Sheriff’s Office
— Deputies responded at 1:41 a.m. Tuesday to a report of a medical call with a possible disturbance on Malone Road, Washington Township. While en route, it was determined the situation was only a disturbance. Deputies arrived and spoke with all residents, who advised there was an argument only and the situation was now under control.
— A disturbance was reported in the area of the Y-Inn on Sprucevale Road, Middleton Township at 11:35 p.m. Monday. The report said a white Ford F-250 driven by an older male and a small blue car with an unknown occupant sped off from the scene after the people could be heard arguing and then what sounded like two gunshots. Deputies looked for the vehicles while en route and checked the area, with no contact with either vehicle. Deputies continued to check the area of the Y-Inn for any evidence of the reported possible gun play, with nothing located.
— Deputies were dispatched at 4:22 a.m. Sunday to Roberts Road, Fairfield Township, for a welfare check that was transferred to the sheriff’s office from the Columbiana Police Department. All parties advised deputies that the male half was going through a manic episode and he denied self harm and harm to others. Deputies left with no further incident.
Highway Patrol
— No citations have been issued as a result of a two-vehicle crash at 1:55 p.m. March 3 in Salem Township. Mary Wise, of state Route 344 in Salem, was westbound on state Route 45 and struck a vehicle belonging to Pauline McKarns, of Campbell Road in Hanoverton, as she pulled out from a stop sign on Salem Grange Road. Wise’s vehicle then traveled off the right side of the road and over an embankment. Both drivers were transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital.
— Kara Adams, of Strader Road in East Liverpool, was not cited as a result of a single vehicle crash in Elkrun Township. At 1:33 p.m. Feb. 27, Adams was eastbound on state Route 30 when she drove off the right side of the road and struck a guardrail due to a medical issue.
— Ryder Rotaru, of Youngstown, was cited at 9:26 p.m. Feb. 26 in Elkrun Township for failure to control, after traveling off the right side of the road while driving on state Route 11 and hitting a guardrail.
— Anna Yonker, of Alice Street in East Palestine, was cited at 7:35 p.m. Feb. 24 for failure to control in Fairfield Township. Yonker was eastbound on Heck Road when she failed to negotiate a curve and drove off the right side of the road, struck a traffic sign, re-entered the road, went off the left side and struck a ditch.
Salem
— Officers on patrol in the 100 block of North Broadway Avenue at 1:14 p.m. Tuesday observed a vehicle with both headlights out which then turned the wrong way down the one way. Officers initiated a traffic stop, observing signs of intoxication in the driver, Zeeshan Samad, 31, Salem, who was asked to exit the vehicle for standard field sobriety testing. After testing Samad was taken into custody charged with OVI and was offered the choice to provide a voluntary urine sample which he refused.
— Officers responded to the 800 block of East Third Street at 12:52 a.m. Tuesday for a noise complaint. Officers attempted to contact the person in question, but nobody answered the door.
— Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 9:11 p.m. Monday for a report of a possibly intoxicated driver. Officers observed the vehicle in question driving around the business and pulling into a parking spot while hitting the curb. Officers spoke with the driver, determining they were not intoxicated but out past her driving restrictions and was confused at night. Officers gave them a courtesy ride home and left her car parked at the establishment with their permission.
— Officers responded to the 700 block of West Wilson Street at 8:29 p.m. Monday to check the area for a report of juveniles throwing rocks. Officers checked the area and several side streets and alleys but were unable to locate the juveniles.
— Officers responded to the 1200 block of North Ellsworth Avenue at 7:16 p.m. Monday for a report of a branch hanging on possible power lines. Officers observed the branch and Ohio Edison responded at a later time to remove the branch.
— Officers spoke with a person at the police department regarding an animal complaint at 4:55 p.m. Monday. The caller advised that she had medical issues, and a family member took her dog in but was now refusing to give the dog back. The officer spoke with the family member in question and due to conflicting stories, the case will be forwarded to the Columbiana County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
— Officers responded to the 1000 block of Maple Street at 4:07 p.m. Monday for a wellness check. Officers spoke with the parents of the juvenile advising them of the complaint and after observing conditions in the home the case will be forwarded to the Columbiana County Children Services and the housing department.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of North Ellsworth Avenue at 3:31 p.m. Monday for a report of loose dogs chasing two girls in the area and a person that was also reportedly trying to catch the dogs. Officers checked the area of North Ellsworth and East Third Street but did not observe any loose dogs and there were no pedestrians in the area.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of West 16th Street at 3:12 p.m. Monday for a report of two individuals who broke a window to a residence in the 200 block of West 16th Street. The individuals had left the area in a vehicle, and a description was provided to officers. Officers subsequently located and stopped the vehicle identifying the occupants and confirming they resided and the residence in question and the residents confirmed everything was fine.
— Officers responded to the 1900 block of East State Street at 2:15 p.m. Monday for a reported animal complaint. Officers were advised of a dog inside a vehicle and upon arrival observed all four windows to be down and the dog not to be in distress.
— Officers responded to the 2500 block of Lexington Avenue at 2:02 p.m. Monday for a reported barking dog. Officers checked the area, but no barking was heard.
— Officers responded to the 800 block of Sunset Boulevard at 1:41 p.m. Monday for a reported reckless operator complaint. Officers were advised that the caller confronted the person in question about their aggressive dog and the person got into their vehicle and sped away. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.
