Sheriff’s Office

— A caller at 12:15 a.m. Saturday reported they let their daughter use their vehicle to take a family member home and two hours later she had not returned with the vehicle. The caller was told there may have been circumstances that prevented the return and to call back in the morning if the car isn’t returned.

— A deputy was dispatched at 9:06 p.m. Aug. 5 to U.S. Route 62, Butler Township for a domestic violence report. A refusal was signed by both parties involved.

— A 911 hangup call was reported at 8:25 p.m. Aug. 5 on Main Street, Hanover Township where a deputy spoke with the homeowner and learned the number that called 911 did not belong to anyone at the residence and there was no problem.

Salem

–Officers spoke to a person in the 300 block of East Second Street at 2:23 a.m. Monday who was wanted from a previous incident report where a charge was issued.

–Officers on patrol in the 300 block of West Second Street at 12:35 a.m. Monday stopped a person operating a scooter with no lights in the roadway who had previously been advised to stay away from the location of a previous incident. The man, Thomas Welsh Jr., 40, Salem, was found to have been served with a protection order and was with the protected persons. Welsh was later arrested charged with violating a protection order.

–Officers responded to the 200 block of West Fifth Street at 7:48 p.m. Sunday for a reported barking dog. Officers advised the owner to take the dog in for the night.

–Officers responded to the 1400 block of Oak Street at 7:07 p.m. Sunday for a reported 911-hang-up-call. Officers checked the area and no issue nor people requiring assistance were located.

–Officers responded to the 100 block of West Fourth Street at 6:57 p.m. Sunday for a report of residents having issues with their neighbor. The resident advised that there was a dispute with the neighbor after juveniles were in the residents yard. Officers advised all parties involved to stay away from each other and out of each other’s property.

–Officers responded to the 1100 block of West Perry Street at 6 p.m. Sunday to assist the Perry Township Police Department with an incident. Property stolen from within the city was located on scene and Perry Township Officers were advised that the owner was home to return the property.

–Officers responded to the 500 block of East Fourth Street at 3:54 p.m. Sunday for a speak with officer report. The caller advised that they were receiving unwanted calls from a known person. The person was contacted by phone and advised to stop calling them.

–Officers responded to the 1100 block of Benton Road at 10:27 a.m. Sunday for a medical call. Officers were advised that the person in question was making suicidal remarks and their physician was admitting them to the hospital for evaluation. EMT arrived and officers assisted until no longer needed.

–Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 7:17 a.m. Sunday about photographs of juveniles found at the track. They advised that the photographs contained images of children and wanted to turn them over to the police. Officers reviewed the photographs and found that none were explicit in nature.

–Officers responded to the 200 block of West Fifth Street at 6:53 a.m. Sunday for a reported barking dog. Officers checked but did not hear any dogs barking in the neighborhood.

–Officers responded to Sebo Stadium at 2:53 a.m. Sunday for a report of suspicious people. Officers spoke with them about the stadium hours and were advised they were just going for a night run.

–Officers on patrol in the 200 block of East Third Street at 12:09 a.m. Sunday located an abandoned apartment with forced entry to the exterior door and interior door. Officers checked the residence with K-9 Chaz and nobody was located. However, it was obvious that someone had recently been in the residence and squatting there. Officers will attempt to contact the owner of the property to try and secure it.

–Officers responded to the 300 block of East Sixth Street at 11:59 p.m. Saturday for a report of menacing. The caller advised a man was banging on his side door demanding to speak to his roommate and had threatened to assault him before fleeing when advised that the roommate was not home and to leave. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the man.

–Officers on patrol in the area of Centennial Park checked on a suspicious vehicle at 11:45 p.m. Saturday. Officers advised the occupants to move along as the park was closed.

–Officers responded to the 400 block of East Seventh Street at 10:25 p.m. Saturday for a reported menacing complaint. The caller was being sent non-threatening messages by an ex through mutual friends. They were advised to block all contact with the woman and not respond back to her.

–Officers responded to the 500 block of Continental Drive at 10:13 p.m. Saturday for a report of a person knocking on doors. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate anything unusual.

–Officers responded to the 800 block of South Lundy Avenue at 8:52 p.m. Saturday for a trespass complaint. The caller advised that the saw flashlights in a vacant building and thought people had broken in again. Entry was made and a woman was detained, but officers were unable to locate the second person who fled out of a side doorway. Contact was made with the property owners who advised that they would not seek trespass charges.

–Officers responded to the 400 block of Centennial Park at 6:38 p.m. Saturday for a reported civil matter. The property owner wanted a vehicle removed from their property and did not have a phone. They requested the next company on rotation be called to remove the vehicle.

–Officers responded to Centennial Park at 6:26 p.m. Saturday for a medical call. Officers stood by until no longer needed.

–Officers responded to the 900 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 6:17 p.m. Saturday to assist the fire department and EMS with a medical call. Officers assisted until no longer needed.

–Officers responded to the 300 block of North Madison Avenue at 5:07 p.m. Saturday for a possible domestic in progress. The caller advised that the other party had threatened her and taken her phone when she tried to call 911. Officers located the person in question, Justin Derringer, 27, Salem, who was taken into custody charged with domestic violence, criminal trespass, and disrupting public services and transported to the Columbiana County Jail.

–Officers observed a person on the rooftop of a business they were not authorized to be on. Officers spoke to the person and advised them to stay off the property.

–Officers responded to the 1500 block of East Third Street at 8:09 a.m. Saturday for a wellness check. The caller advised that there was a woman walking on the sidewalk acting strange. Officer spoke with the woman who advised she was fine.

–Officers responded to the 300 block of North Madison Avenue at 6:12 a.m. Saturday for a reported suspicious person. Officers located the person in question laying naked in a yard. Officers called first responders and an ambulance and the man was transported to the emergency room for evaluation. Charges are pending.

–Officers responded to the 300 block of North Madison Avenue at 5:17 a.m. Saturday for a reported person yelling. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate any type of disturbance.
