Perry Township
— Officers responded to the 1100 block of Liberty Street at 4:12 p.m. Tuesday to assist the fire department with traffic control during a fire. Officers assisted until no longer needed.
— Officers responded to the area of Fillmore Avenue at 3:38 p.m. Tuesday for a reported golf cart complaint. Officers checked the area but did not locate a gold cart in the roadway.
— Officers responded to the 1000 block of Liberty Street at 7:54 p.m. Monday for a wellness check. Officers spoke with the person in question who advised that everything was okay.
— Officers responded to the U.S. Route 62 dead end at 12:43 p.m. Monday for a reported single-vehicle crash. Investigation showed that the vehicle drove off the roadway at the dead-end and backed into the tree line. The driver, Carl Apicella, 64, Salem, was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital by Stat Medivac and the vehicle was removed by Sinsley’s Towing. The matter remains under investigation at this time.
— Officers responded to the 1700 block of Goshen Road at 12:11 a.m. Monday for a report of a possible person on the caller’s property. Officers were unable to locate anyone in the area.
— Officers responded to the area of Carey Road near state Route 9 for a single-vehicle accident at 5:10 p.m. Sunday. The vehicle attempted to miss another vehicle in their lane causing them to run off the roadway. Officers stood by until the Ohio State Highway Patrol arrived.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of West 14th Street at 1:25 p.m. Sunday for a report of trespassing. The caller advised that his neighbor backed his trailer into his driveway and pulled out and that this was an ongoing issue, and officers have previously instructed the neighbor to stay off the property. Officers spoke with the neighbor who advised that he did back the trailer into the driveway to turn around but didn’t think it was an issue. A statement and a copy of the video were requested and will be turned over when finished.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of East Pine Lake Road at 9:06 p.m. June 20 for a reported cow in the roadway. When officers arrived, the cow was already back in the pasture and the owner advised they were going to repair the fence next week.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of West 14th Street at 2:40 p.m. June 20 for a reported parking complaint. The caller advised that there has been an ongoing issue with his neighbor parking on his property. Officers spoke with the neighbor, advising him of the complaint and of possible charges if he parks or goes onto the caller’s property again.
— Officers responded to the area of West Pidgeon Road and state Route 45 at 1:57 p.m. June 20 to assist with traffic control while two trees were being cut down and removed from the roadway.
— Officers responded to the 800 block of Cunningham Road at 10:25 a.m. June 20 for a reported 911 hang-up call. Officers spoke with the man in question who advised that everything was okay, and the call was accidental.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of Aetna Street at 1:25 a.m. June 20 for a reported domestic where the male half had made possible threats regarding a firearm. Officers stood by until they were no longer needed.
— Officers responded to the 1100 block of Benton Road at 9:38 a.m. June 19 for a wellness check. Officers spoke with the owner of the company, who advised that the person in question did not work for them.
— Officers responded to the 700 block of Georgetown Road at 7:01 p.m. June 18 for a reported branch in the roadway. Officers were able to remove the branch.
— Officers responded to the 1100 block of Prospect Street at 3:02 a.m. June 18 for a report of threats with a firearm. Officers took Brandon Hacker, 32, East Palestine, into custody charged with aggravated menacing, drug paraphernalia, and possessing weapons under disability.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of West Pine Lake Road at 12:02 a.m. June 18 for a reported domestic dispute. Officers were advised that the altercation had turned physical and Justin Davis, 40, Salem, was taken into custody charged with domestic violence and strangulation and transported to the Columbiana County Jail.
— Officers responded to the 2100 block of North Ellsworth Avenue at 11:08 p.m. June 17 regarding an incident earlier in the evening. Officers advised them of their options.
— Officers responded to the 1600 block of Van Buren Avenue at 10:11 p.m. June 17 to assist the fire department with an open burn complaint. Officers stood by to assist until no longer needed.
— Officers responded to the area of Crybaby Bridge at 9:51 a.m. June 16 for a report of a suspicious person in a red truck with a shotgun and a cage. Officers checked the area but did not locate the vehicle.
Salem
–Officers responded to the 110 block of Liberty Street at 4:08 p.m. Tuesday for a reported structure fire. Officers assisted the Perry Township and Salem Fire Department by shutting down the roadway. Officers assisted until no longer needed.
–Officers responded to the 400 block of North Ellsworth Avenue at 3:12 p.m. Tuesday for a reported parking complaint. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle in question.
–Officers responded to the 500 block of Newgarden Avenue at 2:08 p.m. Tuesday for a reported suspicious person. The person officers checked on was offered a ride by their significant other.
–Officers responded to the area of South Lincoln Avenue and East Pershing Street at 10:13 a.m. Tuesday for a reported road rage incident. The caller advised that a vehicle was following her from South Lincoln Avenue until she pulled into the police department, when it continued past and left the area. Officers checked the area for the vehicle but were unable to locate it.
–Officers responded to the 100 block of North Broadway Avenue at 8:20 a.m. Tuesday for a reported open-door complaint. Officers checked the exterior of the building and found all doors to be closed and locked.
–Officers responded to the 1200 block of Mound Street at 7:42 a.m. Tuesday for a wellness check. The caller advised that she was receiving concerning texts from a person and wanted them checked on. Officers were unable to contact the person in question.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 1:07 a.m. Thursday for a report of suspicious activity. The caller advised that two men wearing ski masks were in the store. Officers identified them, finding that one of them was only 17 years old and was out past curfew, and that he was intoxicated and in possession of alcohol. The juvenile was taken into custody and transported to the police department and was later released to his guardian’s custody. The matter will be forwarded to the city’s juvenile officer for charges through the juvenile court.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 7:18 p.m. Wednesday for a wellness check. The caller advised that she had nearly struck a woman walking in the road. Officers spoke with the woman in question who advised that they were okay and were just crossing the street.
— Officers responded to the 1900 block of East State Street at 6:38 p.m. Wednesday for a report of harassment. The caller was unable to provide a name or description of the person in question and was advised to contact the department if the problem continues.
— Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 6:10 p.m. Wednesday for a reported theft. When they arrived officers met with asset protection, who had detained a woman, and advised that they were skip scanning items in the amount of $229.44 and attempted to leave the store without paying. Due to children being involved charges will be sent to the court to issue a summons for the woman for theft.
— Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 5:17 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a dog inside a vehicle. Officers located the owner and found that the vehicle was an automatic start that was supposed to be left on but was accidentally shut off. At the time of the incident, the dog did not appear to be in distress. The owner was advised of the dangers of leaving the dog in the car.
— Officers responded to the area of Park Avenue and Oak Street at 4:25 p.m. Wednesday for a reported tree in the roadway. Officers checked the area but did not locate any trees or branches in the roadway.
— Officers responded to the 600 block of Prospect Street at 3:28 p.m. Wednesday for a reported domestic dispute. It was discovered that the incident was occurring outside the city and the appropriate jurisdiction was contacted.
— Officers on patrol in the area of South Lincoln Avenue at 2:02 p.m. Wednesday for a reported dog at large. Officers were able to locate the owners, and the dog was obtained.
— Officers responded to the 1100 block of East Sixth Street at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday for a report of suspicious activity. The caller advised that two people were sitting in a vehicle for a long time and they were worried due to the weather conditions. Officers spoke with them and discovered they were having car troubles and had someone on the way to look at the issue with the vehicle.
— Officers responded to the 600 block of East Perry Street at 12:44 p.m. Wednesday for a report of lines down. Officers found a branch had damaged cable lines, and the fire department responded and removed the lines.
— Officers responded to the area of North Broadway Avenue and East State Street at 10:47 a.m. Wednesday for a reported parking complaint. The caller advised a vehicle was parked on the roadway blocking the flow of traffic. Officers checked the area, but the vehicle left prior to officers’ arrival.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of East Fourth Street at 10:38 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a woman with an active warrant out of the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office. Officers were unable to locate the woman.
— Officers responded to the 1300 block of East State Street at 8:48 a.m. Wednesday for a report of menacing. Officers spoke with the caller regarding a concerning phone call they received the night before.
