Sheriff's Office
-- A woman on Butcher Road, Salem Township, reported at 8:38 p.m. Thursday that her neighbor's juvenile son came onto her property and stole her chicken and damaged the fence. She said she got the chicken back, but the fence was still damaged. A deputy spoke with the neighbor and his 16-year-old son and the neighbor said he will fix the fence.
-- Deputies were dispatched at 5:54 p.m. Thursday to Steubenville Pike Road, Center Township, for an unwanted person. Carter Hollinger, 24, Enon Valley, Pa., was charged with aggravated menacing and criminal trespass and taken to the county jail. According to county Municipal Court records, he's set to face a pretrial April 28 for allegedly trespassing at a woman's property in Center Township and threatening to smash her with a hammer for calling law enforcement on April 17.
-- A residential alarm was reported at 3:37 a.m. Thursday on Clewell Drive, Hanover Township. A deputy checked the structure from ground level and found it secure.
-- A Louisville woman called at 9:36 p.m. Wednesday to request a welfare check on her grandfather on U.S. Route 30, West Township, due to him not answering his phone all day. A deputy responded and spoke with him, learning his phone was not working. The deputy advised the woman.
-- A woman on Woodsdale Road, Hanover Township, reported at 9:29 p.m. Wednesday that someone was shining a flashlight into her back door window. A deputy checked the property and area, but didn't find anyone.
-- A deputy was dispatched at 6:59 p.m. Wednesday to Metz Road, Fairfield Township for a 911 hangup call. The homeowner said everything was fine.
-- A suspicious person was reported going from residence to residence knocking on doors at 4:19 p.m. Tuesday on Claire Drive, Center Township. Deputies checked the area, but didn't find anyone.
Salem
-- Officers responded to the 1300 block of Fairview Avenue at 7:46 p.m. Wednesday for a juvenile issue. The juvenile had fled the residence for a second time since officers responded earlier in the evening. The juvenile was located in the 1900 block of Southeast Boulevard and returned home to both caregivers.
-- Officers responded to the 1700 block of Fairview Avenue at 7:07 p.m. for a reported domestic in progress. Officers spoke with both parties, collecting information and determined the male half, David Stewart, 39, s, was the primary aggressor and taking him into custody charged with domestic violence. Stewart was transported to the police department for processing then to the Columbiana County Jail.
-- Officers responded to the 1300 block of Fairview Avenue at 6:02 p.m. Tuesday for a reported runaway juvenile. Officers located the juvenile and returned them to the residence.
-- Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 5:24 p.m. Tuesday who advised that their sister had threatened her. Officers advised them of their options for dealing with the situation.
-- Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 3:54 p.m. Tuesday to assist the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force. The man in question was taken into custody without incident. The woman in question was found to be a victim of human trafficking and was provided help through peer support. The man was transported to the Columbiana County Jail by OSP.
-- Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 3:14 p.m. Tuesday who advised that his vehicle had been broken into while he was parked behind a business in the 300 block of East State Street on Sunday. Officers will review security footage from several businesses.
-- Officers spoke to a person by phone at 1:55 p.m. Tuesday regarding a situation concerning her adult sister. Officers advised them of the options for dealing with the situation.
-- Officers responded to the 200 block of Vine Avenue at 10:36 a.m. Tuesday for a reported domestic in progress. Officers were advised that a verbal argument had turned physical causing injuries to both parties. Both parties, Akayla Poteet, 21, and Tyler Anthony, 24, both of Salem, were taken into custody charged with domestic violence and transported to the police department for processing where photos and statements were taken from both and they were transported to the Columbiana County Jail. Due to the presence of a juvenile in the residence a family member was contacted to come and get the child.
-- Officers on patrol in the 2100 block of Southeast Boulevard at 9:16 a.m. Tuesday observed an illegally parked vehicle. Officers contacted the owner and the vehicle was moved.
St. Clair Township
-- An officer used a patrol rifle to put down an injured deer on Sidehill Road on April 4. A caller had reported they hit the deer but did not need a police report, but wanted to notify them of the deer needing put down.
-- A verbal warning was issued to a male driver following an April 5 traffic stop on state Route 170 for no taillights.
-- Officers were requested by the sheriff's office after Josh Gallimore (age and address not provided) fled on foot after being detained for a protection order violation on April 5. Gallimore ran on foot while handcuffed through the roads. Officers went to last known location of the deputies to assist them. Deputies advised they had him in custody but couldn't make it up the steep hillside with him. West Point Fire and other rescue crews assisted getting the deputies and Gallimore, who was considered a fugitive, up the hill. Officers stood by with the unsecured sheriff's office vehicles because Gallimore's mother and brother were acting abnormally by the vehicles. One deputy sustained a leg injury. Gallimore was checked out by EMTs before being transported to the county jail.
-- Officers responded to Planet Fitness on April 5 for a silent hold up alarm. When they arrived, they found the business closed but the front door open with no one inside. After officers checked the building, a key holder secured the door and reset the alarm.
-- Officers advised an employee to call dispatch if he knows that an alarm is going off after responding to business on state Route 170 on April 6 for an alarm. The employee said he was new and didn't get the code entered fast enough.
-- Officers found at building on state Route 170 to be secure after responding on April 7 to and alarm.
-- Officers had North Star EMTs check a male who said a female was trying to poison him when they responded to a disturbance call on April 7 on state Route 170. Medics cleared the male.
-- Officer told a caller that they checked the area and found no one located near her Y&O residence after she reported someone trying to get in through a window on April 8. Officers said they would keep extra checks of her residence and the area.
-- Officers were not able to put down an injured chicken after responding to a call about the chicken on April 8 on Calcutta Smith Ferry Road. Officers contacted ODNR after attempting to find who owned the chicken and was told since the chicken was domesticated and could be someone's pet, they could not put it down.
-- Officers advised a female to stay away from a Poplar Street residence after the resident called dispatch and said the person was not wanted there. The female said she just wanted her kids' backpacks. The officer advised if she went to the residence she could face charges.
