Salem
— The school resource officer was advised by school administrators of a social media issue at 2:18 p.m. Monday. All information was gathered and given to the proper agency to handle.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of Roosevelt Avenue at 11:30 a.m. Monday to assist another agency. Officers were unable to make contact at the residence.
— Officers responded to the area of Jefferson Avenue and Merle Road at 9:38 a.m. Monday for a report of low hanging wires over the roadway. Officers observed the wires which were not hanging low.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of Vine Avenue at 3:27 a.m. Monday for a reported suspicious person. The person in question was located and advised they were attempting to locate the residence of a friend. They were transported to the police department to stay warm in the lobby until he could contact the friend in the morning.
— Officers responded to the 1700 block of Fairview Court at 1:46 a.m. Monday for a reported domestic disturbance. The caller advised that she heard a man yelling from her neighbor’s home. Officers spoke with both the man and woman of the household who advised that they were arguing loudly and would calm down as the man would be leaving for work soon.
— Officers responded to the 1300 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 12:48 a.m. Monday for a suspicious person report. The caller advised her neighbor believed they saw someone outside her residence. Officers checked around the home and the immediate area but nobody nor anything disturbed was located.
— Officers responded to the 1200 block of Cleveland Street at 12:08 a.m. Monday for a report of a juvenile female that possibly took more than the recommended dose of medication. The juvenile was transported by EMT.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of North Ellsworth Avenue at 11:55 p.m. Sunday for a report of an unknown man looking in the windows. Officers located the person in question who advised he was attempting to locate someone that used to live at the residence and didn’t know they moved, and the man was advised not to go back to the residence.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of West 13th Street at 10:11 p.m. Sunday for a reported barking dog. Officers spoke with the owner and resolved the issue.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of Ohio Avenue at 7:12 p.m. Sunday for a reported person to be removed. The person in question, Seaton Ruffner, 41, Negley, was identified and found to have a no-contact order for the residence and caller and transported directly to the Columbiana County Jail.
— Officers responded to the 600 block of East Ninth Street at 5:19 p.m. Sunday for a reported breaking and entering of an unoccupied structure. Officers spoke with the property owners who are currently renovating the property and advised that it had likely occurred within the last week but couldn’t specify when due to not being there for a week. Officers advised the owners they would look into the matter and keep an extra watch in the area.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of East Second Street at 3:23 p.m. Sunday for a report of an excessive amount of snow in the roadway. Nothing was obstructing normal vehicle travel in the roadway.
— Officers responded to the 700 block of East Fifth Street at 12:54 p.m. Sunday for a reported dog at large. Officers spoke with a resident of the house who advised that his sister owned the dog but was not home, and that the dog had gotten out. Officers advised him that because he had no prior reports of the dog being loose, he would receive a warning.
— Officers responded to the 800 block of Trimble Street at 12:11 p.m. Sunday for a reported suspicious object. Officers located the object, finding it to be a beach ball.
— Officers responded to the 1200 block of East Pershing Street at 10:49 a.m. Sunday for a reported juvenile issue. The caller advised that the juvenile they have custody of became upset after their cell phone was taken and wanted officers to speak with them. Officers spoke with the juvenile who calmed down.
Leetonia
— Douglas L. Miller Jr., no address listed, was cited at 9:17 p.m. Jan. 11 near state Route 344 and State Street for expired registration. He also was given verbal warnings for additional violations of improper left turn, left of center and illegal passing at the railroad tracks.
— Police answered a medical assist call at 10:47 a.m. Jan. 8 to a Washington Street home, where the occupant refused medical treatment.
Perry Township
— Officers responded to the area of Brittany Lane at 10:33 p.m. Saturday to speak with three people walking into the road. Contact was made with three juveniles with sleds doing nothing illegal.
— Officers responded to Dollar General at 9:17 p.m. Saturday for a report of two women and a man attempting to shoplift. The vehicle in question had left prior to officers’ arrival and the man frequents the business and has become aggressive in the past. The business advised that they would like them trespassed if they return.
— Officers responded to the 1900 block of Cider Mill Road at 6:55 p.m. Saturday for a wellness check on an elderly woman with dementia. The fire department and EMT responded and transported them to the Alliance hospital for evaluation.
— Officers responded to the area of the U.S. Route 62 bypass at 5:10 p.m. Thursday for a report of a vehicle pulled off the side of the roadway that matched the description of a missing elderly adult out of Pennsylvania. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.
— Officers responded to the 1100 block of Prospect Street at 11:01 a.m. Thursday for a wellness check on a 1-year-old child whose parents refuse to get jobs. Officers were unable to contact anyone at the apartment.
— Officers responded to the 1700 block of West State Street at 7 p.m. Jan. 8 for a reported argument between brothers. Officers spoke with one of the brothers who advised that he had gotten into a verbal argument with his brother over moving a package around that had been delivered to the wrong address and he had a panic attack and couldn’t calm down. Officers spoke with all parties who advised that everyone had calmed down.
— Officers responded to the Salem Golf Club at 11:36 a.m. Jan. 8 for a report of possible property damage. The caller advised that someone had driven up to the 11th hole getting their vehicle stuck in the snow, and due to the snow, it was unknown if there was any property damage. Video surveillance showed three vehicles also driving on the golf course to free the vehicle. Further investigation found the parties involved were known by the golf club which will handle the incident.
— Officers responded to the 1900 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 8:18 a.m. Jan. 7 for a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in their driveway against their garage door. Officers spoke with the owner who advised that she had left the vehicle parked there due to being unable to locate the driveway to her residence due to the snow. Officers advised her that she was backed up against the garage door and that she had driven through a yard. The owner advised they would go retrieve the vehicle and officers advised the caller to contact the department once the vehicle was removed to advise if there was any damage to the garage door.
— Officers responded to the area of state Route 9 at 5:59 a.m. Jan. 7 for a possible waterline break. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate them.
— Tracy Dedominic, 63, Youngstown, was cited for failure to control after her vehicle turned onto the train tracks on South Lincoln Avenue and became stuck.
— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 3:55 p.m. Jan. 6 for a report of fraud. The man advised that three checks had been written from his bank account using old checks that he did not write totaling $850 in value. The caller advised that the checks were made out to a John Turney and Amber Hipkins and that he did not know anyone by either name and provided officers with copies of the fraudulent checks and the last check he personally wrote. The man did not remember losing any checkbooks but had recently moved from Niles and may have lost it in the process of moving.
Sheriff’s Office
— A welfare check was requested at 6:50 a.m. Tuesday at a Cameron Road, Madison Township property after a caller from Maine said he had not spoken to a relative at the address for a few days. A deputy made contact with the relative, who said he was fine, but his phone was taken so he had to get a new one and did not have anyone’s phone numbers to call them. The caller’s phone number was provided to the relative so he could call him.
— A deputy was dispatched at 8:05 p.m. Saturday to Plymouth Street, Hanoverton for a medical call. Hanover Township EMS transported the person to Salem Regional Medical Center in Salem.
— Trespassing was reported at 7:03 p.m. Saturday on Bayard Road, Knox Township.
