Perry Township

— Officers responded to the 1200 block of West State Street at 8:34 p.m. Thursday for a reported disturbance. The caller’s ex came to pick up his children when racial slurs were exchanged, and a physical altercation occurred with the ex striking the other man. The man from the residence refused medical treatment and did not want to pursue charges.

— Officers responded to the 1200 block of West State Street at 7:35 p.m. Thursday for a report of a possible domestic. Contact was made with the male half who was emotional due to his girlfriend wanting to leave the residence. It was found that the couple was having a verbal argument with no physical violence or threats occurring.

— Francis Cunning, 65, Wellsville, was cited for failure to yield after his vehicle failed to yield at the intersection of state Route 45 and U.S. Route 62 striking a vehicle driven westbound by Cynthia Morrison, 56, Salem, at 1:08 p.m. Thursday. Morrison was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Boardman by the Green Township fire department.

— Officers responded to the 1100 block of Prospect Street at 8:25 p.m. Wednesday for a wellness check. Officers were unable to contact the resident who advised they have not seen the person in question in a few days. Officers observed the residence to be secure with no interior lights on.

— Officers responded to the 1700 block of Harding Avenue at 9:46 a.m. Wednesday for speak with officer report. The caller advised that she needed her car keys back from a man who officers were unable to contact.

— Officers responded to the 1700 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 3:59 a.m. Wednesday for a reported medical call. Officers assisted until EMT arrived and transported the patient.

— Officers on patrol observed a woman hanging out of the passenger side window of a vehicle yelling at the vehicle in front of her in the area of state Route 9 and state Route 45 at 4:59 p.m. Tuesday. Officers spoke with occupants of both vehicles and found it was possibly a hit and skip incident which occurred inside the city limits. Both vehicles were inspected, and no damage was found on either vehicle.

— While on the scene of another call in the area of South Ellsworth Avenue and West Wilson Street at 10:44 p.m. Monday officers observed a man in the middle of the roadway arguing with himself. Officers spoke with the person and while they were waiting on the police department the man attempted to flee and due to the man being heavily intoxicated on a substance, he was transported by EMT.

— Dispatch advised that a Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office deputy had observed smoke near the intersection of Depot Road and Snyder Road at 10:08 p.m. Monday. Officers checked the area but did not locate any fire.

Salem

— Officers responded to the 1900 block of East State Street at 5:30 a.m. Friday for a woman with an active warrant out of Columbiana County. Officers confirmed the warrant and the woman, Marla Zema, 47, Wellsville, was taken into custody and transported to the Columbiana County Jail.

— Officers responded to the 800 block of East Third Street at 3:28 a.m. Friday for a report of possible shots fired. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate any shooting or people in the area.

— Officers responded to the Salem Regional Medical Center at 12:28 a.m. Friday for a reported combative patient. Hospital staff advised that a highly intoxicated woman had checked herself in for suicidal thoughts and began getting into the faces of staff and threatening to run out of the emergency room. Officers were able to get the woman to calm down enough to get further treatment and after speaking with her for some times were advised she had been in a physical altercation with a man known to her but didn’t want to press charges. She also advised of concerns for a pair of children that she babysat at an unknown residence in Mound Street. Officers determined that the woman had an active warrant out of the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office and hospital staff advised they would contact the department prior to her release.

— Officers responded to the 300 block of East Sixth Street at 12:15 a.m. Friday for an unknown issue. Officers spoke with a woman who advised they had been in a verbal argument but nothing physical occurred. The matter is under investigation.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 9:58 p.m. Thursday for a reported protection order complaint. The person has an active protection order through the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office and received a message from the man the order was against through a website at approximately 5:30 p.m., but it was not noticed until two hours later. Photos of the message were taken as the man’s face and site information are present on the contacts. The report will be sent to the Prosecutor’s Office for review for a warrant.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of Franklin Avenue at 7:56 p.m. Thursday for a reported domestic dispute between juvenile brothers. The caller advised that he was scratched by his 14-year-old brother with a fork during an argument over time spent in their shared bedroom. Officers observed three small scratches on the caller’s right shoulder and a small cut inside of his brother’s upper lip. Both juveniles claimed the other had started the altercation and no other household member was present during the incident, and after speaking with the parents it was agreed that both brothers would separate for the night as nobody in the house believed any further issues would occur.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 6:56 p.m. Thursday to assist the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force. Officers assisted in taking one man into custody and $140 in cash was seized as evidence.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 5:25 p.m. Thursday for a reported child custody dispute. The caller advised the father of their child took their 7-year-old daughter from her aunt’s residence earlier in the day. When she contacted the father, he advised he would return the daughter later in the evening. The parents have never been married, and no court order or arrangement has been established. Officers contacted the father advising him he was violating custody and to return the child immediately, which he did without incident.

— Officers responded to the 1700 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 4:08 p.m. Thursday for a reported custody dispute. The caller advised that the school was advised by the father of their child not to release the child to her and that the father was at the school and yelling. When officers arrived, the father had left, and the school was hesitant to release the child due to a paper the father had given them. Officers looked at the paperwork and found it was not a legal court document, and the child was released to their mother.

— Officers spoke to a woman at the police department at 3:42 p.m. Thursday for a reported custody dispute. The woman advised that the father of her son was not honoring the custody agreement and officers advised her to contact her attorney.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of East Second Street at 1:45 p.m. Thursday for a reported water line break. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate any problems.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 1:13 p.m. Thursday for a reported suspicious person. The person advised that someone had gone into her car in the 1000 block of North Ellsworth Avenue and left a note with their phone number and when she contacted them to ask their name, they wanted to be left anonymous. Officers advised her to block the number and that they would attempt to contact them via public service. Officers contacted them and advised him to stop texting the caller and not go into other people’s vehicles.

— Officers responded to the 800 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 12:17 p.m. Thursday for a reported suspicious person. The caller advised that they saw a person walking down the road that looked shady. Officers checked the area but did not locate them.

— Officers responded to the 600 block of East Seventh Street at 10:29 a.m. Thursday to assist the Salem City Health Department. The health department believed someone was inside the residence. Officers checked the residence but did not locate anyone inside and the health department posted tags on the building.

— An officer responded with the fire department to the 200 block of Roosevelt Avenue at 8:48 a.m. Thursday in reference to a resident who reported to a case worker having medical/mental issues and wanting to go to the hospital. The resident was transported by ambulance to the Alliance hospital.

— Officers responded to a two-vehicle crash in the 2900 block of East State Street at 6:24 p.m. Wednesday in which a driver was turning east out of a private drive and failed to yield the right of way, striking another vehicle. No injuries were reported and due to the lack of damage, no citation was issued.

— Officers assisted the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force in detaining a suspect in the 100 block of West State Street at 5:34 p.m. Wednesday.

— An officer took a report of passing bad checks from a 1600 block South Lincoln Avenue business at 3:34 p.m. Wednesday. The suspect was identified and the matter turned over to the detectives. An officer returned at 3:48 p.m. Wednesday for a similar report which was also turned over to detectives upon identifying the suspect.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of West Third Street at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday in reference to a possibly sick raccoon. Officers found the animal walking through back yards and notified the health department of the situation.

— An officer responded to the 900 block of East State Street at 3:16 p.m. Wednesday in reference to juveniles throwing rocks at vehicles. The juvenile denied the allegation.

— Officers responded to a dispute in the 600 block of West Wilson Street at 1:16 p.m. Wednesday, but found no violence had occurred.

— The school resource officer was advised of a student causing an issue in the senior hallway of the high school by the loading dock. The student reportedly became very agitated when confronted by administrators and staff members and left the school without permission, running toward her home. Her mother was notified of the issue.

— Officers responded with the fire department to the 900 block of South Lundy Avenue at 10:54 a.m. Wednesday in reference to a person lying in the roadway. Officers stood by with the person until the person was transported to the emergency room by ambulance.

— Officers responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of State Street and Ellsworth Avenue at 9:56 a.m. Wednesday in which a driver was traveling south and stopped for a red light, then reportedly had a medical emergency and traveled into the intersection, getting struck by an eastbound vehicle. The southbound driver was transported to the emergency room by ambulance.

— Chasity Thacker, 39, Canton, was cited for improper backing following a two-vehicle crash in the 500 block of East Sixth Street at 3:35 a.m. Wednesday in which she was backing from a driveway and struck a parked vehicle on the south side of the road.

— Officers responded to the the 2500 block of Bentley Drive at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday in reference to a combative patient. The person was found cooperative and transported by ambulance to a hospital.

— An officer responded to the 100 block of East State Street at 6:36 p.m. Tuesday where a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle while crossing the street. No injuries were reported and the pedestrian refused medical attention.

— Officers responded to the 1000 block of Buckeye Avenue at 6:26 p.m. Tuesday to check on the well-being of a resident that was hallucinating. First Responders also arrived on scene, but the resident refused medical treatment.

— Officers responded to the 600 block of East Sixth Street at 6:07 p.m. Tuesday where a resident reported someone was trying to enter an upstairs apartment, but no one should be in there. Officers spoke with the person in question who was coming down the steps and she said she was looking for a relative who had been living there. She was advised not to bang on the door.

— An officer responded to the 200 block of Roosevelt Avenue at 5:40 p.m. Tuesday where a resident reported returning home from the hospital to discover items missing from the house. The matter is under investigation.

— An officer spoke with a complainant on station at 3:54 p.m. Tuesday in reference to an ongoing issue with the complainant’s juvenile son and another juvenile. The original incident is still under investigation.

— Officers returned to a 400 block Sharp Avenue home at 3:31 a.m. Sunday in reference someone knocking on the door and running. Officers were not previously able to find the person in question, so the homeowner provided a video of the person knocking then running away.

— Officers spoke with a man on station at 11:32 p.m. Saturday who was not making any sense. Officers contacted medical personnel and the man was transported to the hospital for evaluation.

— An officer responded to the 700 block of West Wilson Street at 9:55 p.m. Saturday where a resident reported an unknown person had smacked her front window, scaring her. Officers checked the area but found no one.

— Daniel J. Sefcik, 40, Salem, was charged with domestic violence after officers responded to the 900 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 7:35 p.m. Saturday in reference to a physical altercation between an adult and juvenile of the home. The juvenile was transported to the Tobin Center.

— Officers responded to the 2900 block of East State Street at 10:52 a.m. Saturday to check on a man who fell in a business parking lot and was confused. The man was transported by ambulance to the Salem hospital.

— An officer on patrol at 6:50 a.m. Saturday observed a large raccoon with its head stuck in a jar near the roadway of Continental and Bentley drives. The officer assisted the raccoon from the jar. The raccoon did not appear to be injured and scurried off with its head covered in what appeared to be mayonnaise.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of Sharp Avenue at 2:55 a.m. Saturday in reference to juveniles knocking on doors then running into the woods. Officers searched the area but were unable to find the juveniles.

— Officers responded to the 1200 block of West State Street at 11:02 p.m. Friday to assist Perry Township police with a suicidal man. Officers stood by until the man was transported by ambulance to a hospital.

— Officers responded to the 600 block of South Union Avenue at 10:42 p.m. Friday in reference to a vehicle damaged by a fallen tree limb.

— Officers responded with medical personnel to the 100 block of North Howard Avenue at 9:19 p.m. Friday in reference to a possible overdose. Officers spoke with the person in question who said she had taken some pills. She was checked by medical personnel and then released to her grandfather.

— Officers responded to the 1300 block of Cleveland Street at 9:13 p.m. Friday in reference to a tree that fell onto house lines and two vehicles. No one was in the vehicles at the time of the incident. The Salem Fire Department taped off the area until Ohio Edison arrived.

— Officers responded to the 2300 block of East State Street at 9:06 p.m. Friday in reference to juveniles inside the laundry mat with no parental supervision, not washing clothes and riding the carts. Officers learned they had been at the movies next door and were waiting for a ride home. Officers advised the juveniles to leave the property.

— Kassi Ann Snay, 27, Salineville, was charged with misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of drug abuse instruments and arrested on an active warrant for escape after officers responded to the 900 block of North Ellsworth Avenue at 8:18 p.m. Friday to search for people with warrants for their arrest. Officers also found in plain view a black box containing needles, a glass pipe and a baggie with a white crystal substance.

— An officer responded to the 400 block of East Pershing Street at 4:38 p.m. Friday in reference to suspicious objects. The officer identified them as Epi-pens and collected them for safekeeping. The matter is under investigation.

— A West Wilson Street resident reported at 2:44 p.m. Friday she wished to have a person trespassed from her home because he was causing issues. The person was served the trespass notice.

— An officer responded to the area of South Lincoln Avenue and East Pershing Street at 1:05 p.m. Friday in reference to a driver yelling obscenities from a speaker. The officer spoke with the driver, advising him to stop and issuing him a disorderly conduct warning.

— An officer responded to the 100 block of East Third Street at 10:12 a.m. Friday to assist Columbiana County Child Protective Services with an investigation.
