Leetonia
— Officers were dispatched at 10:28 p.m. March 7 to set up a perimeter around state Route 14 and Cherry Fork Road for Columbiana County Sheriff’s deputies, the state highway patrol and Columbiana police, who were searching for the occupant of a vehicle who fled on foot during a traffic stop into nearby woods. The search for the suspect ended after midnight.
— Richard Bash, of Leetonia, was involved in a crash with his Gator utility vehicle at 4:34 p.m. March 10 in the 100 block of Pine Street, after a possible surgery. Bash appeared to have been northbound on Washington, when he left the road on the east side and overcorrected. He then traveled across both lanes and left on the west side, going into a ditch, striking an embankment and was ejected from the UTV.
— A concerned citizen reported at 9:39 p.m. March 10 that their friend was exiting the American Legion in a red pickup truck and may not be safe to drive due to their intoxication level. Attempts to find the friend outside the establishment were unsuccessful.
— Police observed an open door at 9:16p.m. March 11 at a business in the 300 block of East High Street. After searching the open property for intruders, officers re-secured the facility and cleared.
Salem
— The school resource officer was advised by a student at 1:13 p.m. Monday that a page on social media had posted inappropriate pictures about her and was making fun of her. All information was gathered, and the detective division was advised.
— Officers responded to the 900 block of West Perry Street at 12:43 p.m. Monday for a wellness check. Officers were advised that a home health nurse had been unable to contact their patient and neighbors advised that they have not seen the woman in question since last week. A short time later the home health nurse was able to contact the person’s case manager and was advised they were being treated at another facility.
— Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 8:45 a.m. Monday for a report of a reckless operator. Officers observed a vehicle swerving on the roadway and almost striking the curb. Officers attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle which finally stopped on South Lincoln Avenue in front of Quaker Village. Officers attempted to speak with the driver, Mendez Vaquez, 37, Columbiana, but there was a language barrier and an interpreter was contacted. Vaquez did not have a valid license, and the owner of the vehicle was contacted, who advised they were unaware that Vaquez did not have a license. Vaquez was cited for driving with no operator’s license and the vehicle was returned to its owner.
— Officers responded to the 1200 block of Mound Street at 9:20 p.m. Tuesday for a reported warrant check. Officers were unable to contact anyone at the residence.
— Officers on patrol in the 600 block of Columbia Street at 8:44 p.m. Tuesday for a wellness check. The caller advised that their neighbor had not been seen for about a week and his mail was piling up but could not provide any more information. Officers requested the fire department respond which looked through a few windows with a ladder but could not see fully into the residence and then spread the door open so entry could be made into the residence. Officers checked the residence and found nobody inside.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of Bank Street at 8:46 p.m. Tuesday for a report of juveniles fighting over a toy. Officers spoke with both juveniles and guardians who had conflicting stories, and two adult volunteers from the youth center on South Lundy where the incident occurred advised who the item belongs to.
— Officers responded to the 600 block of Prospect Street at 8:11 p.m. Tuesday for a reported warrant check. Officers were unable to make contact with the person in question.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 5:23 p.m. Tuesday to assist the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force in taking a man into custody for solicitation. The man was transported to the Columbiana County Jail.
— Officers on patrol in the 800 block of Ellsworth Avenue at 4:54 p.m. Tuesday observed a man with an active warrant out of the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office. After confirming the warrant officers spoke with and took the man, Cliff Lake, 42, Salem, into custody and transported him to the Columbiana County Jail.
— Officers responded to the 1000 block of Buckeye Avenue at 4:42 p.m. Tuesday for a reported neighbor dispute. The caller advised that the person in question was threatening them. Officers spoke with the man, who was highly intoxicated and fell over while speaking with officers, and a member of peer support was contacted to respond and speak with the man in an attempt to get him treatment.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of Ohio Avenue at 4:16 p.m. Tuesday for a reported hit and skip. The caller advised that he found his truck parked on the roadway with significant damage to the left side of the bumper and rear-view mirror. Officers took photos and provided the caller with a report number.
— Officers responded to the 600 block of East Eighth Street at 3:01 p.m. Tuesday for a reported 911 hang-up call. Officers checked the area but did not locate anybody that called 911 or needed assistance.
— The school resource officer was advised by school administration of a student having issues with a family member and inappropriate behavior at 2:11 p.m. Tuesday. The officer spoke with the student and gathered all information, and the matter is under investigation.
— Officers responded to the 800 block of Franklin Avenue at 12:43 p.m. Tuesday for a wellness check. Officers were unable to locate the man in question.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of Woodland Avenue at 10:04 a.m. Tuesday for a reported unruly juvenile. Officers responded with a translator and were advised that the juvenile has been refusing to go to school. Officers spoke with the juvenile, advising him to gather his school items and get to school and followed their vehicle to the school.
— Officers responded to the 1200 block of East Sixth Street at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday for a speak with officer report. The caller advised that a male juvenile said that their stepfather assaulted them the night prior. The matter is under investigation.
— Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 8:53 a.m. Tuesday to assist the United States Marshals Task Force with the arrest of a man. Officers placed the man in custody.
Perry Township
— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 4:40 p.m. Monday for a reported neighbor dispute. The conflict started over the caller cat going in their neighbor’s yard multiple times and when approached it turned into a verbal altercation.
— Officers responded to the 1700 block of Depot Road at 4:22 p.m. Monday for a report of a man leaving items in people’s mailboxes. Officers spoke with the man and advised him to stop his actions.
— Officers on patrol in the 1300 block of Andrew Avenue at 8:53 p.m. Sunday for a report of a man threatening roommates and making comments of self-harm. Officers spoke with the man and facility staff and EMT responded to transport the man to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of Benton Avenue at 5:29 p.m. Sunday for a report of an unwanted man. The man had let a woman use his food stamp card and now wanted the items back. The man advised that he had spent more than he expected, and the woman advised the man would not leave her alone and offers to buy her groceries. Both parties were advised not to have contact if they wanted the issue to stop. The man was also advised to the return to the property per the landlord.
— Officers responded to the 1100 block of West Perry Street at 4:52 p.m. Sunday for a report of a man going door to door. Officers spoke with the man, who was an Ohio Edison representative, and no violations had occurred. Officers advised him to contact zoning if her returned.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of Idaho Avenue at 11:36 p.m. Saturday for a possible domestic. A juvenile advised that their parents were in an altercation, which was possibly physical. Both parties separated when officers arrived, and the male half claimed they moved the female half out of the way when she had him cornered. The female half, who was highly intoxicated and uncooperative insisted nothing physical had occurred and the man and his juvenile son left for the evening due to female’s intoxication.
— Dominick Ciarniello, 65, Youngstown, was cited for reasonable control after his northbound vehicle on North Lincoln Avenue went off the roadway striking a pole at 10:58 p.m. Saturday. The Salem and Perry Township fire departments responded and removed Ciarniello who was transported to the Salem hospital by EMT for minor injuries.
— Marcia Shepard, 82, Salem was cited for failure to yield after her vehicle attempted to make a left turn onto Depot Road from a private drive, striking a vehicle driven by Douglas Miller, 41, Beloit at 4:49 p.m. Saturday. No injuries were reported.
— Officers responded to the 1400 block of Jennings Avenue at 3:19 p.m. March 6 for a reported theft of a package. Officers found the package to still be on the porch and that a reported suspicious person worked for an internet company trying to get a hold of the homeowner.
— Officers responded to the 1100 block of Prospect Street at 12:25 a.m. March 6 to contact a resident for the Salem Police Department. Officers attempted to make contact several times but were unable to do so.
