Sheriff’s Office

— A deputy was dispatched at 7:57 p.m. Tuesday to Hartley Road, Knox Township, for a runaway juvenile report. The juvenile was entered into the law enforcement data base as missing.

— A deputy responded to the Unity Dollar General on state Route 14, Unity Township, for an alarm reported at 1:25 a.m. Tuesday. The building was checked from the exterior and found to be secure from ground level. There were two vehicles in the lot that appeared to have been there for some time.

Salem

— Officers on patrol in the 100 block of West State Street at 9:54 p.m. Friday observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation and officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. Officers spoke with the driver, requesting K-9 Chaz respond, who alerted to the presence of narcotic odor coming from the vehicle during the stop. Officers located contraband in the vehicle and on the passenger of the vehicle. Charges are pending investigation.

— Officers responded to the 800 block of Franklin Avenue at 8:58 p.m. Friday to speak with a person about an incident. Officers collected information and advised the caller that the matter would be passed along to a detective.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of Woodland Avenue at 7:43 p.m. Friday for a reported juvenile complaint. The caller advised that there was a juvenile female at her residence who didn’t want to go home. Officers were familiar with the juvenile as a frequent runaway. Officers took the juvenile home to her residence and released her to her mother.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 7:24 p.m. Friday to assist the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force. A man was taken into custody and $120 cash and a Ruger SR 9 were recovered from the suspect and will be held in the gun locker for safekeeping.

— Officers responded to the 300 block of New Garden Avenue at 6:57 p.m. Friday for a wellness check. Officers were unable to contact anyone at the residence.

— Officers responded to Georgetown Road at 6:54 p.m. Friday to shut down the roadway and assist Perry township officers for a motor vehicle accident. Officers closed the roadway until first responders cleared the call.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of West Fourth Street at 3:55 p.m. Friday for a report of identity theft. The caller advised that someone unknown to them had opened two bank accounts in his name. Officers advised the caller of the options for dealing with the situation.

— Officers responded to the 600 block of Franklin Avenue at 8 a.m. Friday to deliver a message for the Columbiana Police Department.

— Officers responded to the 300 block of Newgarden Avenue at 1:47 a.m. Tuesday for a reported domestic in progress. Officers were advised of drug activity by one of the parties involved and permission was given to seize the activity.

— Officers responded to the 300 block of Newgarden Avenue at 11:08 p.m. Monday for a reported domestic in progress. The caller advised that they heard yelling and banging in the apartment next to theirs. Officers spoke with the involved parties separately and one party, Robert Cochran Jr., 36, Salem, advised that nothing physical occurred and that the banging in the apartment was the other slamming cupboards, while the other party requested medical attention. The fire department and EMT responded to the scene and transported them to the Salem Regional Medical Center. Cochran gathered clothes for his son and had a relative come to pick up his son, and officers took them into custody and transported them to the police department for processing prior to transport to the Columbiana County Jail.

— Officers responded to the 900 block of Prospect Street at 7:15 p.m. Monday for a reported domestic dispute. The caller advised her ex-husband was over watching their kids and when she got home, he started yelling at her and allegedly snapped her laptop in half and is constantly texting and calling her. Officers took photos of the computer and advised her of her options and had her inform the person to stop contacting her unless it was involving their kids. The caller then wanted to trespass the ex from the residence and once back at police department officers attempted to contact him via public service due to him living outside the jurisdiction to advise him of the trespass notice, but no contact was made.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of Vine Avenue at 5:25 p.m. Monday for a report of suspicious activity. The caller advised that while they were outside a man walked up to the residence and took a picture of them and they wanted law enforcement to be away of the incident. Officers advised an extra patrol would be in the area of the residence.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department regarding telecommunications harassment at 1:40 p.m. Monday. The caller advised that their ex has been contacting him even after being told to stop doing so. Officers contacted the other party and advised them of the complaint.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 11:51 a.m. Monday regarding a report of littering at South Ellsworth Avenue near the train tracks. The woman advised that she had seen multiple empty aluminum cans off the roadway near the tracks. The woman was advised that officers will keep watch in the area for people committing the act.

–Officers responded to the 300 block of West Second Street at 11:17 a.m. Monday for a report of criminal damage to a motor vehicle. The caller advised that she was driving her adult son home from the doctors when a verbal altercation started over calling the pharmacy to pick up his medication, and the son got angry and started kicking the inside of the vehicle causing damage to the middle console and breaking the windshield. Officers spoke with the son who did admit to kicking the middle console and damaging the windshield and advised that he had only done so to keep his mother from yelling at him.

— Officers responded to the 1800 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 10:03 a.m. Monday to block westbound traffic while Perry Township handled a multi-vehicle crash on the bypass east of Depot Road. Officers remained until dispatch was notified the roadway could be re-opened.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of East Eighth Street at 9:47 a.m. Monday for a report of phone harassment. The caller who advised her niece was texting her threatening messages about moving items in her house while she was in a medical care facility. The caller wanted her niece to stop texting her and leave her alone and officers contacted the niece advising her of the same. The niece advised that she wouldn’t contact her again.

— Officers responded to the 600 block of Prospect Street at 3:09 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a person on the property who had previously been trespassed. Officers spoke with the person in question who advised that he was invited into the residence and showed officers messages between them and the other person. Officers advised them not to return and he left the area.

— Officers responded to the 1600 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 12:14 a.m. Wednesday for a warrant check. Officers did not locate them.

— Officers responded to a business in the 2300 block of West State Street at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday for a reported person with a knife. Officers spoke with employees who advised nothing was going on and dispatch advised the incident was occurring in another jurisdiction.

— Officers responded to a business in the 1800 block of East State Street at 5:09 p.m. Tuesday for a wellness check on a person sleeping in the restaurant with a juvenile trying to wake him up. Officers spoke with the person who advised everything was fine, and when asked if he drove to the location, he advised that the juvenile’s mother dropped them off. Officers requested the person call the mother and have her respond to take them home, which she did.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of Penn Avenue at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday for reported hit and skip. The caller advised a southbound vehicle on Penn Avenue side-swiped a parked vehicle. Officers located the southbound vehicle and driver, documenting minimal damage to the vehicle with photos. Further investigation showed the parked vehicle left prior to officers’ arrival. Officers will obtain video footage at a later time and an investigation is pending.

— The school resource officers were advised by administrators at Southeast Elementary of a possible issue with a student’s residence. The Perry Township Police Department was contacted due to the residence being in their jurisdiction and completed a wellness check, advising everything appeared to be okay at the residence at that time.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of Prospect Street at 1:59 p.m. Tuesday for a report of solicitors. Officers advised them to move along.

— Officers responded to the 1900 block of Merle Road at 12:50 p.m. Tuesday for a reported suspicious person. The caller advised a man came to his door claiming to be a bail bonds agent looking for a woman with a warrant, and when the caller advised they weren’t present and asked them to leave, they refused. Officers discovered the man was in fact a bail bonds agent and advised officers he was leaving the area.

— Officers responded to a person at the police department at 11:42 a.m. Tuesday for a report of a stolen license plate. After speaking with the man it was discovered the plate involved was not stolen and that there was a misunderstanding while selling the vehicle the plate was registered to. The man was advised the matter was civil and provided a report number.

— Officers responded to the 1100 block of Newgarden Avenue at 11:47 a.m. Tuesday for a reported 911 hang-up call. Officers attempted contact at the residence but observed through the windows that the residence was empty and nobody was around.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 10:07 a.m. Tuesday regarding a protection order violation. Information was obtained about the incident and officers advised they will be contacting the prosecutor’s office.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of Ohio Avenue at 10 a.m. Tuesday for a wellness check. The caller advised the woman involved was having a possible mental health crisis, and officers spoke with the woman who advised that she is fine and not in need of any assistance. Officers provided the woman with additional resources of peer support.

— Officers spoke with a person at the police department at 9:04 a.m. Tuesday who advised that they received a text message from her husband’s stepmother about property that was sent via the mail to her residence, and that she has a no contact order against her husband. The caller advised that she messaged her husband’s stepmother and told her that the property was sent back and not to contact her again and she texted back that she hadn’t texted her and it was the husband using her phone. Officers attempted to contact the stepmother and husband but were unable and voice messages were left for both to contact the Salem Police Department.
