Sheriff’s Office

— Deputies responded at 12:01 a.m. Sunday to the area of Carmel Achor Road for a noise complaint, but found nothing.

— A Middleton Township man reported a custody issue at 10:45 p.m. Saturday, saying his son was with his mother for supervised visitation and they went to the East Palestine Street Fair, but then were back at the residence, also in Middleton Township. He was told to contact an attorney.

— A person was reported on the side of the road having medical issues in the 2900 block of Woodsdale Road, Butler Township. Winona EMS transported the person to Salem Regional Medical Center.

— A woman on East Liverpool Road, Madison Township reported at 9:16 p.m. Saturday that her dogs were barking and she believed someone may be outside the residence. Deputies and K-9 Diva checked the property with no contact with anyone.

— A woman in West Township reported at 7:53 p.m. Saturday that her 15-year-old grandson was receiving phone calls from a restricted number and was being harassed by unknown people.

— Personnel from Dollar General, U.S. Route 62, Knox Township reported at 6:15 p.m. Saturday that there was a female who exited the store without paying for multiple unknown items on May 21, with the incident captured on video surveillance inside and outside the store.

— A juvenile around 10 years old was reported in the road on Depot Road at state Route 172, Center Township at 3:42 p.m. Saturday, but was not found when a deputy checked the area.

— A domestic dispute was reported at 2:50 a.m. Saturday at a property on U.S. Route 30, Hanover Township. A refusal to prosecute was signed and one of the parties was given a courtesy ride to Salem.

— A caller at 12:48 a.m. Saturday reported a vehicle parked by her residence on private property in Madison Township with music playing. Deputies spoke with a man from Rogers. No music was playing and he was waiting for someone to come and pick him up.

— A juvenile-related incident was reported at 10:40 p.m. May 23 on state Route 14 in Unity Township. Deputies spoke to all parties involved and found everything to be in good order.

— Personnel at Dollar General, U.S. Route 62, Butler Township, in Damascus called at 7:05 a.m. May 23 that a suspicious person was in and out of the store possibly in some type of distress, then left on a bicycle. Deputies checked the area, but did not find the person. Goshen Police District spoke with the person at Damascus Post Office and the person was fine.

— Deputies were dispatched at 5:27 p.m. May 23 to U.S. Route 30, Hanover Township, for a domestic violence report. A refusal was signed.

— Deputies were dispatched at 9:57 p.m. May 22 to Maple Drive, Fairfield Township, for a domestic violence report. A refusal was signed.

— A man on state Route 154, Middleton Township reported at 7:10 p.m. May 22 that multiple tools were stolen from inside his detached garage and vehicle.

— A woman on Old Irondale Road, Yellow Creek Township, reported at 6:58 p.m. May 22 that her neighbor’s cows were loose on her property. Dispatch spoke with the owner, who said he would get his cows.

— An alarm was reported at 5:48 p.m. May 22 on Sherwood Road, Yellow Creek Township. A deputy found all doors and windows secure.

— A man on Lake Point Drive, Knox Township, called at 7:30 a.m. May 22 to request a deputy respond to his residence due to his 11-year-old son, who would not get out of bed for school. He and his son were en route to school when a deputy arrived.

— Smith Township Police Department in Mahoning County requested assistance at 7:06 p.m. May 21 with a disturbance at the West Branch school board meeting at West Branch High School, Beloit. Upon arrival, the meeting was over and people were leaving in their vehicles. Sebring police were also on scene.

— A standby was requested by Portage County Child Protective Services at a Knox Township residence for an interview with a juvenile and their guardian at 4:55 p.m. May 21.

— Deputies were dispatched at 8:20 p.m. May 17 to Desellem Road, Madison Township, for threats toward juveniles riding dirt bikes. A man covered in blood who had a severe laceration across his right eyebrow said he attempted to get a another man into a residence after the other man said he was going to shoot those kids riding the dirt bikes, but then he was struck by something. The other man, David Brewer, 70, Desellem Road, had his case bound over to the Columbiana County grand jury for felonious assault and menacing.

— Loud music was reported at 1:16 a.m. May 17 in the area of Carmel Achor Road, Middleton Township, but deputies didn’t locate any noise. They made contact with the supposed violators who were advised this will become a citation if the loud music continues after midnight and they needed to stop. The report said they were unhappy that deputies were there because they had turned the music down earlier. The subjects were Amish and advised once they become members of the church they will no longer have music playing from a speaker. They were told they’ll be cited if found causing a disturbance again. The address was issued citations last year.

— Deputies were called at 12:20 a.m. May 17 to an address on Y Camp Road, Madison Township for one to be removed. He wanted his ex-girlfriend removed due to her arriving and him having other company. Deputies spoke to both parties and the female left on her own accord. Both were told they may want to cut ties and end the relationship.

— Deputies were called at 6:31 a.m. May 15 for a suspicious vehicle at Taco Bell, state Route 45, Lisbon, arriving and waking a man asleep in the back seat. He said he traveled a long distance and had a meeting early in the morning and did not want to waste money on a hotel and decided to sleep in his vehicle. He was checked for warrants and was free to leave.

— A woman at 2:14 p.m. May 11 reported her boyfriend took her cell phone, social security card and birth certificate at a Unity Township property, but he denied possessing any of the items.

Perry Township

— Officers responded to the 1600 block of Van Buren Avenue at 9:40 p.m. Friday for a reported animal complaint. Officers spoke with the owner of the dog and advised her that the dog could not run loose in the neighborhood. The owner was also advised that if the dog got loose again, she would be charged.

— Officers responded to the 1700 block of Harding Avenue at 4:05 p.m. Friday for a reported animal complaint. The caller advised that the neighbor’s dog was surrounding their car, and his wife was unable to get out of the vehicle. The neighbor, Kacey Rohaley, 56, Salem, has been previously warned to keep the dog on her property and was cited for the same issues on May 13, and was cited for dog at large again.

— Officers responded to the 1700 block of West State Street at 6:57 a.m. Friday for a reported vehicle on fire. Officers found the vehicle to be fully engulfed when they arrived, and the caller advised that they were traveling eastbound on U.S. Route 62 when he noticed smoke coming from his vehicle and pulled into the parking lot and jumped out just before the vehicle became fully engulfed. The Perry Township Fire Department extinguished the vehicle, and Kaiser Towing removed the vehicle.

— Officers responded to the 1700 block of Harding Avenue for a reported assault. Officers spoke with both parties who advised that they had pushed each other and put each other into a headlock. Officers found no signs of any marks nor any type of injury. Officers warned both parties to desist in their disorderly conduct, or charges could follow.

Salem

— Officers responded to the 400 block of East Euclid Street at 1:36 a.m. Tuesday for a report of child abuse occurring in Alliance. Officers collected information about the matter and the caller was advised that the juvenile staying with them is living in an abusive household and that the mother had showed up to collect the child but left after they refused to go with them. The juvenile already had permission from their legal guardian to stay there and did not demand them to leave, and officers advised the caller that they would need to contact the Alliance Police Department to inform them of the matter. The caller advised that they were already aware, but she would file an additional report. The caller was also advised to avoid any conflict and that if the guardian demands the juvenile leave, they must comply and to contact officers if there were any issues during the exchange.

— Officers conducted a traffic stop on East State Street at 12:08 a.m. Tuesday on a vehicle with a defective taillight. Officers collected information from the driver, and K-9 Fero responded to conduct an open-air sniff and gave a positive alert from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle was conducted, and no contraband was located. The driver was issued a warning for defective taillight.

— Officers responded to the 800 block of East Third Street at 10 p.m. Monday for a report of criminal damaging. The caller advised that a rock had been thrown through the back windshield of a vehicle. Officers collected information from the caller and the witnesses did not have a clear description of the person and said that they had not been having issues with anyone. The matter will be investigated further.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 8:12 p.m. Monday to check for a man with a warrant out of Columbiana County. Officers located the man and detained him; however, due to medical issues the sheriff’s office advised officers to release the man.

— Officers responded to the 1600 block of East State Street at 5:29 p.m. Monday for a report of a small child near the roadway. Officers spoke with the child’s mother who advised they were helping a family member move when the child went through an open door and outside without their knowledge. Officers advised them of the complaint.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of Aetna Street at 5:27 p.m. Monday for a reported dispute. The caller advised that he got into a verbal argument with his mother and she locked him out of the residence. Officers spoke with the mother who did not want them back in the residence, and the mother was advised of the eviction process.

— Officers spoke with a person in the 600 block of Continental Drive at 4:58 p.m. Monday about a reported neighbor issue. Officers advised the caller of their options for dealing with the issue.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 4:26 p.m. Monday for a reported person to be removed. Officers located the person in question and spoke with them and were advised that they were no longer welcome at the business and would need to leave or be arrested. Officers issued the man a trespass notice and left the area.

— Officers responded to the first block of Prospect Street at 3:36 p.m. Monday for a report of dirt bikes in the roadway. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate it.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 12:54 p.m. Monday for a reported domestic dispute. The caller advised that she had been in a verbal dispute with her boyfriend and that he had dumped a drink on her before leaving the residence. The caller was given options for dealing with the situation.

— Officers responded to the 300 block of Roosevelt Avenue at 12:49 p.m. Monday for an unknown issue. It was determined to only be a medical issue.

— Officers responded to the 1000 block of East Third Street at 12:38 p.m. Monday for a reported open burning complaint. Officers spoke with the homeowner and advised them of the open burning laws.

— Officers responded to the 1900 block of East State Street at 5:56 a.m. Monday for a reported person to be removed. Officers located the person in question advising him that he was not welcome on the property, and he left the area without incident.

— Officers responded to the 800 block of Granite Avenue at 11:26 p.m. Sunday for a reported barking dog. Officers checked the area but did not hear a barking dog.

— Officers responded to the 1900 block of East State Street at 11:01 p.m. Sunday for a wellness check. The caller advised that a juvenile was walking on the road and yelling. Officers spoke with the juvenile who advised that he was okay, and he transported to his grandmother’s house.

— Officers were flagged down in the 100 block of South Ellsworth Avenue at 10:14 p.m. Sunday by a caller who advised that a man walked past him yelling and possibly made a threat. Officers located a juvenile male down the road and advised him of the complaint and not to make threats toward people. The juvenile’s mother was later advised.
