Sheriff’s Office

— Deputies were dispatched at 10:35 p.m. Dec. 28 to Wood Aly, Washingtonville, for a domestic violence report, with assistance from Goshen Township Police District from Mahoning County. Brandon Shaffer, 28, Wood Aly, Washingtonville, was taken into custody for domestic violence and taken to the county jail. He already appeared in Columbiana County Municipal Court for arraignment on the domestic violence charge for allegedly head butting a woman and pushing her around on Dec. 28. He’s facing a pretrial on Jan. 9.

— A man on Taylor Road, Middleton Township, called at 8:48 p.m. Dec. 28 to request a report on file that his grandson in Liverpool Township is calling and harassing him after he has been told multiple times to stop.

— A man on Salem Grange Road, Salem Township reported a breaking and entering report at 5:29 p.m. Dec. 28 at his detached garage on his property.

— A man on Lisbon Road, Salem Township reported at 5:23 p.m. Dec. 28 that his neighbor has been shooting for over an hour and it sounds like a shotgun.

— A woman on Lynchburg Road, West Township reported at 4:44 p.m. Dec. 28 that her relative is telling her she needs to move out of the residence and won’t let her take her belongings. She was advised to contact an attorney.

— A woman on Edward Circle, Fairfield Township reported at 9:39 p.m. Dec. 27 that a person from the state of Oklahoma is harassing her on social media.

Salem

— Officers responded to the 500 block of East Pershing Street at 10:29 p.m. Friday for a reported juvenile problem. The caller advised that two juveniles ran away, and officers located them on East Sixth Street, and they were returned to their guardians.

— Officers responded to the 2400 block of Lexington Avenue at 7:15 p.m. Friday for a standby call. Officers remained on scene while the caller gathered some of their personal belongings from her home as she has had recent issues with her mothers who also resides at the residence. The caller gathered her items and was able to leave the residence with little issue. Both parties were advised that the caller does still reside at the residence until they are either evicted or voluntarily moves out.

— Officers responded to the 2500 block of Bentley Drive at 7:07 p.m. Friday to speak with the caller regarding two tenants engaging in sexual conduct. According to the caller an internal investigation was started and both adult parties consented to the contact, after a staff member caught them together in a room. The caller wanted the incident documented if any further issues occurred.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 6:08 p.m. Friday to assist the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force. Officers stood by until no longer needed and $180 cash was seized as evidence.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of East Fourth Street at 5 p.m. Friday for a reported dispute. The person in question advised that it was only verbal in nature and that he lived at the residence and the caller advised the same and asked how they could have the person removed. Officers advised that she would have to have the person evicted.

— Officers responded to the 1500 block of Southeast Boulevard at 4:28 p.m. Friday for a medical call. Officers stood by and assisted until no longer needed.

— Officers responded to the 300 block of North Lundy Avenue at 2:41 p.m. Friday for a reported theft. The caller advised that sometime during the night the toolbox had been stolen from his truck, and that it had to have been at least two people since the toolbox was very heavy and filled with mechanical tools. He was able to provide officers with a list of tools that were inside the box and officers advised a report would be made.

— Joseph Price Jr., 84, Salem, was cited for failure to yield after his vehicle on East State Street pulled out of a private drive causing it to be struck by a vehicle driven east by Franklin Zacharian at 7:50 a.m. Friday. No injuries were reported.

— Officers responded to the 600 block of East Sixth Street at 1:20 a.m. Tuesday for a reported domestic in progress. Contact was made with both parties who are in a dating relationship and have children together. It was reported that their 3-year-old son had a bathroom related accident, and the female half was disciplining him, however this made the male half upset and an argument between the two ensued. The female half, Kassie Haines, 27, Salem, was reported to have picked up a multiple tier shelf and threw it at the man causing a red mark to his right cheek bone. Haines complained of a broken right little toe but was unable to advise how the injury occurred. The fire department and EMT responded, and Haines signed a refusal for treatment, and she was placed into custody for domestic violence and transported to the police department for processing and was later transported to the Columbiana County Jail.

— Officers responded to the 600 block of Cedar Street at 10:25 p.m. Monday for a report of suspicious activity. The caller advised that he had heard a gas cap close on a vehicle and smelled gas. Officers checked the area but did not locate anyone.

— Officers responded to the 1600 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 7:07 p.m. Monday for a wellness check on a person walking and making suicidal comments to a friend. Officers checked the area and located the person in question and after speaking with him first responders and EMT were called to the scene, and the person was voluntarily transported for further treatment.

— Officers responded to the area of South Ellsworth Avenue near the railroad tracks at 6:56 p.m. Monday for a reported reckless operator. Officers were not able to catch up to the driver before they had left the city.

— Officers responded to the 1600 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 6:42 p.m. Monday for a reported suspicious person. The caller advised that two men tried talking to her when she came out of the store asking her if she smoked. Officers spoke with the people, and they were playing a coin game inside of the store but not bothering anyone and left when they ran out of coins.

— Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 4:35 p.m. Monday for a reported hit and skip on private property. The caller advised that when they exited a local grocery store the front bumper of their vehicle was found to be ripped off by another vehicle. Officers obtained photos of the damage and contacted the business and will be receiving video footage at a later time.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of West Fifth Street at 2:34 p.m. Monday for a report of accidental damage. Officers were advised that a tree limb from the neighbor’s tree fell onto the caller’s vehicle and caused significant damage to the windshield of the vehicle. Officers attempted contact at the neighbor’s house, but nobody was home, and advised the caller they will attempt contact at a later time.

— Officers responded to the area of East Pershing Street and Penn Avenue at 11:46 p.m. Wednesday for a reported suspicious person. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate them.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of Franklin Avenue at 2:46 p.m. Wednesday for a reported runaway juvenile. Officers located the juvenile in the 400 block of South Lundy Avenue and transported them back to their residence.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of Vine Avenue at 1:28 p.m. Wednesday for a reported medical call. Officers spoke with the person in question who did make statements of self-harm and was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital for an evaluation.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of Columbia Street at 10:26 a.m. Wednesday for a reported hit and skip. A legally parked and unoccupied vehicle was struck by an unknown vehicle before fleeing the scene

— Officers responded to the 2400 block of East State Street at 10:05 a.m. Wednesday for a report of criminal damaging. The caller advised that he had been in a verbal altercation prior to parking his vehicle and entering a store and was advised by an employee that someone had hit his vehicle. Officers watched video of the incident and viewed a vehicle pull up to the caller’s vehicle and park beside it before striking the driver’s side mirror and driving off. The business manager advised that he would look into making a copy of the video for officers and the caller advised that he did not want to pursue charges at that time.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of Aetna Street at 7:09 a.m. Wednesday for a report of menacing. Officers spoke with the person involved and advised them of their options for dealing with the situation.

— Officers responded to the area of Centennial Park at 12:29 a.m. Wednesday for a report of possible shots fired. Officers checked the area for several minutes and all was quiet.

— Officers responded to the 300 block of East Third Street at 10:49 p.m. Tuesday for a reported intoxicated person. Dispatch advised a woman was intoxicated and had struck her husband. The caller advised that her mother was extremely intoxicated and becomes violent when she drinks. Contact was made with the woman who was heavily intoxicated and due to her violent and threatening behavior she was warned for disorderly conduct and advised to go to bed for the night and leave the rest of the family alone. While officers were still on scene the woman, Angela Uy, 43, Salem, threatened to physically harm her husband and daughter in front of officers and officers learned that she had threatened to harm her husband with a knife prior to their arrival. Uy was subsequently placed into custody for domestic violence and transported directly to the Columbiana County Jail due to her irate behavior toward officers.

— Officers responded to the 800 block of Trimble Street at 10:27 p.m. Tuesday for an unknown issue. Officers spoke with the woman who advised that she thought she was overdosing on a narcotic due to having hallucinations. The fire department and EMT responded, and the person was transported by EMT.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of Franklin Avenue at 8:33 p.m. Tuesday for a follow-up investigation. Officers were unable to contact anyone at the residence.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of East Sixth Street at 8:12 p.m. Tuesday for a reported fight. Upon arrival officers found that the issue was actually a fire and that a propane tank was on fire at the residence and the fire department responded to put the fire out.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of West Pershing Street at 7:41 p.m. Wednesday for a reported suspicious person. The caller advised that two juveniles were loitering around a junk yard. Officers located the juveniles walking in the area advising them of the complaint, and they advised they were just walking to the store.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of Ohio Avenue at 7:16 p.m. Wednesday for a reported burglary report. The caller advised that two people kicked their front storm door and ran off. Damage was caused and photographs were taken, and the matter is under investigation.

— Officers responded to the area of South Cunningham Road and East State Street at 4:21 p.m. Wednesday for a reported reckless operator. The vehicle was observed parking at a business and officers spoke with the driver, advising them of the complaint, and he advised that he was neither driving recklessly nor impaired and was just riding close to the curb.

— Officers responded to the 1900 block of East State Street at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday to assist a Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office deputy by watching a prisoner so he could retrieve property out of his patrol vehicle.

— Ronald Miller, 73, Salem, was cited for failure to yield after his northbound vehicle on Georgetown Road failed to stop at a stop sign and struck a vehicle driven by Joseph Jarret, 43, Sebring, at 6:04 a.m. Wednesday.
