Sheriff’s Office
— An Alliance woman called at 6:51 p.m. Saturday to request a welfare check on her grandchildren at their residence on state Route 172, West Township. A deputy spoke with the grandchildren, who were fine.
— A woman on Applesway Drive, Fairfield Township, reported at 10:35 p.m. Feb. 14 that her husband and their neighbor were outside arguing at the property line. Deputies spoke with her husband, who said he heard people outside his residence and dogs barking and when he went outside to see what was going on with a flashlight, the neighbor got confrontational. Deputies spoke with the neighbor, who said the man came onto his property yelling at him. Both were advised to stay on their properties for the night. Columbiana police assisted.
— A man on Salem Grange Road, Salem Township, reported at 7:15 p.m. Feb. 14 that his wife moved out of the residence and took two of his firearms and his dog. He was told to contact an attorney.
— Personnel from Duke & Duchess, U.S. Route 62, Knox Township, reported at 10:57 p.m. Feb. 13 that they found property inside the store that belongs to a person in Stark County. A deputy made attempts to contact the person, but with no contact made. The property was placed into the evidence room at the sheriff’s office until the person can be notified.
— Salem police officers at 9:54 p.m. Feb. 13 requested a sheriff’s deputy come to the parking lot of the Salem police station with leg irons, due to a person in custody in the back seat of a cruiser kicking the doors. A deputy put the leg irons on the person, who had a very strong odor of alcohol coming from his face area and was yelling. The person was identified as Dominic Hawk, 19, Homeworth Road, Alliance, who was charged with underage consumption, obstructing official business, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and reasonable control.
— Deputies were dispatched at 9:22 p.m. Feb. 12 to a property on state Route 165, Unity Township, for an assault report. A woman from East Palestine reported her boyfriend assaulted her, but she signed a refusal.
East Palestine
— Officers took a call at 11:56 p.m. on Monday from the East Palestine Middle School regarding a student talking about running away from their foster home. Officers made contact with the foster mother and she was made aware of the information.
— Officers responded to West Grant Street for a welfare check at 8:32 p.m. on Sunday. Officers made contact and determined nothing was wrong.
— Officers responded at 7:39 p.m. on Saturday to West Clark Street to a report of two males yelling. Negative contact was made.
— A woman called the station at 3:49 p.m. on Saturday regarding a civil matter.
— A resident called the station to receive information regarding child custody at 12:27 p.m. on Saturday.
— Officers responded to a noise complaint at 1:07 a.m. on South Washington Street on Saturday.
— A resident on West Main Street reported receiving harassing text messages from a person known to him. Officer warned both parties to cease communications and any attempt by one to contact the other would result in charges.
— An employee at a East Taggart Street business reported a theft at 2:14 p.m. on Friday.
— A woman on East Clark Street reported at 8:06 p.m. on Thursday receiving a phone call from someone who she has a protection against. The matter is under investigation.
— Officers responded to the East Main Street to an ongoing custody dispute.
Leetonia
— Eric Slagle, no address listed, was cited at 2:04 p.m. Feb. 14 on state Route 344 for driving under FRA suspension. Several days later, Slagle was cited once again for driving under suspension again was driving said vehicle after its release from impound. The vehicle’s owner, Donald White, was present and cited for wrongful entrustment at 2:45 p.m. Feb. 17 near state Route 344 and Main.
— A landlord-tenant dispute was reported at 7:34 a.m. Feb. 19 in the 300 block of Washington Street.
— Police investigated a complaint regarding a suspicious person at 5:46 p.m. Feb. 17 in the 400 block of Columbia Street. After turning over photos and videos, an officer went to a neighboring house where a man resembling said person answered the door and could offer no explanation for his behavior. He was informed if he returned to trespass at the neighbor’s he would be charged and that a report would be on file.
Perry Township
— Officers responded to the 1300 block of Andrew Avenue at 12:20 a.m. Wednesday for a reported civil complaint. Officers were advised that there was nothing physical and that the involved parties would separate for the night.
— Officers responded to the 1900 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 1:27 p.m. Wednesday for a reported suspicious person. The caller advised that an unknown maroon vehicle had pulled into her driveway and a man got out and was looking around her truck before leaving and parking at the Salem Golf Club.
— Michael Glista, 70, Salem, was cited for failure to yield after his eastbound vehicle on Goshen Road failed to stop at a stop sign and struck a vehicle driven northbound on U.S. Route 62 by Rachel Smith, 30, Lisbon at 10:08 a.m. Tuesday. No injuries were reported.
— Officers responded to the 900 block of Canterbury Lane at 6:39 a.m. Tuesday to assist the Perry Township Fire Department with a lift assist. Officers assisted until no longer needed.
— Trenton Lee, 20, Salem, was cited for reasonable control after his northbound vehicle on Goshen Road went off the right side of the roadway at 1:36 p.m. Monday. No injuries were reported.
— Timothy Tipton, 50, Salem, was cited for failure to yield after his northbound vehicle on Cunningham Road failed to yield at the intersection and struck a vehicle driven by Carolyn Eberly, 24, Leetonia at 12:36 p.m. Monday. No injuries were reported.
— Officers responded to Egypt Road at 7:30 a.m. Monday for a report of a tree in the roadway. Officers located tree and the road department responded to remove the tree.
— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 2:12 p.m. Saturday for a stolen vehicle report. The caller advised that their son parked the vehicle in their driveway at approximately 11 p.m. Friday and that when he woke up on that morning the vehicle was gone. A report was taken, and the vehicle was entered into LEADS.
— Officers responded to the 1800 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 9:43 a.m. Saturday for a wellness check on a person who the caller advised could be heard groaning through the door. Officers confirmed the caller’s statement and as contact could not be made with the landlord or any friends or family with a key, officers forced entry into the residence causing damage to the door jam. EMT and the fire department responded and transported the man to the Salem Regional Medical Center for evaluation.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of Wisconsin Boulevard at 12:42 p.m. Friday for a reported verbal dispute. Officers found that the caller had left prior to their arrival and the male half advised they had been arguing about him moving out of the residence.
— Officers responded to the Salem High School at 8:08 a.m. Feb. 13 to speak with the school resource officer regarding a report by a female juvenile of a domestic the night prior. Officers were advised that the juvenile was reporting her father had bruised her cheek with his watch the night prior. The juvenile did not appear to be being cared for hygiene wise and had fleas on her and was given clean clothes to change into and children services responded to the school. The matter is under investigation.
Salem
— Officers received a call at 8:58 p.m. Monday for a report of identity theft. Officers called the person and left a voicemail with no call returned.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of Ohio avenue at 7:51 p.m. Monday for a reported dispute. Officers found the female half, Elizabeth Looper, Salem, was in violation of a no contact order. Looper was taken into custody and transported to the Columbiana County Jail.
— Officers on patrol in the 400 block of Ohio Avenue at 10:38 p.m. Tuesday observed a vehicle commit several traffic violations and driving recklessly and conducted a traffic stop. Despite commands from officers the driver, Richard Phillis II, 53, Salem, fled from the vehicle on foot and continued attempting to flee from officers when caught after a short pursuit. Phillis, who was highly intoxicated was taken into custody, transported to the police department for processing and transported to the Columbiana County Jail charged with OVI, obstruction official business, and resisting arrest.
— Officers responded to the 600 block of East Perry Street at 10:28 p.m. Tuesday for a wellness check on a suspicious person reportedly walking up and down the street past homes. Officers checked the area but did not locate them.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of Walnut Street at 8:44 p.m. Tuesday for a reported juvenile problem. Officers spoke with all parties involved and resolved the matter for the time being.
— Officers responded to the 1600 block of Whinnery Road at 4:11 p.m. Tuesday for a reported water line break. Officers located the leak and had dispatch notify the water department.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 2:44 p.m. Tuesday to assist the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force with an arrest in the city. The man was taken into custody without incident, processed and transported to the Columbiana County Jail.
— Officers responded to the 900 block of East Third Street at 1:37 p.m. Tuesday for a medical call. Officers spoke with the woman in question, and they were transported to the emergency room by ambulance for evaluation.
— Officers responded to the 1900 block of East State Street at 8:22 a.m. Tuesday for a speak with officer report. The caller advised that he was brought to the city by another agency for medical attention the day prior and was unable to find a way back to Wellsville. They were referred to the CIT team.
— Officers responded to the area of West State Street at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday for a report of a vehicle being operated in a reckless manner. Officers located the vehicle in question and followed it for several blocks, observing no violations.
— William Harrison, 31, Salem, was cited for assured clear distance ahead after his eastbound vehicle on West State Street struck the rear of a vehicle driven by Skylar Greeneisen, 20, Salem at 4:57 p.m. Monday. No injuries were reported.
— Officers responded to the 1400 block of East State Street at 2:20 p.m. Monday for a reported identity theft. The caller advised that she had recently learned an unknown person had used her information for tax purposes when she was a juvenile. Officers provided them with their options for handling the situation.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of West Eighth Street at 12:39 a.m. Monday for a reported neighbor dispute. The caller advised that the new neighbor and their friends are using his driveway to turnaround and officers advised them to stop.
— Officers responded to the 900 block of East Third Street at 8:55 a.m. Monday for a report of possible theft. The caller advised she believed money had been taken from her bank account and provided officers a torn up piece of paperwork from the bank. Due to the conditions of the paperwork, she was advised to contact her bank to see if something was charged or not.
