Sheriff’s Office
— A deputy on patrol at 12:38 a.m. Thursday found the front entry door to the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center and interior door both open. The janitorial staff was advised and said it must have been an accident. The deputy secured the doors.
— A Kayann Lane, Unity Township, resident reported her neighbor had been trespassing on her property and dumping grass clippings. Deputies spoke with the neighbor who said it will not happen again.
Columbiana
— William Tondo, of Salem, was arrested at 10:42 p.m. April 18 on an outstanding warrant from Youngstown police following a traffic stop on state Route 14.
— Officers took a suspected scam report on station at 2:29 p.m. April 16.
— Jeremy Colbetzor, no address listed, was cited at 9:49 a.m. April 16 for driving under suspension and expired registration following a traffic stop near the intersections of Salem and Old North streets.
— Residents of Court Street came on station to make a theft report at 6:15 p.m. April 15.
— Officers responded at 4:10 a.m. April 15 to the Southern Terrace Mobile Home Park, where a Dodge Grand Caravan backing out struck the driver side of a city ambulance with her rear wheelchair lift, causing damage to the ambulance. Information was gathered for the report.
— Police responded at 6:24 p.m. April 14 to Wind Rose Apartments for a criminal trespass complaint.
— John Miller, no address listed, was arrested at 7:58 p.m. April 13 on charges of OVI and operating a vehicle impaired during a traffic stop at East Park and Highland Avenues.
— Police responded at 8:43 a.m. April 13 to investigate vandalism at the South Main Street city restrooms.
Leetonia
— Police responded at 9 p.m. April 24 to the 100 block of Walnut Street to a parking complaint. Upon arrival, the vehicle had already been relocated.
— Dispatch notified police at 12:52 p.m. April 23 of a 2-year-old child having a seizure in the 300 block of Waddell Street. While en route, the officer was informed that the child had come out of the seizure and was breathing. Upon the officer’s arrival, Leetonia EMS was loading the child for transport and he was no longer needed.
— Police cited both motorcycle drivers at 8:22 p.m. April 20 as a result of a traffic stop near Old 344 and Washington St. The officers observed both speeding, going 45 and 42 mph, respectively, in a 25 mph zone when he initiated a traffic stop. The first driver, Phillip Coggins, had a valid motorcycle endorsement with seven prior convictions, five of which were for speed. The second driver, a juvenile, had no motorcycle endorsement and was unable to produce valid insurance. As a result the second motorcycle was towed. Coggins was charged on scene for speeding 45/25. The juvenile was cited for the lack of a motorcycle endorsement and speed 42/25.
— Police responded at 10:17 p.m. April 21 to the 200 block of Main Street for a suspicious person call. Upon arrival, the complainant didn’t recognize a man sleeping in a car. After identifying the man, his mother came out and explained h had just worked 16 hours and was probably very tired. She woke him without incident and got him inside.
— Police were called at 1:07 p.m. April 24 to the 700 block of Columbia Street, where fire and EMS had been called for a motorcycle engulfed in flames in the driveway. The owner had been concerned about a possible explosion. Marlboro Towing assisted with blocking traffic while firefighters extinguished the vehicle. Marlboro Towing then towed the motorcycle to their yard and all units cleared.
Salem
— Officers responded to the 700 block of South Lundy Avenue at 4:46 a.m. Thursday for a report of a person running in a resident’s yard and causing an issue. Officers spoke with the residents, who provided footage of the event and advised officers that it has been an ongoing issue including harassment via text messages and various other forms of harassment by the person in question. Officers collected information and filled out a criminal trespass form for the person in question and advised the resident that a protection order needed to be obtained through the courts.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 11:07 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a disturbed person in the parking lot requesting medical assistance. The fire department and EMT were requested to respond to the scene and after several minutes of speaking with them officers were able to get them to voluntarily be transported to Alliance Community Hospital by EMT.
— Officers responded to the 1900 block of Whinnery Road at 9:29 p.m. Wednesday for a reported juvenile complaint. The caller advised that she has been having an ongoing issue with their juvenile not listening and pushing and hitting people. Officers advised the juvenile is already on through the Columbiana County Juvenile Court. The juvenile was not present during the complaint and the caller was advised to contact officers if they’d like them to speak with them.
— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 6:01 p.m. Wednesday for a reported juvenile complaint. The caller advised that two juveniles had attempted climbing the roof of the nearby pavilion next to the playground at Centennial Park and were tossing around books at the nearby library box. Officers drove through the park but were unable to locate any juveniles fitting their descriptions and the pavilion was clear and the library box undamaged.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of South Ellsworth Avenue at 4:53 p.m. Wednesday for a wellness check on a person walking. Officers located the person in question and spoke with them and found that they needed assistance. Officers provided them with a courtesy transport to the police department and due to their condition officers had first responders and an ambulance respond to check on them and they were subsequently transported to the emergency room by ambulance.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 4:42 p.m. Wednesday to assist the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force. The person in question was taken into custody and $160 was seized as evidence.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of West Fifth Street at 3:31 p.m. Wednesday for a reported medical emergency. Officers located the man and had them checked by EMS. The man denied any medical attention.
— Officers spoke to a person by phone at 1:17 p.m. Wednesday regarding threatening messages from a person they knew. They advised that the incident had occurred over her paying for a tattoo and then not getting it. The caller advised that she had wanted a refund and that the person stated they would not give the money back. Officers advised the caller of their options for dealing with the situation.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of West Second Street at 12:41 p.m. Wednesday for a reported theft. The caller advised that his vehicle was at the location for the past six months and when he came to pick it up that day the catalytic converter was gone. They were given a report number and advised of their options.
— Officers responded to the 2100 block of Monroe Street at 12:13 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a person bleeding from the head and acting erratically. Officers locate the person in question who admitted to taking narcotics. The man was transport to the emergency room by ambulance.
— Officers responded to the 1200 block of East Sixth Street at 10:49 a.m. Wednesday to assist the school resource officer with a suspicious person. The caller advised that there was a man sitting on a bike staring at the school. Officers spoke with the man who advised he was waiting for someone to leave the school, and the school resource officer advised them to leave the area.
— Officers responded to the 700 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 9:53 a.m. Wednesday for a reported civil matter. The caller advised that last fall a dump truck delivering dirt to the high school had damaged her yard. The yard was fixed by the school, but the trucks are starting to deliver dirt again and the same issue is happening. Officers shared the information with the school resource officer due to administrators being in a meeting.
— Officers responded to the 900 block of East Third Street at 8:39 p.m. Wednesday for a speak with officer report. Officers spoke with the caller who advised that a relative had a set of keys to her residence and was refusing to return them. Officers were able to contact the relative, who advised that they did not have the keys.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of South Ellsworth Avenue at 4:07 p.m. Wednesday to check on a person in the parking lot of a closed business. The person advised they had been drowsy and stopped to rest.
— Officers on patrol in the area of South Broadway Avenue and East State Street at 2:31 a.m. Wednesday observed a man walking shirtless with the majority of his back being covered with blood and severe lacerations. Officers spoke with the man who appeared to be intoxicated and advised that he had crashed a four-wheeler at his grandmother’s house outside the city. The fire department and EMT were requested to the scene, and he was transported to the Salem Regional Medical Center for treatment.
