Highway Patrol
-- Charlene Steen, of Beloit, was cited at 5:34 p.m. April 16 in Butler Township for failure to maintain an assured clear distance after rearending a vehicle driven by Michael Hollar, of Louisville, while traveling eastbound on U.S. Route 62 and forcing him into the back of Sarah Miller, of Damascus.

-- An officer investigated an alarm drop at 1:22 a.m. April 15 at the Leetonia Community Public Library.
-- Dispatch sent an officer to the 400 block of Pearl Street for a burning complaint at 8:30 p.m. April 17.
-- Police responded at 1:35 a.m. April 18 to an alarm drop in the 400 block of Walnut Street.
-- The village had fielded a call at 3:36 p.m. April 17 regarding a tree that had fallen on the caller's truck in the 300 block of Columbia Street and was blocking the alley. Damage to the vehicle was minimal.
-- Evan Gamble, no address listed, was cited at 5:43 a.m. April 18 for driving under suspension and going 64 mph in a 50-mph zone coming around the bend of state Route 344.
-- Occupants of an outdoor party at 12:42 a.m. April 19 were warned about being too loud.
-- An officer investigated a burning complaint at 10:12 p.m. April 18 in the first block of Pine Street.
-- A truck near the corner of Washington Street and Butcher Road held up traffic at 6:54 p.m. April 18 while attempting to repair a mailbox. He was advised that he would need to find another way to do the repair rather than blocking traffic.
East Palestine
-- Officers responded at 10:12 p.m. to North Market Street to a civil matter involving a man and woman returning each other's property. Officers stood by while the exchange was made without incident.
-- Officers responded to a report of a low hanging cable in the roadway on West Main Street at 10:12 a.m. on Tuesday. Officers were unable to make contact with the cable company and the wire was cut and removed.
-- Officers responded to a report of a business owner on Park Avenue catching two males attempting to steal a transmission from his property at 2:01 p.m. on Tuesday. He later caught them attempting to load an asphalt roller onto their truck. Officers located the vehicle, but the property owner declined to prosecute.
Salem
-- Officers responded to the 400 block of North Madison Avenue at 10:16 p.m. Sunday for a reported domestic in progress. Officers spoke with the resident and found that the dispute was verbal only.
-- Officers responded to the 1300 block of Ridgewood Drive at 9:21 p.m. Sunday for a reported parking complaint. Officers advised the caller that all the vehicles were legally parked and that there were no parking violations.
-- Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 8:14 p.m. Sunday to assist the fire department with a dumpster fire at the rear of a business. Officers spoke with a person parked in the rear who advised that he did not notice anyone in the area prior to the fire starting. Dispatch checked security footage but were unable to see the dumpster. The fire was extinguished without issue.
-- Officers responded to the 400 block of South Ellsworth Avenue at 12:24 p.m. Sunday for a reported domestic dispute. Officers spoke with the person involved and determined the matter to be a verbal dispute over family issues. Officers advised all parties of the options for dealing with the situation.
-- Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 12:21 p.m. Sunday for a report of possible drug paraphernalia. The caller advised that she located a bag of an unknown white substance in the store. The bag was collected and brought back to the police department and determined not to be narcotics and disposed of.
-- Officers responded to the 1000 block of East Twelfth Street at 11:53 a.m. Sunday for a reported 911 hang-up call. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the source of the call.
-- Officers responded to the 200 block of South Broadway Avenue at 10:29 a.m. Sunday for a reported animal complaint. The caller advised there was a coyote in the parking lot. Officers found it to be a dog, and due to it having an injury it was transported to the dog pound.
-- Officers responded to the area of South Lincoln Avenue at 9:20 a.m. Sunday for a reported animal complaint. The caller advised that there was a possible coyoted walking down the street. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the animal in question.
-- Officers responded to the 700 block of West State Street at 4:17 a.m. Sunday for a report by a concerned customer that there was nobody in the store to speak to. Officers spoke with the clerk who advised that they were in the restroom while the caller was there.
-- Officers assisted Perry Township officers with an OVI test at the police department at 3:20 a.m. Sunday.
-- Officers responded to the 100 block of West Eighth Street at 3:02 a.m. Sunday for a reported neighborhood dispute over a driveway. Officers spoke with the caller and the other neighbors involved and resolved the issue, advising them to contact officers if there were any further issues.
-- Officers on patrol in the 500 block of South Broadway Avenue at 2:25 a.m. Sunday observed a vehicle operating in a reckless manner in a parking lot and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver, Sean Alvarez, 31, New Waterford, was cited for reckless operation and was given a ride to his residence at his request.
-- Officers responded to the 600 block of Cedar Street at 10:38 p.m. Saturday for a report of a vehicle speeding in the neighborhood. The caller advised that the neighbor on the west end of the street was driving erratically past his home at a high rate of speed. He was advised that officers would make frequent passes through the area to keep an eye on traffic. Contact was made with the neighbor who advised the matter was an ongoing issue with the neighbor despite them not speeding. They advised they would continue to drive slowly and avoid contact with the caller.
-- Officers responded to the 200 block of East Second Street at 10:16 p.m. Saturday for a report of a suspicious person. Officers checked the area and the business and everything checked okay.
-- Officers responded to the 600 block of East Perry Street at 10:01 p.m. Saturday for a reported custody issue. It was determined that nothing had occurred in the city and that the reported information had already been documented by other agencies.
-- Officers responded to the area of West School Street and East Fifth Street at 9:49 p.m. Saturday for a reported fight. Officers located the people in question who were relatives and admitted to the altercation but there were no marks to indicate so on either person and neither party was cooperative. Officers advised them to stay away from each other for the night, and one was returning to their residence resolving the matter for the evening.
-- Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 9 p.m. Saturday for a reported fight. The caller advised that a road rage incident had led to a vehicle following him into the lot at Walmart. Both parties confronted each other, and officers were called before another incident occurred. All parties were separated and after it was determined no threats or physical harm occurred, they were advised to go their own separate ways.
-- Officers responded to the 100 block of East State Street at 7:36 p.m. Saturday to assist the fire department with two people who had fallen.
-- Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of North Lincoln Avenue at 7:20 p.m. Saturday that was driving erratically to keep up with an ambulance transporting a relative. Officers advised them to drive safely so they did not cause an accident.
-- Officers on patrol in the area of North Howard Avenue conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation at 6:47 p.m. Saturday. During the stop K-9 Chaz was deployed and alerted to the presence of narcotic odor. The driver was issued a written warning for the violation.
-- Officers responded to the 700 block of Jennings Avenue and West Seventh Street at 4:10 p.m. Saturday for a report of a person with a possible warrant. Officers checked the area but did not locate anyone.
-- Officers responded to the 1900 block of Merle Road at 12:50 p.m. Saturday for a report of a large bonfire. The fire was located behind a residence and the fire department advised the homeowner of the city ordinance and burn ban.
-- Officers responded to the 600 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 5:09 a.m. Saturday for a reported medical issue. Officers found that everything was okay.
-- Officers responded to the 500 block of Woodland Avenue at 2:04 a.m. Saturday for a wellness check. The caller advised her ex-boyfriend had contacted her by text stating he was going to kill himself. Contact was made with the person in question at their home and their father, both of whom had been sleeping. He advised that he did not want to harm or kill himself and that he had not told his ex that he did. He was advised to contact officers if he did have feelings of self-harm in the future and he and his father agreed to do so.
-- Officers responded to the 900 block of East Fifth Street at 12:59 a.m. Saturday for a reported noise complaint. Officers spoke with the homeowner and advised them to turn the music down, which they did without issue.
-- Officers responded to the 1400 block of East State Street at 12:10 a.m. Saturday for a reported domestic dispute. The caller advised that she and her brother had gotten into an argument regarding money and his possible drug use and during the argument had gotten into each other's faces. The caller advised that she had smacked her brother who then grabbed her around the waist and shoved her, causing her to fall to the ground before leaving the residence. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the brother, and photos were taken of scrapes on the caller's hands, knees, and elbows, and a statement was collected. Officers will attempt to collect a statement from the brother if he returned and the caller advised that while she was not interested in charges would contact officers if her brother returned and began causing issues again. The status of the case will be referred for review by the prosecutor's office.
-- Officers responded to the area of Centennial Park at 11:50 p.m. Friday for vehicles in the park after hours. Contact was made with both a man and woman who advised they had been out for dinner and the woman was dropping the man off at his vehicle. They were advised park hours ended at 10 p.m. and moved on without issue.
-- Officers responded to the 700 block of North Ellsworth Avenue at 10:57 p.m. Friday for a reported suspicious person. The caller advised that juveniles were sneaking around their home and possibly peeking in windows. Officers searched the area for several minutes but were unable to locate anyone fitting their description.
-- Officers responded to the 2300 block of Lexington Avenue at 10:30 p.m. Friday for a reported reckless operator. Officers located both vehicles in question, advising them of the complaint.
-- Officers responded to the 200 block of South Howard Avenue at 9:42 p.m. Friday for a report of some sort of disturbance. Officers found that it was just the residents playing with their kids.
-- Officers responded to the 900 block of Morris Avenue at 8:33 p.m. Friday for a reported custody dispute. Officers spoke with the caller and the juvenile's mother, and the juvenile was returned to the mother.
-- Officers responded to the area of North Cunningham Road and Bentley Drive at 8:17 p.m. Friday for a reported brush fire. Officers provided traffic control until no longer needed.
-- Officers responded to the 300 block of rose Avenue at 7:17 p.m. Friday for a report of a suspicious person inside a multiple tenant parking garage. Officers spoke with the person in question who was resting due to stomach pains. They went inside the residence for the time being to keep the peace and prevent issues with other tenants.
-- Officers responded with the fire department to the area of Bentley Drive at 5:25 p.m. Friday for a reported brush fire. Officers provided traffic control until the fire was extinguished.
-- Officers responded to the police department at 5:24 p.m. Friday for a reported custody dispute. The caller advised that the mother of his child did not follow the court order regarding his weekend visitation. Officers explained that the issue was civil, but they would attempt contact with the mother. The mother advised she was choosing not to turn over the child at this time and the caller was advised and provided with a report number for reference.
-- Officers on patrol in the 100 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 1:51 p.m. Friday heard an unknown person yelling profanity. Officers located a male juvenile who advised that he had been involved in a dispute with two other juveniles who had walked away. Officers spoke with the juvenile who advised several different versions of what had occurred. Officers were unable to locate the other parties.
-- Officers responded to the 2200 block of Southeast Boulevard at 2 p.m. Friday for a reported suspicious person. The caller advised that an unknown man had attempted to get into her screened porch where they were sitting and left when she yelled at them. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate them and an extra watch was requested. The caller was also advised to contact officers if they returned.
-- Officers responded to the 300 block of Newgarden Avenue at 10:21 a.m. Friday for a reported juvenile problem. The caller advised that while driving they saw an approximately 2-year-old in the roadway and stopped to care for the juvenile until officers could locate their residence. The grandmother advised that she had seen the juvenile go upstairs and was unsure how or when they had left the residence. Contact was made with the child's mother by phone who advised she dropped her child off to got to an appointment and was coming to pick them up. All parties were advised that the incident would be forwarded to children's protective services.
