Salem

— Karen Sworak, 37, Diamond, was cited for failure to yield after her westbound vehicle on West Pershing Street struck a vehicle driven North on South Howard Avenue by Betty Kibler, 67, Hanoverton, at 8:22 a.m. Monday. No injuries were reported.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of East State Street at 2:34 p.m. Tuesday for a reported suspicious person. The caller advised that a woman was walking downtown and acting strangely. Officers did not observe the woman doing anything illegal and not contact was made.

— Officers responded to the 800 block of East State Street at 1:39 p.m. Tuesday for a wellness check. The caller advised that there was a woman lying on the steps of the building. Officers spoke with the woman who advised she was fine. Officers also spoke with the building’s security who advised that she “hangs out on the steps all the time.” The woman gathered her belongings and left the area.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of West Fifth Street at 1:18 p.m. Tuesday for a reported barking dog. The caller advised that the dog has been barking for hours. Officers did not hear any dogs barking in the area.

— Officers on patrol in the 500 block of East Perry Street at 12:27 p.m. Tuesday observed a suspicious person walking in the middle of the roadway disrupting the flow of traffic. Contact was made with the person they were advised to stay out of the roadway.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 10:11 a.m. Tuesday regarding a reported scam. The person explained that they had lost around $28,000 and officers collected information about the matter and advised them that the matter will be sent to a detective to review. Officers also advised them to get a consultation with an attorney as it would be their best option to get the money back.

— Officers responded with the city zoning officer in the 300 block of Brooklyn Avenue at 9:27 a.m. Tuesday for a reported parking issue. Officers attempted contact at two residences but received no answer.

— Officers responded to Salem West Healthcare for documentation needed for information regarding an alleged assault that had occurred on the property. Officers collected the information.

Perry Township

— Officers responded to the 1700 block of Harding Avenue at 5:19 a.m. Tuesday for a reported noise complaint. Officers did not hear any noise coming from the residence and spoke with the occupants advising them of the noise ordinance.

— Officers responded to the 1200 block of Stewart Road at 7 p.m. Monday for a report of solicitors in the area. Officers spoke with the people in question, advising them of the soliciting ordinance.

— Officers responded with the fire department to the 1400 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 6:24 p.m. Sunday for a report of a possible tree on fire. A branch had fallen onto a transformer during the storm and was smoking. Ohio Edison responded and turned off the power.

— Officers responded to Van Buren Avenue at 5:35 p.m. Sunday for a reported civil issue. The caller was upset their son was going to cut down part of a tree hanging onto his property and the caller was advised again that the matter was civil and to contact an attorney.

— Officers responded to the 700 block of Stewart Road at 8:20 a.m. Sunday for a reported tree in the roadway. Officers were able to remove the debris.

— Officers responded to the 1200 block of West State Street at 10:05 p.m. Saturday for a reported noise complaint. When they arrived officers could hear guitars and drums from the roadway. Officers had to advise a man several times to come out from behind the doorway to speak with them, and he remained uncooperative towards officers when asked to stop for the night. Officers advised the man of the time frames for the noise ordinance.

— Officers responded to the 1500 block of Madison Avenue at 3:24 p.m. Saturday for a reported juvenile who had broken windows out of an abandoned residence. Officers checked the area and found the door to be open and all but two windows to be broken out. After taking pictures of the damaged officers responded to the 500 block of Michigan Avenue to speak with the juvenile and their guardian and the juvenile advised that he did break the windows with a crowbar. Officers advised the juvenile that possible charges would be pending. The matter is under investigation.

— Officers responded to the 1300 block of West State Street at 1:18 p.m. Saturday to assist EMT with a medical call. When officers arrived EMT had already loaded the patient and was transporting them to the hospital.

— Officers on patrol in the area of U.S. Route 62 and state Route 45 observed a vehicle that had been parked off the side of the roadway and been running for two hours. Officers spoke with the driver who was sleeping and advised he would be on his way.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of Benton Road at 11:58 p.m. Friday for an open 911 line. When officers arrived, the caller advised that there was inappropriate paranormal activity going on. The caller denied medical and was informed that if they did not feel safe to leave and seek professional help from someone with better knowledge in the matter.
