Sheriff’s Office
— Deputies were dispatched at 11:49 p.m. Saturday to Timber Run Street, Unity Township, for a possible disturbance called in by a neighbor. Deputies made contact with a small group of people having a social gathering and advised them of the complaint. Everybody at the gathering appeared to be untroubled. Deputies then left.
— Deputies were called at 3:42 a.m. Saturday to Auburn Skilled Nursing, Valley Road, Salem, in reference to an aggressive patient that needed to go to the hospital. A deputy spoke to the nursing staff who advised that a patient was yelling and attempting to destroy items in the building. As the deputy entered the dining hall, the patient was seated on a wheelchair and appeared to be calm and not in a right state of mind. EMS arrived and transported the patient to Alliance Community Hospital with no further issues.
— A juvenile-related report was reported at 3:54 p.m. Friday at McGeehan Road, Wayne Township.
— Deputies responded at 8:57 p.m. Thursday to the emergency room of Salem Regional Medical Center, East State Street, Salem, to assist Salem police officers with a person in custody who was being combative and was ready for transport to jail. Deputies put a belly chain and leg irons on Seaton Ruffner, 41, East Fifth Street, Salem and followed the Salem unit that was transporting him to the county jail without incident. According to county Municipal Court records, Ruffner was charged with fourth-degree felonies of strangulation and domestic violence, fifth-degree felony vandalism and misdemeanor domestic violence for allegedly choking another man from behind, causing him to not be able to breath for a few moments during a domestic on April 10 in Salem. The victim had physical injury to the neck area and was transported to Salem Regional Medical Center. Ruffner was also accused of allegedly damaging the rear window of a police cruiser by kicking it after his arrest.
— A woman on Glasgow Road, Madison Township, reported at 7:09 p.m. Thursday that her neighbors were cutting down trees in her woods and do not have permission to do so.
— A man from Leslie Road, Madison Township reported at 9:17 p.m. April 9 that he’s out of state and wanted a welfare check on his wife and four children, he was unable to reach them by phone. A deputy spoke with the woman, who was sleeping, and the children were also. She said everything was fine and she called the man.
— A woman from Water Street, Salineville called at 8:55 p.m. April 9 to request a welfare check on her steps, who lives with his mother and stepfather, state Route 164, Washington Township. A deputy spoke with the mother, stepfather and child who were fine.
— A deputy stood by at 8:42 p.m. April 9 while Lisbon police officers were on a traffic stop on state Route 154 at state Route 11 southbound on the ramp. Narcotics were found in possession of the passenger.
— A deputy was dispatched at 6:32 p.m. April 9 to Churchill Road, Elkrun Township, for an open 911 line. A deputy spoke with the homeowner, who said it was accidental. The same deputy was dispatched at 4:55 p.m. April 9 to Mill Street, Rogers for an open 911 line, and was told to disregard while en route. The homeowner said his children were playing with the phone.
— A West Township resident on Rochester Road reported an unwanted person at his residence at 6:08 p.m. April 8. James W. Yacobucci, Canton, was taken into custody on an active warrant out of Carroll County and turned over to a Carroll County sheriff’s deputy.
— A juvenile-related report was taken at 11 p.m. April 5 on Kirk Road, Fairfield Township, with the report sent to child protective services.
— On April 12, a warrant was issued out of county Municipal Court for an Alliance man on a fifth-degree felony charge of tampering with traffic control device. Deputies had assisted Alliance police officer attempting to stop the man’s vehicle after it entered the county limits on March 22. Alliance police officers had the man in custody with the vehicle in a field at Westville Lake Road at Buck Road in Knox Township.

— Officers responded at 1:05 p.m. on April 13 to West Washington Street for a domestic dispute. It was found to be verbal and both parties separated.
— Officers responded at 2:23 p.m. on April 12 to the area of East Lincoln Way near Smith Oil for a male subject in his underwear. The male was located and advised to return to his residence and get a belt.
— Officers were contacted on April 11 at 9:56 p.m. about a potential harassment claim that occurred at East of Chicago. Officers spoke to the reporting party who stated that they wanted to file a report.
— Officers responded at 10:15 p.m. on April 10 to Caldwell Street for a property damage report. Officers found tire marks in the grass.
–Officers responded at 3:51 p.m. on April 10 to South Jefferson Street for an alarm drop. The home was found to be secure.
— Officers responded at 11:59 p.m. on April 10 to Saltwell Road to locate a black Subaru Impreza that was believed to be stolen. Officers were unable to locate the car.
— Officers responded at 5:04 p.m. on April 10 Green Tree Place for a man that had severe stomach pain. Officers helped North Star load the male into the ambulance.
— Officers responded at 12:14 a.m. on April 10 to Huntington Bank to a report that a passerby had seen an older model car parked in front of the bank and saw its occupants go inside. Officers determined they were a cleaning crew.
— Officers responded at 5:46 p.m. on April 9 to Lincole Place for a report of an alarm. Officers checked the building and found it to be secure.
— Officers responded at 4:28 p.m. on April 9 to the 100 block of Sherman Street for a medical. Officers stood by until North Star EMS transported.
— Officers responded to a lock out on Vista Drive at 2:29 p.m. on April 9.
— Officers conducted a welfare check at 8:34 p.m on April 7 on North Beaver Street. Officers were unable to make contact with the subject.
— Officers responded at 2:57 p.m. on April 7 to Sherman Street for a hit and run that had occurred overnight. Minor damage to a vehicle was observed.
— Officers responded at 4:44 a.m. on April 6 to Pritchard Avenue for an elderly female that had fallen and could not get back up. Officers arrived and helped the Lisbon Fire Department and North Star get the female into the ambulance.
— Officers responded at 11:31 p.m. on April 6 to an alarm drop at South Jefferson St. Upon arrival, officers found all doors were locked and there was no movement inside the building.
— Officers while on patrol on April 6 at 2:04 a.m. located Larry Andrews of Akron trespassing/sleeping outside of a business on East Lincoln Way. Andrews was given a verbal warning.
– Officer at 6:24 p.m. on April 6 of South Lincoln Avenue for a medical call. Officers stayed with the patient until the arrival of EMS personnel.
— K-9 officers responded at 10:24 p.m. on April 5 to the area of Mattix Road near Steubenville Pike to assist troopers on a traffic stop with narcotics detection. Conclusion of the assist located narcotics after canine Otis was deployed and alerted to narcotics odor.
— Officers responded at 10:54 p.m. on April 4 to the area of South Street and Grant Street to assist the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office with a male subject who fled from a traffic stop on foot. K-9 units tracked the subject into the woods, leading to the arrest of Robert Reckner, 44, Salem, who had an active felony parole violation warrant for his arrest. Reckner was transported to the Columbiana County jail complex with additional charges for fleeing.
— Officers responded at 7:33 p.m. April 4 to Sherman Street after receiving a residential panic alarm. Officers met with the homeowner who reported everything to be fine and the alarm to have been accidental.
