Sheriff’s Office
— Deputies were dispatched at 6:27 p.m. Tuesday to Old Monroeville Road, Salineville, for a male subject sitting alongside the roadway on a cell phone allegedly making suicidal threats. Deputies spoke with the man, who was fine, and no suicidal threats were made.
— Deputies responded at 5:56 p.m. Tuesday to state Route 45, Madison Township, for a welfare check on a man. Deputies spoke with the man who was fine and with family.
Highway Patrol
— A vehicle-pedestrian incident in Fairfield Township has been forwarded to the Columbiana County prosecutor for possible charges. According to the report, Wayne Styen, of East Park Avenue in Columbiana, was traveling westbound at 5:22 p.m. March 11 on Southern, when his vehicle struck 2-year-old Katelynn Shafer, who had dashed out on foot in his lane of traffic. Katelynn had been unsupervised in the house, watching TV, when her father had left the home to assist with the construction of a shed out in the yard, according to the narrative. She didn’t have a history of dashing out the front door to play in the street, according to her father.
— Izeah Dunham, of Canton, was cited at 3:45 p.m. March 16 in Knox Township for failure to control, after he was traveling westbound on Georgetown Road and drove off the right side of the road, striking several objects before going down the embankment.
— Ashley Felger, of Echo Dell Road in Rogers, was cited at 1:30 a.m. March 21 in Madison Township for failure to control, after traveling off the right side of Sprucevale Road and striking an utility pole.
— Dylan Garlock, of Mechanicstown Road in Hanoverton, was cited at 2:44 p.m. March 19 for improper backing, after he struck James Sturgeon, of Campbell Road in Hanoverton, while backing out of a private drive on Mechanicstown Road.
— Mark Christopher Geon, of East Main Street in New Waterford, was cited at 6:18 p.m. March 19 in Fairfield Township, after Geon was southeastbound on Creek Road and went off the right side of the road, striking a ditch.
— Victoria Anderson, of Crews Road in Wellsville, was cited at 7:30 a.m. March 18 for failure to control in Madison Township. While traveling southbound on state Route 45, Anderson’s vehicle traveled off the right side of the road, striking a mailbox, an utility pole, a traffic sign and embankment.
— Mark Smith, of County Airport Road in East Liverpool, was cited at 2:25 a.m. March 17 for failure to control in Madison Township. Smith was northbound on County Airport Road when his vehicle traveled off the right side and struck a sign and a pole.
Leetonia
— A noise complaint was received at 7:07 p.m. March 22 in the 600 block of Columbia Street. Upon arrival, the officer heard no loud music.
— A female subject called dispatch at 7:05 p.m. March 25 and requested her ex-boyfriend be removed from her residence in the 400 block of Columbia Street. Since he had established residency there and receives mail at the resident, he was provided a police escort to remove some of his personal belongings before leaving the property without incident.
— A silver truck was reportedly doing donuts near the Greenway Trailhead on Washington Street around 4:59 p.m. March 22 and reportedly left the property per the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office.
— A Leetonia man reported at 9:24 a.m. March 25 that multiple devices had been purchased using his Discover card at Xfinity online. The company gave him a report number and directed here to file the report before closing his credit card.
— A suspicious vehicle was reported at 10:58 p.m. March 25 near the kitchen entrance of Leetonia school. The vehicle was unoccupied but running. A moment later, the custodian, who had a remote start on the vehicle, had started it from inside.
St. Clair Township
— Officers assisted with traffic for a fire with a truck on fire on state Route 11 on March 13.
— Officers advised a female who was almost hit by a car in the Sheetz parking, as well as the driver who almost hit her, to be more careful while traveling through parking lots after responding on March 13 to a call of a female almost getting hit. Security footage showed the female looking down while walking through the parking lot not paying attention.
— A driver received a warning following a March 13 traffic stop on St. Clair Avenue for two different plates on the vehicle.
— A male at Moore Avenue residence asked neighbors to call police on March 13. When officers arrived, they spoke to a male and female. The male said he had been arguing with the kids, and it’s been an ongoing thing. The male had been drinking and officers advised it would be best if he left for the night. Officers were told he already had a place to go.
— An officer at Walmart for a call for a criminal trespass also responded to a private property accident in the parking lot. The person arrested was transported from Walmart by another officer.
— A driver was issued a verbal warning following a March 13 traffic stop for crossing over the center line on state Route 170.
— Alexa Call, age and address not provided, was issued a citation for speed following a March 13 traffic stop on Y & O Road.
— Officers advised Kristen Walton, age and address not provided, on March 13 that she was being trespassed from the Carriage Hill Apartments, and she could not legally walk or drive on the property, parking lots, or hallways to gain entrance to a friend’s apartment.
— Jeffrey Johnson, 55, address not provided, was charged with criminal trespass at Walmart on March 13. Officers spoke with Walmart Loss Prevention who told them Johnson was observed inside the bank located in Walmart and he had been trespassed a few days ago for harassing female employees and signed the trespass form after being advised he was not to enter Walmart property.
Salem
— Officers responded to the 1800 block of Cliff Drive at 11:59 p.m. Friday to assist Perry Township Officers. Officers assisted until no longer needed.
— Officers responded to the 1600 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 10:59 p.m. Friday for a report of threats, harassment, and several other issues. Officers separated all parties advising them that neither party is to interact with the other and both are criminally trespassed from the other’s property.
— Officers responded to the 900 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 9:11 p.m. Friday for a reported domestic in progress. Officers spoke with all parties and found that one party had struck another. Sarah Johnson, 34, Salem, was taken into custody and transported to the Columbiana County Jail charged with domestic violence.
— Officers responded to the 1800 block of Cliff Drive at 8:24 p.m. Friday to assist Perry Township officers. Officers assisted until no longer needed.
— Officers spoke with several people involved in an alleged dispute with possible criminal damaging at 7:01 p.m. Friday. Officers collected information from all parties and advised the initial caller that the matter would need to be reviewed by a prosecutor.
— Officers responded to the 1000 block of Buckeye Avenue at 5:58 p.m. Friday to assist the fire department with a possibly intoxicated man requiring a lift assist. When officers arrived the fire department advised that everything checked okay, and officers were not needed.
— Officers responded to the area of the Newgarden Avenue railroad crossing at 5:34 a.m. Tuesday for a report of a truck having struck and broke a rail crossing gate arm. Officers observed the truck had already left the area and dispatch contacted Norfolk Southern and were advised that someone was being sent to repair the gate. Officers stood by until a train came through to confirm that the flashing lights were still functioning at the railroad crossing.
— Officers on patrol in the area of North Broadway Avenue and East State Street observed a dumpster obstructing the left lane of traffic on North Broadway. The dumpster had not been in the roadway roughly half an hour prior and appeared to have been pushed into the street intentionally. The dumpster was pushed back out of the roadway and into the dirt lot on the corner of Sugartree Alley.
— Officers responded to the 600 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 1:06 a.m. Tuesday for a reported domestic. Officers found the matter to be a verbal argument over relationship issues. Both parties were advised of the domestic violence laws.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of East Perry Street at 10:42 p.m. Monday for a noise complaint. When officers arrived, no loud music was heard and the homeowner advised that she and her friends were listening to music earlier but had since turned it down. She was advised of the noise ordinance and potential issues if officers had to return to the residence.
— Officers on patrol in the area of Southeast Boulevard and Franklin Avenue at 10:39 p.m. Monday observed a vehicle with only one headlight. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and found the driver, James Oiler, 41, Wellsville, had an active warrant out of the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office. Officers confirmed the warrant and took Oiler into custody, transporting him to the police department for processing before transporting him to the Columbiana County Jail.
— Officers responded to the 900 block of Newgarden Avenue at 9:07 p.m. Monday for a reported person to be removed. Officers were advised that the caller’s ex-boyfriend was on scene and trying to get into her residence. Officers were also advised by the caller that the person had left prior to officers’ arrival but advised that he would be back. Officers advised the caller to call back in needed.
