St. Clair Township

— A driver traveling north on state Route 170 at 52 mph in a 40-mph zone on Dec. 26 was given a verbal warning following a traffic stop for speed.

— An officer spoke with a volunteer firefighter at the station on Dec. 26 to explain that even when toned out and using lights and sirens he still had responsibilities for the safety of others while responding to calls.

— A driver was given a lecture on safety and a verbal warning for speed following a Dec. 26 traffic stop on East Liverpool Road for speed.

— A driver received a verbal warning following a Dec. 27 traffic stop on Huston Road for a defective exhaust.

— A driver was given a verbal warning for improper turn following a Dec. 27 traffic stop on state Route 170.

— Eric Hoppel, age and address not provided, was issued a citation for traveling left of center following a Dec. 27 traffic stop on Hoppel Drive.

— A driver received a warning for speed following a Dec. 27 traffic stop on state Route 170.

— An officer stopped on state Route 170 on Dec. 27 to assist a driver who was stopped with his hazard lights on due to running out of gas.

— A driver was issued a warning for speed following a Dec. 28 traffic stop on McCoy Avenue.

— A driver was issued a warning for forgetting to turn his headlights on following a Dec. 28 traffic stop on St. Clair Avenue.

— Officers found nothing out of the ordinary after responding to Milbourne Avenue on Dec. 28 for a complaint of suspicious noises.

— An officer responded to a traffic stop on state Route 267 on Dec. 28 to assist in a vehicle search.

— An officer checked a vehicle parked in the Dollar General parking lot after hours. The vehicle was secure with no one around it. The officer checked the building and found it to be secure as well.

Leetonia

— A tavern in the 200 block of Front Street reported at 9:03 p.m. Saturday that a female on the village’s trespassing sheet for the establishment had been there earlier in the day, causing a disturbance.

— A resident in the 100 block of Chestnut Street reported shortly before noon Monday that her neighbor’s two smaller dogs were also running at large and breaching her yard when she would take her Great Dane out on a leash. She was concerned due to the size difference. An officer advised her to call the next time that they were running loose in her yard, and the neighbor could be cited for dogs at large if they weren’t leashed or tethered.

— Police responded to a one-vehicle non-injury crash at Leetonia High School near the front entrance around 4:41 p.m. Friday. The driver, Kayla Sexton, had slid due to the ice and snow, striking the curb on school property.

— An officer was notified at 4:02 p.m. Friday of a non-injury crash at the fire station. Lisa Unkefer advised one of the firemen, James Flory, had backed into her, striking the rear passenger side of her vehicle. No damage was noted to Flory’s vehicle, but there is damage of Unkefer’s. Pictures were taken, but there was no citation due to it being private property.

Highway Patrol

— Gregory Moore, of Woodall Drive in Hanoverton, was cited at 8:18 p.m. Dec. 29 in West Township after he was eastbound on state Route 172 and struck a tree in the middle of the road.

— Kaden Smith, of Depot Road in Lisbon, was cited at 7:30 a.m. Jan. 3 in Salem Township for failure to control after he was turning onto TR765, lost control of his vehicle, went off the right side of the road, striking a ditch and then a stream.

— John Fitch, of North Ellsworth Avenue in Salem, was cited at 10:17 a.m. Jan. 2 for failure to control after he was northbound on state Route 9, drove off the right side of the road, struck an embankment before overturning on its side.

— Victoria Mayer, of state Route 164 in Lisbon, was cited at 6:40 a.m. Jan. 2 in Wayne Township for failure to control after losing control while eastbound on state Route 164, going off the right side of the road and striking an embankment, overturning and then striking a guardrail.

— Cody Reckner, of West Wilson Street in Salem, was cited at 3:30 a.m. Dec. 23 in Madison Township for wanton and willful disregard after he overturned his vehicle while traveling westbound on U.S. Route 30 and fled the scene on foot.

— A citation may be pending for Frank Coniglio Jr., of Kensington. He crashed his vehicle at 10:20 a.m. Dec. 28 in West Township after driving off the right side of U.S. Route 30, striking a ditch and then landing in a swamp.

— Brandon Wilson, of Canton, was cited at 7:39 a.m. Dec. 26 in Knox Township for failure to control after overturning his vehicle along Georgetown Road.

— Lacie Chludzinski, of Grant Street in Rogers, was cited at 1:15 a.m. Dec. 21 in Elkrun Township for failure to control. She was southbound on Lusk Lock Road when she allegedly ran a stop sign before going over the center line, driving off the right side of Pine Hollow Road, striking a pole and a ditch.

— Teya Metzgar, of Walnut Grove in New Waterford, was cited at 3:35 p.m. Dec. 27 in Unity Township after allegedly failing to yield at a stop sign and striking Allen Sodergren, of Cherry Valley Road in Leetonia, before continuing off the left side of TR3254 and striking a guide wire.

Salem

— The school resource officer was advised by high school and Southeast Elementary administration that students had advised they had no heat, water or food at their house. The officer requested an officer and a zoning officer go to the residence and check what was reported. Officers were unable to contact anyone at the residence but will continue to investigate the issue.

— Officers responded to the 700 block of Superior Avenue at 12:33 p.m. Monday for a reported animal complaint. The caller advised that she thought she heard a dog whimpering. Officers stood stationary in the area but were unable to locate the source of the complaint.

— Officers responded to the 800 block of Aetna Street at 8:13 a.m. Monday for a reported parking complaint. Officers located the vehicle, which was illegally parked, and advised the owner of the complaint. He advised he would move the vehicle.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of East Sixth Street at 7:18 p.m. Sunday for a reported unruly juvenile. The caller advised his 16-year-old stepson had left the house despite being told not to. When officers arrived, the juvenile had returned to the residence but during the course of the investigation officers learned the incident had gotten physical between the two. The caller advised that he was trying to restrain the juvenile from leaving the residence and caused multiple scratches and red marks to their neck. The juvenile advised the caller had grabbed him by the throat and pinned him up against a wall and punched and kicked him at some point during the incident. The fire department and EMT responded to the scene but a refusal for treatment was signed by the juvenile’s mother. The caller, Louis Huyghe II, 45, Salem, was taken into custody, charged with domestic violence, and transported to the police department for processing prior to transportation to the Columbiana County Jail.

— Officers responded to the 1700 block of Fairview Court at 6:33 p.m. Sunday to speak with the caller about a person in their backyard. Officers checked the backyard and did not locate anybody, and the caller requested an extra watch in the area.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of North Howard Avenue at 12:33 p.m. Sunday for a reported person to be removed. The caller advised that a man who police removed from the residence the night prior had returned and was refusing to leave. When officers arrived, the caller advised that she just wanted the man to be formally trespassed and did not want to pursue any charges, and the man was served with a trespass notice and left the residence.

— Officers responded to the 600 block of West Wilson Street at 11:41 p.m. Saturday for a reported theft. The caller advised his now ex-girlfriend came to their house to get her belongings and took $450, the television, two iPads, and the two cats. Officers advised the situation would be a civil matter due to them living together and he would have to talk to an attorney about the items that she took.

— Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 7:27 p.m. Saturday for a reported reckless operator. Officers were initially unable to locate the vehicle and a few minutes later the caller advised it turned into the Walmart parking lot. The vehicle was parked, and the driver was getting out of the vehicle when officers arrived and they advised the someone was behind him with bright lights, and he was unable to see. Officers observed no signs of impairment.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 1:25 p.m. Saturday for a report of harassment. The caller advised her ex-boyfriend threatened her through text messages about leaving him and the caller requested an officer for a stand-by to get her belongings. Officers stood by while she gathered her belongings and prior to leaving the ex-boyfriend arrived and started yelling. Officers advised the man to go back in the residence and the caller went back to the police department to fill out paperwork. The ex-boyfriend arrived at the police department to speak with the caller who advised she did not want to speak with him. Officers advised the man as such and advised him to leave.

— Officers responded to the 1000 block of East State Street at 9:07 a.m. Saturday for a wellness check. The caller advised that a man appeared to be sleeping while in the driver’s seat of a vehicle that was not fully in the parking lot. The vehicle left prior to officers’ arrival.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of South Broadway Avenue at 8:36 Saturday for a report of criminal damaging to a motor vehicle. Officers obtained pictures and advised a report would be made.

— Officers responded to the 1700 block of Fairview Court at 12 a.m. Saturday for a report of burglary. The caller advised that when they were gone someone entered the residence. Officers checked the residence and advised the caller to contact them if they noticed anything.

— Officers responded to the 1300 block of Fairview Avenue at 9:11 p.m. Friday for a reported assault on the juvenile caller. Officers spoke with the juvenile and his caretaker, and the juvenile advised that he was never assaulted nor sustained any injury but called because he no longer wanted to be at the residence. He was advised not to make false police reports.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of West Fifth Street at 8:02 p.m. Friday for a reported reckless operator. Officers checked the area but did not locate them.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of Penn Avenue at 7:24 p.m. Friday for a report of a woman loitering. Officers spoke with a woman inside the post office who advised she was allowed to be there.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 5:03 p.m. Friday to assist the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force with an alleged sex offense. The man in question was placed into custody and transported to the Columbiana County Jail.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of Benton Road at 2:19 p.m. Friday for a reported traffic light malfunction. Officers found there to be a malfunction, and the city electrician responded and corrected the issue.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 12:21 p.m. Friday for a wellness check. The family advised that the woman in question was in the hospital the night before and they were now unable to contact them. Officers spoke with a resident and were advised that the woman had left earlier in the day, and after officers advised the family of the same, they requested a BOLO be put out for other law enforcement agencies to check on the woman if located.

— Officers took a report of illegal dumping in the 100 block of South Broadway Avenue at 11:28 a.m. Friday. The caller, who is a local business owner, reported an unknown person dumped a couch on their business’ property. Officers are awaiting security footage to possibly identify the person in question and advised the caller that an extra patrol would be added in the area of the business throughout the day.

— Officers responded to the 700 block of East Fifth Street at 7:56 a.m. Friday for a reported domestic dispute. The caller advised her boyfriend was not letting her leave the residence. At some point during the phone call to dispatch the caller advised she did not want officers to come after all. When officers arrived, the caller advised that there were no issues, and she was not being prevented from leaving and collected her belongings and left shortly after.

— Officers responded to the 600 block of South Madison Avenue at 7:56 a.m. Friday for a reported hit and skip. The caller advised that an unknown vehicle went off the roadway and side-swiped their fence causing minor paint transfer before continuing to cross South Madison Avenue and strike a no parking sign. A part of the vehicle’s front driver’s side bumper was located near the sign.
