longer needed.
–Officers conducted a traffic stop in the 500 block of West Pigeon Road at 8:08 a.m. Saturday on a vehicle with fictitious plates and found the driver Tyler Warner, 34, Sebring, was suspended. A Salem K-9 officers responded and conducted an open-air sniff of the vehicle which alerted to the presence of narcotic odor in the vehicle. During the search of the vehicle drug paraphernalia was located and Warner was arrested and transported to the Columbiana County Jail.
–Officers responded to the 1200 block of Depot Road at 2:02 p.m. Saturday for a report of theft. The caller advised that they had video footage of his neighbor entering his property and removing the wood that marked his driveway. Officers spoke with the neighbor who advised that the wood was on his property line. The investigation is pending.
–Officers responded to the 1100 block of West Perry Street at 1:27 p.m. Friday for a report of threat being made to the caller by a known man. The caller advised that a known man keeps contacting her and making threats. The caller was advised to email any messages to officers and the matter is under investigation.
–Officer responded to the 1500 block of Manor Drive at 12:37 p.m. Friday for a call of a homeowner who locked themselves out of the house. Officers were able to assist the homeowner on gaining entry to the home.
–Officers responded to the 1700 block of Hearthside Drive at 7 :40 p.m. Thursday for a report of a possible structure fire. Officers spoke with the neighbors who had extinguished the fire with a garden hose and the fire department arrived and took control of the incident. Officers stood by to assist as needed.
–Officers responded to the 1000 block of West Perry Street at 2:46 a.m. Thursday for a reported person to be removed. Officers were advised by two women that Paris Hartsoe, 20, Canton, had allegedly grabbed and thrown one of them to the floor and was threatening to fight the other while chasing her down the street and fled the area when officers arrived. Paris was located and transported to the Columbiana County Jail charged with aggravated menacing and assault.
–Officers on patrol in the area of Depot Road near Snyder Road at 2 a.m. Thursday located a man in the roadway who appeared to be overdosing. Officers contacted the Salem Police Department and EMT responded to transport the man to the hospital.
Salem
–Officers responded with the fire department to the 400 block of Continental Drive at 2:28 p.m. Friday for a reported medical emergency. Officers spoke with the woman in question who was eventually transported by ambulance for evaluation.
–Officers responded to the 800 block of East Fifth Street at 1:27 p.m. Friday for a report of identity theft. Officers spoke with the caller who advised that an unknown person had opened a bank account in his name without his knowledge or permission. Officers advised the caller of the options for dealing with the situation.
–Officers responded to the 2500 block of Lexington Avenue at 1:05 p.m. Friday for a report of theft. The caller advised that someone had used his social Security number and provided officers with account information and when the card was used. Investigation is pending.
–Officers responded to the 2200 block of Southeast Boulevard at 12:44 p.m. Friday for a reported runaway juvenile. Officers checked the area for the juvenile but were unable to locate him. The guardian responded to the police department to fill out the missing juvenile form and the juvenile was entered into LEADS.
— Officers responded to the 1300 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 11:59 p.m. Monday for a wellness check. Officers located a person outside who advised their dog had activated the alarm and due to comments made relating to trouble breathing the fire department was requested to respond.
— Officers responded to the 800 block of East School Street at 9:16 p.m. Monday for a report of suspicious activity. A vehicle was observed driving in circles in the parking lot when another vehicle stopped to talk to the driver. Officers advised them of park hours and they left.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of West Fifth Street at 8:48 p.m. Monday for a report of a small child showing up to the caller’s residence. The caller advised that the child had come to their residence and was playing in the yard with no parents around. Officers located the child’s parents in the 300 block of West Fifth and the mother came and picked up the child.
— Officers responded to the area of Continental Drive at 8:20 p.m. Monday for a reported suspicious person. Officers located the person, who lived in the area, and was just walking around reading a book.
— Officers responded to several locations in the city at 7:40 p.m. Monday to check for people with warrants out of the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office. Officers were unable to contact any of the people in question.
— Jack Pasco, 75, Salem, was cited for reasonable control after his westbound vehicle on East Third Street struck a parked vehicle owned by Brianne Frank, Salem, at 7:09 p.m. Monday. No injuries were reported.
— Officers spoke to a person by phone at 6:05 p.m. Monday for a report of identity theft. The caller advised that his Experian account had sent him an unknown notification and they wanted a report on file in case there was any unusual activity on his account in the future. Officers advised that a report would be on file.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of Granite Avenue at 5:24 p.m. Monday for a report of threats. The caller advised that a man was making threats toward them. Officers gave them the statement form to complete and the matter is under investigation.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of Granite Avenue at 4:36 p.m. Monday for a report of trespassing on a condemned property. Officers spoke with the person and advised them they could get some of their personal belongings but then they needed to leave.
— Officers responded to the 2100 block of Monroe Street at 4:19 p.m. Monday for a report of a woman screaming. Officers located the apartment and spoke with a woman who was upset that her phone had stopped working, but advised that she was okay.
— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 4:07 p.m. Monday regarding an incident which possibly occurred in Perry Township. Due to an ongoing investigation with the people involved officers advised them that an incident would be sent to Child Protective Services for review but that for an actual incident report they would need to contact the Perry Township Police Department.
— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 3:43 p.m. Monday regarding an incident that occurred the day prior. They advised that while attempting to move the belongings out of a shared household with their spouse a TV was pushed, hitting them in the stomach, and a juvenile was then shoved and hadn’t been reported to police. However, due to being unable to enter the residence that day to gather their belongings they now wanted to report it. Officers advised them of their options.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of Woodland Avenue at 3:04 p.m. Monday to check for a man with an active warrant out of the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office. Officers were able to contact the man, Robert Mack, 46, Salem, taking him into custody and transporting him to the Columbiana County Jail.
— Officers responded to the 600 block of East Fourth Street at 2:43 p.m. Monday for a report of a child being left unattended. Officers attempted contact at the door but were unable to contact the residents and officers spoke to several neighbors who advised that they observed the juveniles outside earlier in the day then the two parents left in a vehicle without the juvenile. Officers advised a neighbor to call them when the parents returned home.
— Officers responded to the 800 block of Morris Avenue at 2:32 p.m. Monday for a wellness check on a woman who had reportedly made comments of possible self harm over text messages. Officers checked the residence and it was discovered that the woman had moved. Due to being unable to contact officers a BOLO was sent to area departments to check on the woman if seen.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of South Broadway Avenue at 1:17 p.m. Monday for a report of telecommunications harassment. The caller advised that the person had a bond agreement that they were not to contact any employee from the establishment but they had been receiving calls and texts from them from various numbers and social media accounts non-stop for a week. Officers advised the caller that they would need to contact the courts for the bond agreement violation and advised them of their options.
— Officers responded to the 1300 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 11:58 a.m. Monday for a speak with officer report. Officers spoke with the caller who was the on-site manager who located a marijuana plant growing in a pot on the front porch of a residence. The plant was taken by the manager and turned over to the police to be destroyed.
— Officers responded to the area of West Pershing Street and Dodge Drive at 11:14 a.m. Monday for a report of a case of empty beer cans found in the roadway. An officers responded and disposed of the cans.
— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 10:30 a.m. Monday for a reported civil matter. Officers were advised that the caller bought and paid for a vehicle from another individual a few weeks ago and the title signed and notarized at the seller’s request before the vehicle was moved from their property. However, the seller was now asking for more money and threatening the caller to go to the police and take him to court. Officers advised that a police report would be made.
St. Clair Township
–An officer responded to a panic alarm on July 26 at the Hidden Haven Salon where he spoke to a female who said she accidently hit the wrong button.
–A driver was issued a verbal warning on July 26 for not having a driver’s license. He told the officer he did not know his license was not valid. The officer allowed the passenger to drive the vehicle after verifying she had a valid license.
–A warrant was issued for Anthony Greathouse (age and address not provided) for felony theft for a value of $1,000 or more on July 27 after officers viewed him on surveillance video walk out of Busy Beaver with a cart full of tools and miscellaneous items valued at $1,176.86 without paying for the items.
–Officers removed a branch from the roadway after responding to Calcutta Smith Ferry Road on July 27 for a report of a possible tree down.
–A driver was issued a warning for having a tinted plate covering obstructing the view of the plate following a July 28 traffic stop on state Route 170.
–Officers responded to the 16000 block of Martha Street on July 28 after receiving an anonymous call for a welfare check with a possible domestic situation going on. Officers spoke with the resident who said the subject of the welfare check had taken their daughter to cheer practice. Officers noted everything inside the residence appeared to be in order.
–Officers checked around a Kelly Avenue residence on July 28 after a resident said someone was looking in her window. Officers told the residence they did not find anyone but would do extra checks in the area and to call back if there were any more issues.
–Officers dispatched to Midland Fredericktown Road on July 28 for a tractor trailer blocking traffic after going under the trestle and stopping at the bridge that crosses Beaver Creek. Officers noted the driver ignored several signs posting weight and height limits before going the hill and a sign that said no turnaround after a point. The driver blocked traffic for approximately 45 minutes while he emptied his clean water load so he could turn around without causing damage to the roadway or vehicle.
