Leetonia

— A village man reported receipt of an email from Georgia alleging that he had a federal warrant from Georgia, which was confirmed fraudulent at 12:31 p.m. Jan. 30.

— A village police officer was dispatched at 9:32 p.m. Jan. 31 to assist a county deputy in Washingtonville with a possible domestic. Upon arrival, the officer discovered no domestic but just a “competitive” game of UNO.

— A Leetonia resident will retrieve property found near the Columbiana traffic circle that had been forwarded to the village police’s lost and found at 8:10 p.m. Feb. 1.

Sheriff’s Office

— A caller from Howell Road, Unity Township, reported at 3:45 p.m. Monday that she wanted to flag a registration plate that was registered to her but that she allowed the person who bought her car to take with him. She was advised it was not theft and to contact the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles for further information.

— Deputies were dispatched at 8:32 p.m. Sunday to High Street, Leetonia regarding a female making suicidal threats. Deputies arrived and made contact with the woman, who advised that she just wanted to leave and she was feeling suicidal. She ultimately agreed to go to the hospital for a mental evaluation.

— Deputies were advised at 7:53 p.m. Sunday that a resident on Brookfield Street in Center Township wanted two people who had been staying in his residence for the last month or two to be removed. He was told that due to the length of time they had been staying there that they will need to be evicted. He was advised of the eviction process.

— A caller at 5:04 p.m. Sunday reported a female was live on social media directing threats toward her and others. She was told deputies can not do anything about what is said on social media without proof of the means to move forward with those threats. She was advised if the female comes to her property to call the sheriff’s office immediately.

— Deputies were dispatched at 9:04 p.m. Jan. 23 to state Route 170, Middleton Township, for a disturbance, but were advised there was only arguing and nothing going on, then five minutes later were called back. The woman reported a relative broke her windshield, saying he threw something that caused the break, but she did not know what it was. Deputies did not find anything that appeared to have been thrown. A misdemeanor summons for criminal mischief was issued for the relative to appear in Columbiana County Municipal Court on Feb. 7, which is Friday.

Salem

— Officers responded to the 600 block of East Sixth Street at 12:33 p.m. Tuesday to assist the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office. Officers stood by while they completed their investigation.

— Officers responded to the 1200 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 11:28 a.m. Tuesday at the request of the parks department for an illegally parked vehicle. Officers located the vehicle in question, finding it to be legally parked.

— Officers responded to the 600 block of North Howard Avenue at 10:57 a.m. Tuesday for a report of criminal trespassing. The caller advised that the person in question had been previously trespassed from the property and was observed through his ring doorbell. Officers spoke with a family member at the residence and were able to view the footage, and located the man, Allen Vancooney, 29, Salem, later in the day taking him into custody charged with criminal trespass.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of West Wilson Street at 10:53 a.m. Tuesday for a report of harassment. The caller advised an unknown woman has been stopping at the residence wanting mail from someone who doesn’t reside there. Officers advised the caller to call if the woman returns.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of Riley Avenue at 8:56 a.m. Tuesday for a reported unruly juvenile. The caller advised that her daughter did not want to go to school, and after speaking to the juvenile she walked into the school.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of Penn Avenue at 8:36 a.m. Tuesday for a reported person to be removed. Officers located the people in question advising them of the complaint and that they could not live in the lobby area of the building. Both were trespassed from the property.

— Officers checked several locations in the north part of the city for a water line break at 6:29 a.m. Tuesday. Officers were unable to locate anything, and the water department was made aware of the situation and also responded to the area.

— Officers responded to the area of North Howard Avenue and West Ninth Street at 7:25 p.m. Monday for a parking complaint. Officers located the vehicle and the owner moved it.

— Officers responded to the 800 block of Franklin Avenue at 6:29 p.m. Monday for a wellness check. Officers spoke with the person in question, and they were then transported to the hospital for further medical evaluation.

— Officers responded to the 900 block of East State Street at 5:11 p.m. Monday for a reported drive off. The caller advised that an unknown person had pumped $20.01 in gas and then fled the area without rendering payment.

— Officers responded to the800 block of Franklin Avenue at 3:33 p.m. Monday to check for a package that was reportedly taken front the front porch of a residence. Officers located the residence and found the package on the front porch.

— The school resource officer was advised by administrators of an issue on one of the buses with a student and something he said at 3:45 p.m. Monday. An officer responded to the 100 block of East Sixth Street to speak with the student and his mother advising them both of the issue, what was said, and that school administration advised the student was not allowed to come to school the next day. Administrators wanted to review the tapes before deciding how to move forward with the issue.

— Officers responded to the 900 block of East Third Street at 3:10 p.m. Monday for a reported dispute. The caller advised that a person had given her money and now wanted to be repaid. Officers advised her the matter was civil and contacted the other party advising them of the same.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of East Euclid Street at 3:11 p.m. Monday for a wellness check. Officers attempted to check on the person in question but were unable to make contact.

— Officers responded to the 800 block of Franklin Avenue at 2:11 p.m. Monday for a wellness check on a juvenile. Officers spoke with a family member who advised that the person in question was still at school. Officers spoke with child protective services, and they were aware of the issue.

— Officers responded to the 600 block of Cherry Street at 1:37 p.m. for a report of a resident receiving a bill for using the Ohio Turnpike on Jan. 28, when they had not done so and the vehicle bearing the tag in question had not left the property since purchasing it. The photo of the license plate on the invoice was indiscernible but the invoice claimed that it matches the caller. The photo shows the plate mounted on the rear of the vehicle between the taillight while caller’s tag is mount in the back window of the vehicle. Officers provided the caller with a report number and advised him to contact the Ohio Turnpike about the issue.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of Franklin Avenue at 11:59 a.m. Monday for a reported speak with officer complaint. The caller advised that someone from a local business had yelled at him and called him names after he threw a piece of glass over their fence. Officers advised the man that he should not be throwing any items over fences at people and that he could be arrested for doing so. Officers then spoke with people at the business who confirmed that they had yelled at the man after he threw a beer bottle over the fence that had almost struck one of the employees. Officers advised them of the options for dealing with the situation if it continued.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of East Second Street at 11:30 a.m. Monday for a reported person to be removed. The caller advised that two people were standing outside the store yelling at customers walking in and out of the store. Officers spoke with the people who advised they were not bothering anyone and were just doing a street sermon. The caller advised they wanted them trespassed from the property and officers had them fill out the trespass notice. Officers warned the people of the notice, and they left the area.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 11:05 a.m. Monday for a report of criminal damaging. The caller advised that the Norfolk Southern substation in the 800 block of South Ellsworth Avenue was broken into, and wires were pulled out of equipment and doors broken into. Norfolk Southern employees requested a report be on file and an extra watch at the sub-station.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of East State Street at 9:03 a.m. Monday for a report of unwanted and threatening calls at her place of employment in the 1700 block of East State Street. The caller was provided with options for dealing with the situation.

— Officers responded to the 1800 block of Shady Lane at 7:44 a.m. Monday for a wellness check. Officers spoke with the person in question who advised they were fine.
